Right now I am watching a 3 part series called Galapagos, which is a nature documentary on the Galapagos Islands, and it is super sweet. I really love HD nature documentaries it really feels like you are almost there. There are some pretty unbelievable animals that only reside there, and nowhere else in the world. I suppose I feel like I am wasting less time watching something like this as opposed to The Wire or something, but it is definitely a cool change of pace to watch something semi educational, though I suppose learning about the crack trade in the Baltimore ghetto is educational as well.
Today was actually pretty sweet. I woke up kinda late with intentions of getting in a lift, but my neck and back were super sore from jiu jitsu, so I decided to lay in bed for a couple extra hours and just relax. Upon rising from slumber, I met up with a few people for lunch, then headed over to the canadian’s house to witness a 100 oreo in an hour prop bet.
A few days ago aejones, his buddy matty and I played some basketball, and went to naked fish at night and somehow got on the topic of eating 100 oreos. I said there was no chance he could do it, even though he is a pretty big kid, prob 6’3 250 and seemed like he could eat. Anyways we set it up for today, and he polished off the first 60 in 10 minutes. From there he didn’t really slow down and had 100 knocked out in about 40 minutes, and wasn’t even breaking a sweat. I expected this to be much more difficult, but ended up losing the bet, with a newfound respect for matty’s eating ability.
After that I came back and took a nap. This is the first nap I have taken in probably 8 years. I can’t remember the last time I came back in the afternoon and slept for an hour. It felt pretty good though, and I woke up and went with Tony to eat at Bennihana’s at the Hilton. This place is awesome, I really like the ambiance and feel of the place, plus the food is pretty great. I always get a double order of everything so I have lots of leftovers, as hibachi heats up well in the microwave. Probably not the healthiest of meals, but it sure tasted amazing.
After dinner, I came home and decided to finish off my latest video. I recorded 2 hours of a session earlier this week, some 50-1 6max as well as 3 tables of 25-50 vs takechip/flipokeher. Hopefully you guys like it, there is a bit of me getting stomped and me doing some stomping, which I think works out to an all around better video, so you get to see me look silly as well as good, so it doesn’t come across like I just tried to make myself look good, I definitely look a bit silly in this one, but I think overall it is a great video and has some cool hands. I will probably do a second part for the next video if you guys liked it, but I haven’t done it yet so im not sure.
Tomorrow I am going to wake up pretty earlyish and attempt 2 classes, jiu jitsu at 10 then muay thai at 11. The first day I did muay thai, there was absolutely no chance I could have done a second class, I nearly blacked out halfway through. Over the last couple weeks I feel like I am getting in better shape, and am going to try to push myself tomorrow and get through it. I am having a lot of fun learning a couple fighting forms, and think it is a great overall workout as well as a lot of fun (my whole body hurts, but I guess that’s part of it).
In the afternoon I am going to be on Bart Hanson’s radio show, the same one that Taylor did last week, and Krantz did a couple weeks before that. I have never been on a radio show before, or really done any sort of media stuff for that matter, so I suppose im slightly nervous, and am not really sure what to expect, but am looking forward to it nonetheless. Hopefully it goes well and I don’t sound like an idiot. I’m pretty tired right now, so am going to try to get some sleep, but I’ll make a longer blog post in the next couple days with some of the other stuff I have wanted to talk about. Next tourney I am playing is the 5k 6max on the 26th, so I have a nice little retreat from the live poker world.

as far as getting more cut, its too early to tell, but yes. its a sicko workout, much more intense than anything i have done before, so it will definitely help. i have a prop bet to get below 10% bf in 3 months, so hopefully this will help, though i dont think it will be all that difficult. as far as the differences in jiu jitsus, i have absolutely no clue. the video should be out before friday, but dont quote me on that.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu places a greater emphasis on use of position and leverage to gain an advantage on your opponent. Helio Gracie is considered the founder of BJJ - he was small and frail as a youth, so he adapted Japanese Jiu-Jitsu (there was a large Japanese settlement in Brazil) to make it work for him. And of course, BJJ is almost all about the ground fighting - Japanese Jiu-Jitsu is basically Judo (throws, chokes, joint locks, etc).

