CARDRUNNERS
What's Your Edge
January 02, 2009
With 2008 in the books, I set out to create some goals for myself in 2009. Here's what I came up with today:- Stop tilting. Figure out how to control myself when I feel tilt coming on, and find a plausible way to close down the poker tables when it starts. I swear I'd have one of the highest winrates in the games I play if I could put an end to the -12BI implosion days I seem to have every few weeks. I'll be re-reading Tommy Angelo's book as needed to help me out. This is the #1 priority for me right now.
- Keep sessions short & sweet. I'm gonna set new daily stopping points for myself for both winning and losing to prevent me from having those huge losing days. As I wrote in a recent post, if this means that I don't ever have humongo winning days then so be it.
- Overall goal for the year at cash games: make $400k. This is gonna be tough to achieve playing mostly 2/4 - 5/10PLO, but $33k/month is certainly possible. I'd like to play 5/10 & 10/20 fulltime again, but I won't be back up there until I make back all the money I cashed out last month. I'm a bankroll nit -- especially for PLO -- and I need some good padding in my accounts before moving to the mid-high stakes games again fulltime.
- Work on self-improvement outside of poker a minimum of 5x per week for at least one hour. This could include working out, practicing guitar, or working on my drumming fundamentals so I can play on a real set someday. I really have no excuse for not sticking to this.
- And last but certainly not least, get out more! I need to find some people in Chicago who share my (rather unpopular) interests in avant-garde styles of music and beer. And I should really put forth a more concerted effort into meeting girls because being single is getting old. That's enough emo-ranting for one entry.
I started the year off with a nice session today -- running above expectation! -- so hopefully that will be the shape of things to come in the future. Happy New Year everyone!

All the best for 09 Thomas, your goals are pretty similar to mine....much higher stakes pokerwise sadly, but hopefully we both get there!
Kinda agree with the stop win/stop loss idea, even though Sklansky would say otherwise, if it's + life ev then it's for the best imo.
