CARDRUNNERS
What's Your Edge
Laptop, down again. Which pretty much puts a halt to the old poker for a while - again.
Will use this time to read some poker books I think.
When I get the thing fixed, thinking of comingn back and using the following approach.
nl6max 1000hands
plo6max 500hands
lhe6max 500hands
lo86max 250hands
Would like to get into the habit of doing this 4 or 5 days a week, Think it would keep it interesting for me. May also mix in some nl heads up too. Hopefully this is only a tempory set back - probably come at a good time as I am not playing so well.
On a whim I played some nl6max today.
I actually managed to win. Even though I got set over setted AGAIN. Seems like he first winning session of nl ive had in ages.
900 hands, 2hrs, $25.45
Im glad i stopped playign nl for a while. Comign back fresh feels good. Still enjoying plo but may mx in some nlhe too this month.
So,
Back on the horse.
Back on the plo tables to be a little more precise. Felt a little uneasy jumping back in to the games after dropping around 8 buyins in the last 2 days. It went well, I played 8 tables for the first time. Got in around 1000 hands in 2 hours. Id be quite happy to grind out the hands, playing plo at 500 hands an hour. I get the feeling that 8 tables will be the max id be able to handle playing plo. Still planning to play a minimum of 15k hands this month.
1025 hands, 2hours, +$26.05
rough couple of days.
dropped 8 buyins ar plo, 4 each day.
then thinking Ill leave plo and try nl i get set over setted twice. oh and lose to JJ with AA. - all in preflop. J on river obv.
still i can i smile about it.
cant wait to start running normal never mind well.
on a positive note, im still up as I have rakeback, bonus, and won a buy in at nl50hu.
________________________________
I am enjoying plo, but the swings can be wild.
I like nl 6max but its rigged. (joke)
I am really enjoying nl50 hu - perhaps because its the only game im winning at.
________________________________
No more complaints about how im running, going from $15 to $550 without going busto in the process = running well.
rant over.
so,
This challenge for me is becoming more about my mind than the physical act of playing cards.
I read once that perception of life is about the twin perception of pain and pleasure. How some of us are programed to move away from pain and some are programed to move towards pleasure.
That you can convince yourself to except short term pain for long term pleasure.
That potential pain can sometimes be a better motivator than potential pleasure.
That potential pain can also be more motivating than present pleasure.
etc etc.
______________________________________________________
ok, so im over the $500 mark. Exciting. For me anyway. lol. Depending how you look at it thats 20 buyins or 50 buyins. Currently its 50 buyins for plo10. I have to fight the urge to take shots and try and move up faster. While I am very good at setting a stoploss and quitting if i take a shot and it goes badly, I think constant shot taking can be counter productive. I think this challenge is very much a case of slow and steady wins the race.
Right now my short term plan is to go from $500 to $1000 and move up. Thats it. Let it happen. Time is not an issue. Just play the hands. Earn that rake back! Maybe Ill actually win some $'s along the way to. That would be nice! lol.
So,
Im really enjoying plo. From the beginning of this challenge its the game Ive enjoyed playing most. PLO 6max and NL hu are my two favourite games so far. I didnt expect that. As I said earlier Im looking forwadr to focusing on PLO this month. Taking a complete break from nl.
Ive got in a massive 1300 hands so far this month. lol.
Been playing 4 or 5 tables of plo6max which works out at around 300 hands an hour.
So,
We are at the beginning of the third month of 2008. So far have turned $15 in to $500. Im happy with that. You know, I cant complain. $500 is a good number considering the fact that there has been a 10 or 12 buyin down swing already. (Just to clarify, that down swing basically means I broke even over 13k hands or so.)
One thing I am unhappy with is my mindset. I have not been applying myself. Failing to meet an easy goal of 30k hands in a month is ridiculous. simply ridiculous.
As i said in a previous entry, im still somewhat frustrated by nl6max it just feels like i cant win. Sure im running bad over a small sample and logically i should just play through it as i believe i am a winner at these stakes but i just cant bring myself to play nl6max right now.