What a day. I woke up at 830, had a nice bowl of fiber one bran cereal with soy milk and a banana, then went to muay thai class at 10. That was a beating, and I worked my shins in for the first time, and am paying the price right now, as they are swollen and extremely sore. Anyhoo, it was a great workout, and I look forward to going more and more. The first workout I almost passed out halfway through, but after this third class, I am feeling much better and feel like im already getting in much better cardio shape.
After class I went home, grabbed a shower, made a new protein shake with blueberries, strawberries, a scoop of whey, flax seed, flax oil, whole grain rolled oats, and a cup of soy milk. It was quite tasty, and a bit diff than my standard banana peanut butter shake. I headed up to rio VERY excited about the 1500 plo rebuy. I had a brutal beat for a big pot in the 5k plor, so I was wanting to take some vengeance out on this.
I drew the absolute worst table in the history of mankind. There wasn’t a single good player, meaning everyone bought in for the minimum, and nitballed the entire time. I managed to buy in for a single shot, and run it up to 10k. By the end of the rebuy phase, 10k was 3rd biggest stack at my table, while tables around me stack leaders were 70-100k. I decided it was a waste of money to addon, and busted like third hand after rebuy period. I reraised KQJ9ds up to like 3k pf, got 1 caller, flop came down Q85 with both of my backdoor draws, guy checked I stuffed, he restuffed, I cried and called, and he had QJT8. I bricked off and that was that.
For dinner, me joe and tony were supposed to meet with a guy we will call ‘Chase’ I have never met in real life, and 2 of his buddies at Tao. I have talked to him online a bit, and on the phone today, and we had reservations at 915. We showed up at about 920, and ‘Chase’ said he was on his way in and would be there in 10. We waited until 940 and I texted him again saying where the fk are you, and he said he was going up escalator in 90 seconds. We waited another 10 minutes, when Joe jokingly said ‘hey dave I bet this guy u never met set up this dinner to lure us out of the house so he could rob us’. I kinda nervously laughed as I started piecing together the possibility that this could be true.
After joe said that I sent ‘Chase’ a text ‘You didn’t lure me out of my house with tricks of sushi deliciousness so that you could rob me did you?’ in a joking manner. I didn’t get a reply for 5 minutes or so, so I gave him a call.. and it went straight to voice mail. At this point, I was starting to get a little worried, and kept thinking about all of the things that were said to me that could potentially mean I was going to get robbed. I decided that at this point there was at least a 40% chance that I was going to go home and all my computer shit was going to be gone, and what little cash I kept in the house would have vanished.
Joe and Tony were in on it too, and we all built up this fascination with our house being robbed, and by the time we were pulling into the development, we were probably 95% sure our stuff was gone. Anyways, we got inside and everything was cool, and I felt like a huge paranoid idiot and we all had a good laugh about it. I still haven’t heard from ‘Chase’. Odd indeed. We proceeded to eat at naked fish, which was amazing as always, and tony got the fried ice cream and laughed at me and joe as he ate it, since we have a new prop bet involving foods such as delicious fried ice cream. It always helps to have a little money motivation ‘Is this French fry REALLY worth 1k?’ etc.
After dinner I got home and there were some ok looking plo games, so I decided to play for a bit. I managed to insta get stuck like 120k. I have no idea how it happened. ACTUALLY I DO. I was also playing lars and postflop HU at HA or on a plo and a nl table. Tonight was basically a complete disaster, and ill talk about some hands now.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2778340 – obv vs lars, he sat for 30k I sat for 20, and I felt like being goofy. I have been experimenting with reraising with speculative hands at 50x stacks, as it is always awkward to play against. Anyways, I flopped gin and got it in only to get binked. Pretty standard I hate life etc.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2778338 – sooo NL, my specialty! Stacks got deeper, he doubled up through me I don’t really remember how, im sure ill find the HH in a bit to show u, but this was just completely ****ing abysmal. This hand happened what felt like 3 minutes after the 4 outer that lars put on me. Literally same exact thing, only for more money. WHEEEEEE off to a good start.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2778345 – this hand was pretty aids, I dno im not really sure what else I can do, I bet flop a lot and what not, but I felt like checking for once, if I didn’t I prob would have stacked off or something I dno. Whatever.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2778163 – Luckily, I got it all back when he decided to monkey pay me off in a pretty good sized pot. I am glad I actually won a hand. That is it for NL tonight, on to PLOwhatajoke.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2778285 – I am not really sure about this, he seemed to be firing double barrels a decent bit, so I decided to check shove. Unfortunately he had nutters, and I bricked. I am still 35% on the turn, so its not like I was in horrible shape or anything. If I was ziig or something I would have binked it for sure.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2778212 – OBV OBV OBV get binked. I think it has something to do with me saying over and over in my head ‘NO KING NO JACK NO KING NO JACK’ and then my mind powers are so strong it comes because that is the card im thinking of. I feel very strongly that this is the case.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2778192 – this hand was a joke. I couldn’t believe I was in such good shape. On the flop I was just kinda like ok fark me what do I do and decided to check shove. He obviously had the nutball nothing, and binked it off. Shocker that one.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2778274 – I cant say enough how terrible I think his play here is. It is completely atrociously bad to call pf and check jam that flop. I guess he knows something I don’t, but even though he THOUGHT he was getting it in good, hes still a 55/45 DOG. Oh well. Just not my night.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2778363 – The night got SLIGHTLY better when I won this big flip. If I lost it I was probably going to suicide, since I was stuck about 18 trillion at this point. I am pretty sure my line is 100% standard. Another mind trick, I was saying ‘DEUCE DEUCE DEUCE’ in my head, and it came running deuces. Ironic? I think not. Skilltonic, I think so.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2778368 – soooo this hand is kinda cool I think maybe. I felt like on the river he was either trying to think me out with AQ, or had complete crap, but I felt like I couldn’t profitably call. I really didn’t think he had a 9 very often, so I felt like shoving. It might be completely terrible, and I might have the best hand, but it worked out so ship it.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2778210 – this hand was pretty cool too. I called the turn raise hoping that I could bluff a heart river, as well as my real outs, and it worked out just how I planned. I felt pretty smart.
Ok that wraps it up for today. I am going to sleep all day tomorrow, and hopefully wake up and get something done, perhaps get unstuck from today. I am having a pretty great month even counting today, so I am not really discouraged. I feel like my game is developing more and more in PLO every time I play, as I see more cool options for plays than I used to. I think I am starting to become a pretty great player, but only time will tell. Hopefully I can work up the courage to play more when I am not stuck, and try to have some sicko cts/stinger esque days. Cheers.

