Are you finding yourself getting anymore cut (bodyfat dropping) from the jiu jitsu and mauy thai classes? they sound pretty intense.
Jun 23, 08 11:51:34
as far as getting more cut, its too early to tell, but yes. its a sicko workout, much more intense than anything i have done before, so it will definitely help. i have a prop bet to get below 10% bf in 3 months, so hopefully this will help, though i dont think it will be all that difficult. as far as the differences in jiu jitsus, i have absolutely no clue. the video should be out before friday, but dont quote me on that.
Jun 23, 08 17:38:00
please make some 6 max \$1/2 videos if u can. no super pros have made good videos at these levels in a long time.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu places a greater emphasis on use of position and leverage to gain an advantage on your opponent. Helio Gracie is considered the founder of BJJ - he was small and frail as a youth, so he adapted Japanese Jiu-Jitsu (there was a large Japanese settlement in Brazil) to make it work for him. And of course, BJJ is almost all about the ground fighting - Japanese Jiu-Jitsu is basically Judo (throws, chokes, joint locks, etc).

I'm not a PLO expert ... barely even a novice. But you hate one hand and love the other... however both hands involve an open ender vs an overpair, correct? Not criticizing, just wondering why you hate his play in both hands.
Jun 19, 08 16:21:05
as a guy actually named Chase myself, I can tell you that if you look in your dresser drawer, you will find that you are missing one sock out of every pair you own. Not the type to steal cash, however owning himself in your sock drawer....Likely.

He didn't say he loved the first hand, it was a bad spot so he decided to crai and ended up getting it in good. In the second hand he has a 13card wrap and that makes up the lower end of his range for getting it in there and he's still a favorite.

Quote "In the second hand he has a 13 card wrap and that makes up the lower end of his range for getting it in there and he's still a favorite."
Now obviously this is an aggressive HU game going on here. From the villain's perspective, David's "range" could be anything from complete air to big hand or draw that he had, and villain has some outs if David has something like 2 pair. So villain makes aggressive CR on flop and from reraise AI by David, he obviously miscalculated, but it only costs him 5k more to call a 20k plus pot (easy call at that point, obviously). David-why is it ok for you to check shove on turn in earlier hand when you are only 35% (and "not like I'm in horrible shape or anything" according to you), and yet how "terrible" his play was when he was 45% on flop in this hand? I would really appreciate the "perspective" that some of us are missing here.
Jun 20, 08 23:25:37
bobkill, these hands are nowhere near the same, at all, in any way whatsoever. you cant just go by the results, then be like 'oh well you were 35% this hand but say it wasnt that bad, but he was 45% here and u say it was bad?? wtf you suck!' its about hand ranges. KKxx doesnt play well vs a range of hands, it plays fine when i have T97 wrap, and then its fine, but golly gee i can have more than that! the cool thing about poker is you never know what they have until they flip up their cards, unless you are superuser ofc
Jun 21, 08 08:59:53
David-appreciate the reply, but I guess I'm still confused. As aggressive high stakes players heads up, what percentage of the time are you guys checkraising the flop with air or mediocre draws? From some of the hand histories posted by you high stakes players, it seems like it happens at least occasionally, if not somewhat frequently heads up. So my point about that hand is that your opponent made an aggressive cr "bluff" on flop which when reraised AI by you was obviously mistake, but at that point he was pot committed to make the call. Now, if you are referring to preflop action when you say KKxx "doesn't play well vs. range of hands", then why on earlier hand would you call reraise preflop with AQ95 (granted you were double suited, but it was 9 high for one of them, and you were only 38% preflop)? And of course your answer to that question would be "that's the cool thing about poker, you never know what they have", which I guess is my point. He didn't know what you had, and it could have been air, or 2 pair, or mediocre draw, or massive draw, or 4 of a kind if you're holding 3 jokers, or WHATEVER. Now if he just called your flop bet that hand, then obviously that probably would have been mistake, but he was raising, representing a big hand, and you were fortunate enough to have a decent draw. I'll just say this-if you can process what "range" of hands an elite high stakes poker player (like yourself) has, esp. in PLO where you can represent just about ANYTHING on ANY HAND on ANY FLOP (provided you're not just "playing your cards"-and especially when there is even a miniscule amount of bluffing going on), then you can officially state that Chris "Jesus" Ferguson is your "idiot" cousin. Other than the rudimentary basics of "hand ranges" in PLO, I think you high stakes players give too much credit to that area for your success, instead of the much more important areas such as tilt control, discipline, psychological warfare, courage, "strategery", etc. etc. Thanks alot for taking the time to reply to some of these things in your blog

This is kind of random, but I hear you guys all talk about Credit Card Roulette a lot and I was just wondering how it works and how you actually do it. Thanks for replies.

Reading your blog kinda made my day. It's always pleasant to take a look some real stories instead of things like "look how degenerate am i"(that was also fine for quite some time) or like some other regular boring poker things.

Deadliest Catch is retardedly good for being a show about crab fishing. My wife and I have come to the conclusion that we are so fascinated by it because we know there is no chance in hell we could do the job if we had to for more than like an hour, and these guys go at it for30 hour stretches at a time.

David, considering your stacks in hand histories, it seems you're definitely not afraid to play deep stack at 200/400 anymore. Nice !!!