This month plo6max will get my full attention. Im looking forward to it. Due the high variance of plo im thinking of starting at the $10 buy in tables, giving me a bankroll of 50 bi's. That should be plenty to work with. Hopefully i can produce a big month.
no monetory goals
gonna set my self up to win with a goal of 15k hands @ plo10 6max. Balancing expectation against reality..........
February was tough.
I had planned to grind out 30k hands of nl10. I got to somewhere around 13000 hands and had managed to drop about 10 buy ins. I felt I was playing well, but running superbad. Eventually i just stopped playing. The beats just kept coming. I was happy with my emotitonal controll. When I began to get frustrated I stopped playing. Had to take a break.
At this stage, I started jumping around quite a bit, trying different games, as I couldnt bring my self to play nl6max. I messed around with a little LHE heads up, - i suck. I played a bit more lhe 6max, - i suck at that too. I played some nlhu, I think I suck at that too, but ran awesome.
I really enjoyed playing nlhu, BUT im ridiculously underolled to play nl50hu.
I think my focus for MARCH will be playing PLO6max and watching the nlhu vids on cr.
i just cant bring my self to play nl6max right now.
i just hope, come the end of MARCH im not saying that about PLO.

goals for march.
get head right.
enjoy playing.
thats it.
NL50 HU : 1423hands, $349.70, 24.70BB/100
NL10 6MAX : 13 321hands, ($41.40), (1.55BB/100)
NL256MAX : 327hands, $26.35, 16.12BB/100
PLO2 6MAX : 2651hands, $9.16, 21.01BB/100
PLO10 6MAX : 1090hands, $33, 6.22BB/100
LHE 0.05-0.10 : 1901hands, ($8.01) (4.21BB/100)
LHE 0.25-0.50 : 4841hands, $38.95 1.61BB/100
LHE 0.50-1 : 209hands, ($45.80) (21.90BB/100)
LHE HU $1-$2 : 411hands, ($43.50) (5.28BB/100)
so, $15 to $328
Despite the fact that I have played very few hands this month the bankroll has went over the $300 mark. I am happy about this as it means I have 30 buy ins for nl10 - which is the second rung of my progression plan, which is laid out in an earlier entry, so it feels like progress.
Looking forward and thinking about February, i want to set some goals. Even as I type the word goal I inwardly flinch. No matter, on I go.
For February, I will play a minimum of 30k hands of nl. No hand goals for plo or lhe, will play these games as the notion takes me. 30K hands is easy to do in a month, there are people who knock that out in a week.......failure to reach this goal is not an option. No monetory goals. Just get the hands in.
I was gonna put up some screen shots of PT but ive played so few hands it seems rather pointless. When i get to the end of feb and have a sample of 30k hands ill post that.
so,
january is nearly done.
the bankroll currently sits at somewhere around $300.
again i have played very few hands. must sort this out. really though, cant just keep saying that. MUST play more.
if nothing else, i have found my groove in plo and nlhe. I think i will ten table nlhe and 5 table plo. I will be concentrating on these two games for the rest of jan and all of feb. i dont even want to talk about limit holdem.
will do a monthly update at end of jan
so,
ive put in hardly any hands. i wanted to get in arround 10k hands over the last week. just didnt feel like playing. A little bit dissapointed in myself as i know i wont be able to get many hands in next week as I have a lot on. On the other hand maybe it isnt wise to force myself. At this rate however, im going no where fast.
It seems like a waste of a month. Ill get there, just need to get back in the groove.
so,
i started playing poker again. Thats seems like as good a place to continue this challenge as any. Since Ive had the laptop back, I have dabbled with nlhe, lhe, plo, playing a few hundred hands of each in an attempt to get back in the groove, for want of a better term. I find I still enjoy playing all three games.
Interestingly, I have found myself slightly hesitant to play. I think somewhere in the back of my mind I knew that once I started playing again IT WAS ON. So to speak.
procrastination, mixed with fear of failure is a deadly cocktail of destructive behaviour and emotion. Infuse that with fear of success and it can numb the mind, dull the senses, and dilute ambition down into ambivalence.
______________________
I had a lovely little session of nlhe tonight. Nothing special in terms of monetory results, or big hands, i just felt really tuned in while playing. My mind was clear, I was enjoying playing, and I was making good decisions. I tried very hard to hold on to the feeling, to remeber it, so that in the future i might be able to recreate it while playing.

Want to get in 10k hands @ nl10.
Will mix in some lhe and some plo but no set goals as far as number of hands played.
so,
As far as poker is concerned, im starting 2008 a little late. As I mentioned in an earlier entry I have not played since October. Having taken an enforced break, due to a thoroughly unreliable laptop, I am now ready to continue my "challenge" of turning "$15 into $150,000"
Even now, as I think about this challenge, it amuses me - the ridiculousness of the whole idea makes me smile. And I like that. When I think about the possibitly of reaching this desired outcome, and I picture it in my mind, I find it both hugely inspiring and very intimidating - at times i want to mentally shrink away from the very idea.
As I think about the journey the destination seems impossibly far away. I have no idea how to quantify it or make it seem more tangible. I have no idea even, how to take my monetory goal and come up with a reasonable time frame for completion - should i ever get that far. That makes it intersting I suppose.
It seems to me, that my approach going forward should be to abandon the notion of timeframes or deadlines. Im thinking that all I can do is manage my bankroll correctly. Letting my skill level and variance, dictate how fast I move up and down the various limits. Off the top of my head, 30 buy ins seems reasonable for NLHE, moving down a limit at 25.
so,
for NLHE it looks like a possible bankroll plan would be.
nl10, $150-$300
nl10, $300-750
nl25, $750-1500
nl50, $1500-$3000
nl100, $3000-$6000
nl200, $6000-$12 000
nl400, $12000-$18000
nl600, $18000-$30000
nl1000, $30 000 - $60000
nl2000, $60000- $150000
__________________________
i do plan to mix in some lhe, plo and 08 in an attempt to become a well rounded player but I think most of my hands will be played at nlhe. Whether or not I have the skill to move up the limits at a reasonable pace remains to be seen.
stay tuned.
so,
the good news is i got my laptop back. the bad news is ive lost my pt databases. On the one hand im annoyed as i wanted to track this challenge the whole way from beginning to end. On the other hand, i like the idea of starting with "fresh" databases in 2008. Also I did manage to take screen shots, and post them to this very blog before the lap top went down so at least i have a visual record of the begining of my challenge.
so,
20.OCT.07 to 31.DEC.07 i turned $15 in to $150.
(was actually 20.OCT.07 TO 08.NOV.O7. )
(was taken out of commision by a rogue laptop)
(since its the 2007 summary we'll count it right up to the end of the year)
heres to a great 2008!
so my last blog entry was. 08.11.O7.
its now 09.01.08
My laptop went down, my cr membership lapsed about the same time (i had paid for 6 months). so ive not been playing any poker at all really. i played a little limit on a friends pc - i saved the hand history's so ill be able to put them into poker tracker.
just got the laptop back today, all seems to be working so its back to business.
the bankroll is somewhere around $150.
still got a some work to do.
lol.
NoLimit Stats, So far.
PotLimitOmaha Stats, So far
LimitHoldemStats, So far.
I feel good about my nl game, now that the bankroll is up a little bit im Back to using a full stack which I much prefer. Though I think there is a lot to be said about the use of a 40 to 50 bb stack in nolimit. I will be using it in the future - when I first move up to a new limit for example.
I am really enjoying plo. There are a lot of situations where I feel lost, but Im working through it. Limiting myself to playing plo$10 or below, playing plo25 on my current roll is ridiculous. Got a lot to learn as far as plo goes, but I look forward to the challenge.
As far as LHE goes, im really surprising myself - im actually enjoying it. Im running extremely well.
NoLimitHoldem: 55.54
LimitHoldem: 19.30
PotLimitOmaha: 31.05
Rakeback: 3
Initial Bankroll: 15
Current bankroll 149
Ive also earned around $25, from a combination of UB bonus, blackjack and roshambo!
15 to 149.....................tastes good.
Still not getting in the hands. Getting a couple of hundred hands in, here and there, when I can. On a whim, I decided to try my hand at LimitHoldem. Been playing 25c-50c.
25c-50c, 318hands, +£19.30, bb/100=12.14!
Sample size, shmample size! Obviously running ridic well, over a tiny hand sample, but ill take it!
I think I will def continue to play lhe throughout this challenge. I am really enjoying the variety of playing different games, and the challenge of tryining to get good at them all. I have started reading stoxtraders book. Its dynamite. Its so well done. I highly recomend it to anyone wanting to pick up LHE.
current bankroll. $149.
so i have played a little LimitHoldem at 25c-50c level. Surprisingly, i really enjoyed it. I am really enjoying playing three different games. I wish id thought of it before, think its a great way to keep it interesting, instead of just playing 1 game, grinding out a lot of hands on autopilot.
plan to reread stoxtraders and king yaos book, over the next few weeks.
and for plo, slotbooms book.
want to get into the habit of studying as well as playing.and also taking the time to do detailed session reviews.
Hardly put in any hands.......and It looks like im not gonna get many hands in this week. Hopefully I can make up for a slow start as the month goes on.
Thinking about adding some lhe into the mix, maybe starting at 25c-50c. Ive got around 250 big bets for that game so that seems reasonable. The plan is to stick to nl$10, plo$2 and maybe some lhe25c-50c. I used to play a lot of lhe. Then I got into nlhe. I find nlhe a much more enjoyable game, but Ive never really had the results Id like. I think a big part of that is getting caught up in the grind, playing, playing, playing and not taking the time to turn the autopilot off and actually get better.
I like the idea of doing a challenge like this, and coming out the other end a solid, well rounded player with a good grasp of NoLimitHoldem, PotLimitOmaha and LimitHoldem.
So, its a new month. My actual results for last month were $15 to $133. I snuck in a little nl25 after I wrote my end of month review. I played a mammoth session of 33 hands winning $12.90 , I lost $9 playing blackjack. Taking my holdem total to $48.53 my blackjack total is something like $9 or $10, after this losing session i think my love affair with blackjack is over. lol. Turns out, i only like it when im winning!
Im hoping to get a good amount of hands in this month.
Hopefully I run good!
early as I doubt I will be playing anymore this month
Got rakeback payment of $15. In an effort to try and get enthusiastic about poker again, I set my self a challenge. Work with that $15 and try and turn it into $150000. I set the rule that If I went busto I couldnt redeposit, and would be done with poker for a while.
I started playing the $10 nolimit 6max tables, with a 50bb stack. I dabbled with plo on the $2 6max tables. Once up to around $25 I started playing a few hands of Blackjack at $1 a hand. I kept doing all of this up untill I got to about $50, at which point I withdrew from UB and moved over to Fulltilt. Having been really enjoying my time at the plo tables, I decided to take a shot at the $10 plo tables on Fulltilt. I lost a buy in pretty quickly. I found fulltilt very slow but played nlhe untill my roll was up at $50 again. I withdrew from FT and headed back to UB, knowing I had some bonus to work of, that It was faster and that I could get back on the $2 plo tables. I had decided it was stupid to sit in a plo game at stakes I only had 5 buy ins for.....
......so once Im back on UB I decide to play some plo, I look at the $2 tables and they are all full. UB has no $10 tables for plo, so the next step up was the $25 tables. There were two running, they play look terrible, one player in particular was on both tables. I decided to risk it and sit. Now im playing plo at stakes I only have 2 buyins for...............i knew if i dropped $25 fairly quickly, i would still have enough to continue the challenge so I went for it. It went well and I left the tables +$35.
From that point Ive cruised along nicely, still playing nl10. I have been experimenting with various stack sizes. To be honest Im happiest with 100bb, but i like the thought of being comfortable with different stack sizes. I have mostly been sticking with 50bb. I feel its an amount I can work with, but if i lose it all on one hand Its not too big a hit to my bankroll. I have taken another couple of shots at the $25plo tables when the games have looked good and done reasonably well.
One problem I have had is with pokertracker. it has missed some hands - on both FT and UB. I think the FT problem was addressed in a Pokertracker patch, and I think UB's stupid hand history system makes errors and missed hands much more likely. Regardless, I will report the PT stats that I have.
nlhe $10, ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,1971hands,,,,,,,,,,,,9.27hrs,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,$27.16
plo $2,$10,$25,,,,,,,,,,,,1386hands,,,,,,,,,,,,,,9.53hrs,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,$37.25
blackjack,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,$16
rackback,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,$3
initial br,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,$15
this is total of,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,98.41
my actual account balance,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,$121.12
Im putting the difference down to the UB bonus that is earned in dribs and drabs, and PT missing some hands.
So I have gone from £15 to $121. I played very few hands, played totally underolled and dabbled with some blackjack. I feel I have taken some controlled risks. I am very happy with my results so far and hope my luck continues. I hope to get in a lot more hands in, in November.
I started this challenge as a way to try and regain some enthusiasm for poker. I started this blog as a way to record the ups and downs. Ive never had a blog before, never really been a big blog reader. Any blog I do read is about poker, and I prefer the ones that are strictly about poker. Im never interested to hear what some poker player i dont know had for lunch, or how their vacation went etc etc.
In this blog im basically reporting numbers. I doubt I will be putting a lot of handhistories in at any point. Who wants to hear some chumps thoughts on a $10buyin nlhe hand anyway, lol. So its a numbers blog, and thats ok with me. I think thats what makes it interesting.
I also like the fact that its ridiculous. Who tries to work with a $15 bankroll? That said, I fully believe it can be done. Stakes on the net go as low as $1 and $2 buyin nl tables. If id had a bad start at nl10 Id have grinded those. In general, outside the context of this challenge, add rakeback and bonus's into the equation and I dont think there is any excuse for ever going busto in online poker. I think you can only go busto if you want to. At some point right or wrong, people make the decision. They dont educate themselves enough on the game , they keep playing a limit they are losing at, they refuse to move down, they end up under rolled and get caught.
Being underolled is the theme of this blog. But, i wont go busto. Even when my roll was up at around $50 and I have it all on two $25 buy in plo tables, im being sensible about it. I knew with the variance in plo I could drop a buy in very quickly, But I knew If i did - i was done- i would get off those tables and I would still have $25 bucks to grind it out at nl$2 or plo$2 or more likely 4 or 5 table nl10 with 50bb stacks. Within the context of this challenge Im happy to take risks like this. Even my little stints at blackjack are done with a strict stop loss. I was told never to play blackjack and never to start a sentence with the word but. Now ive done both more than once-I feel dirty. But i like it.....
I was reading through some of my entries and I had to laugh, here I am in a money making challenge, playing plo totally under rolled interspersed with random hands of blackjack. It must look like a ridiculous approach. Talking of plo, that may be an intersting part of this blog. I may be able to provide a little insight from a beginners point of view, on the learning process, as i try to pick up this game. Maybe once the novelty factor wears off, youll hear no more of plo. Maybe Ill make it my main game. Who knows.
Another part if this challenge is Blackjack. In the past I have always jokingly said that blackjack was evil. These days I really do think the black jack icon that sits in the corner of an online poker table at some sites really is the work of the devil. Id love to know in the form of a percentage how many players out of a sites entire player base have actually resisted clicking that button. I dont have much gamble in me. Ive never felt the inclination to play balckjack, roulette, bet horses etc etc. I only got into poker because I felt I could actually win. That said, in this challenge I have been dabbling with blackjack a little. To keep things in perspective I betting $1 a hand, so Im not going crazy. I dont see my self as having an addictive personality, but can fully understand how people can get hooked on this game, especially online. That old cliche about clicking a mouse, never handling/seeing the money really resonates with me when thinking of online blackjack. I have some knowledge of basic blackjack strategy, but have not studied it in any great depth. Im up around $14 now. I will stop playing bj if/when I lose all of that, untill then ima keep on hit and running. I will never let black jack have any serous impact on my bankroll.
For a bankroll is like a retractable pencil, push it too hard and its gonna break.
flightofthechoncordsreferencetherelol!
ongoing blackjack total of $14.
i love blackjack.
I love $1 a hand black.
maybe one day ill love $10 a hand blackjack.
maybe, just maybe, one day ill learn to love $100 blackjack.
im dreamin the dream baby.
my bankroll is now 82.77
I am a bit annoyed as pokertracker doesnt seem to be recording my play properly. My stats now show me as having only made $5.58 at nlhe, and $28,64 at plo. Both of these are actually less than what they should be. I think poker tracker has missed some hands, hopefully I can get it sorted.
I got the plo bug bad man. I moved over to fulltilt to play $10tables. I cant play there because of the lag. it intolerably slow. Also I shouldnt be playing that game with a $50 bankroll. (i think i may be missing some ft handhistories too, something ubout the time bank, fucking up hand histories for poker tracker) So i moved back to UB. Once back at UB i was playing some nl10. but not really feeling it. I decided to play some plo. When checking out the games I had a look at the $25 tables
. They seemed soft, the $2 tables were full, so I sat at the $25 tables with 100bb on each table. I managed to win around $35 in about 50 hands or so. Pt only recorded $25.
Took a shot and got lucky. Thats the theme of this challenge so far. I feel ok with my decisions up to this point, though i could have easily brought my challenge to an ubrupt halt on those plo tables today. Again though, im happy with my decision, i feel I am really getting into a groove with my plo game, i could see the same bad player on both tables, i felt i had an edge - so I sat. I dont mind takign risks, and having pretty much your whole bankroll spread accross two plo tables is exactly that!
I am bummed that pt isnt recording this challenge accuratly. Staying positive, and assuming i manage to make my goal, being able to show the stats and graph would be awesome, hell even if I crash and burn Id like accurate records of it. Hopefully I can sort this out.
I also recieved rakeback to the tune of £3. yeah baby!
$15 to $82.77 ..................................tastes good.
I am developing a bit of a love hate relationship with plo. I find it a very interesting, mentally stimulating game. I am really enjoying the learning process. The variance is incredible though. I think if i was playing plo for a living I would need somewhere between 50 and 100 buy ins to feel comfortable.
I find I can not play anymore than 3 tables of plo and get "tired" fairly quickly.
plo resluts so far
$2, 837hands, +$12.49, 37.31bb/100
$10, 446hands, ($9.30), (10.43)bb/100
1283hands, $3.19, 20.71bb/100
i made to over 50, and was able to withdraw and move to a different site. This allowed me to take a crack at plo10. I dont know what I was thinking sitting in a plo game with a bankroll of 5 buyins. Im pushing my bankroll hard as it is in this challenge and really dont need to add the variance of plo into the mix. The fact that im not that good at plo is also a factor! I will stick to $2 buy in from now on with plo. Heading back to ub i guess.
I have not stuck to playing short or mid stacks in nlhe. I can do it. I believe I could be a very profitable shortstacker. However this style of play just bores me. I have not been getting in many hands but what nl Ihave played I played with a full stack, I won 2.5 buy ins in a 109 hands today which was awesome. I think im gonna keep playing the full stack for now see how it goes, nice to have a full stack infront of you when your making hands.
Im not getting in many hands, even though i have the time. I wish i could be more of a grinder,..maybe I'll work on that throughout this challenge. For now, though Im playing when I fell like it and enjoying it. I seem to be developing the bad habit of "locking in a win" and quiting when im up. Maybe thats no bad thing on such a ridiculously short roll.
$15 to $64 in a couple of thousand hands is not bad, ill take it.
I may also retire from blackjack, up $11!
now to rock the roshambo tables, lol.
n10, +$37.34
plo2, +$5.25
plo10, ($9.30)
bj, +11
im not gonna keep tab of ub's bonus. im just gonna report,
my account balance/bankroll,
my ongoing BJ total,
my pt figures for what ever games im playing.
ok, so after 3.5 hours of plo and just over 5 hours of nlhe. I am up around $20, which considering the stakes im playing, aint too bad. After a few hands of Blackjack I am up $11. maybe i should play more bj! So ive gone from $15 to $50 relatively quickly. Im glad Ive had a good start. One thing that has happened as a result of starting this challenge is that I am becoming really protective over my tiny bankroll. I really dont want to do something stupid and have to end my challenge.
Having said that, I am playing a little bj with this money. I am only betting in $1 increments and have a strict stop loss limit. I think my blackjack playing will taper off as the challenge goes on. I dont think I'll be playing for any higher than $1 a hand at any point. I normally play to get my roll up to a round number
before I enter my "ongoing total " blogs. I have been lucky so far with blackjack but dont see it as an important part of this challenge. I just enjoy the gamble, even at $1 stakes.
I have been playing nlhe with a 50bb stack. The idea being, that I wanted to protect my tiny bankroll from taking too much of a hit on any one hand. I initially found 50bb a hard stack to manage at the table. It took some adjusting, as to my mind it is not really shortstacking. To me 10 to 20bb is a shortstack and there is a huge difference in playing a 10-20bb stack to a 50bb stack. I may start buying in for 20bb and just staying at table as I build a stack - in an effort to become comfortable playing all different sizes of stack. Having said all of that, as soon as I hit $30 i started playing with 100bb on the nl10 tables.....so i guess that speaks volumes about my enthusiasm for playing a short or a midsize stack. I really should continue it for a while to protect my roll. Even though my bankroll has reached $50, this is 5 buyins at nl10. very risky business!
I have been playing plo at much smaller stakes, at the $2 buy in tables. I have been playing these games with a full stack. I am really enjoying playing plo. Much more than nl. I find it much more interesting. Also, now that I am at $50, that gives me 25 buy ins at the $2 tables, which should be more than enough when taking into the consideration the caliber of my opponents at this limit and be much less of a risk to my bankroll as a whole. I feel my self making quite a few mistakes as i play, but I really want to learn this game and will stick with it.
For some reason I am happy to play plo at $2 buy in but cant bring myself to play nlholdem any lower than $10 buy in.

Fifteen dollars. This was my most recent rake back payment. Having just decided that I was taking a break from poker, I had just withdrawn the small amount of money I had online. A few days later I was notified via email that this small rakeback payment was now sitting in my account. I knew I couldn’t withdraw it as this site has a $50 minimum withdrawal policy. I considered playing blackjack with it and actually loaded up the site to do so. I didnt play though. In the back of my mind I was already thinking that it would be awesome to take this fifteen dollars and attempt to run it up playing poker, never depositing again. Taking the time to start at the bottom and really learn the game as I go. I thought for a while on the best way to start. I decided on the nl10 6max tables. I decided to play three tables with $5 on each. I put in just under 1000 hands, in just over 5 hours. My mt ratio in poker tracker is 1.79, I got in 180 hands an hour, at an hourly rate of $3 = $15.63 I also played 113 hands of plo 6max on the $2 buy in table, + $0.63 I also won a little playing blackjack, betting $1 a time. + $9 I also earned around a dollar or two in bonus from UB in this time. new total = $41.54
In one of my poker accounts, I recently received a mighty rakeback payment of $15.
I have set my self the challenge of turning that into $150000!
I will continue the blog untill I either bust or I make it to $150k.
I will only be taking one run at this challenge, and in the likely event that I bust out early there wont be a second attempt.
I will be including rakeback and any bonus's towards my total.
I may play a little black jack with this money, any wins and losses will also count towards this challenge.
I plan to play mostly nl 6max. I may mix in a little lhe or plo.
I hope I dont bust early, as I am really curiuos to see what I can do with this $15. I am also fairly pumped to play, its amazing what setting yourself a ridiculous challenge can do for your motivation. I am unsure if the best way to start this challenge - I will really have to fight the urge to start by playing black jack. I am thinking that I will play 3 tables of nl10 with $5 on each table and see what happens. I have never played with a 50bb stack before but I dont think it will be a problem.