I'm not a PLO expert ... barely even a novice. But you hate one hand and love the other... however both hands involve an open ender vs an overpair, correct? Not criticizing, just wondering why you hate his play in both hands.

He didn't say he loved the first hand, it was a bad spot so he decided to crai and ended up getting it in good. In the second hand he has a 13card wrap and that makes up the lower end of his range for getting it in there and he's still a favorite.

45% "TERRIBLE" versus 35% "NOT HORRIB

http://www.pokerhand.org/?2778274
Quote "In the second hand he has a 13 card wrap and that makes up the lower end of his range for getting it in there and he's still a favorite."
Now obviously this is an aggressive HU game going on here. From the villain's perspective, David's "range" could be anything from complete air to big hand or draw that he had, and villain has some outs if David has something like 2 pair. So villain makes aggressive CR on flop and from reraise AI by David, he obviously miscalculated, but it only costs him 5k more to call a 20k plus pot (easy call at that point, obviously). David-why is it ok for you to check shove on turn in earlier hand when you are only 35% (and "not like I'm in horrible shape or anything" according to you), and yet how "terrible" his play was when he was 45% on flop in this hand? I would really appreciate the "perspective" that some of us are missing here.

bobkill

Jun 20, 08 23:25:37

bobkill, these hands are nowhere near the same, at all, in any way whatsoever. you cant just go by the results, then be like 'oh well you were 35% this hand but say it wasnt that bad, but he was 45% here and u say it was bad?? wtf you suck!' its about hand ranges. KKxx doesnt play well vs a range of hands, it plays fine when i have T97 wrap, and then its fine, but golly gee i can have more than that! the cool thing about poker is you never know what they have until they flip up their cards, unless you are superuser ofc

Jun 21, 08 08:59:53

CONFUSION

David-appreciate the reply, but I guess I'm still confused. As aggressive high stakes players heads up, what percentage of the time are you guys checkraising the flop with air or mediocre draws? From some of the hand histories posted by you high stakes players, it seems like it happens at least occasionally, if not somewhat frequently heads up. So my point about that hand is that your opponent made an aggressive cr "bluff" on flop which when reraised AI by you was obviously mistake, but at that point he was pot committed to make the call. Now, if you are referring to preflop action when you say KKxx "doesn't play well vs. range of hands", then why on earlier hand would you call reraise preflop with AQ95 (granted you were double suited, but it was 9 high for one of them, and you were only 38% preflop)? And of course your answer to that question would be "that's the cool thing about poker, you never know what they have", which I guess is my point. He didn't know what you had, and it could have been air, or 2 pair, or mediocre draw, or massive draw, or 4 of a kind if you're holding 3 jokers, or WHATEVER. Now if he just called your flop bet that hand, then obviously that probably would have been mistake, but he was raising, representing a big hand, and you were fortunate enough to have a decent draw. I'll just say this-if you can process what "range" of hands an elite high stakes poker player (like yourself) has, esp. in PLO where you can represent just about ANYTHING on ANY HAND on ANY FLOP (provided you're not just "playing your cards"-and especially when there is even a miniscule amount of bluffing going on), then you can officially state that Chris "Jesus" Ferguson is your "idiot" cousin. Other than the rudimentary basics of "hand ranges" in PLO, I think you high stakes players give too much credit to that area for your success, instead of the much more important areas such as tilt control, discipline, psychological warfare, courage, "strategery", etc. etc. Thanks alot for taking the time to reply to some of these things in your blog

The last couple days I have been playing a lot online. Had a couple HU sessions vs takechip again, this time I got the better of him. He does some monkey monkey stuff 200x deep, but I think he is very good 100x.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2768344 – this is an example of him getting a bit out of line with deeper stacks. I just don’t see much of a reason for him to shove, but ship it my way.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2768375 – I guess its not so standard, but it was kinda cool so I felt like throwing it in there. Couldn’t make up a hand for him so I clicked middle button.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2768390 – the oop float 4tw. Don’t worry, he got his stack from someone else before I sat.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2768668 – just for fun I limped the button with KK and flopped gin. That’s always fun. See? Limping button made me 100x as much as raising would have. Its obviously correct to limp KK every time in the sb.
on to some 50-1 6max hands..
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2768365 – some 50-1 6max was running also, so I was obv playing. This hand started my evening off JUST right.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2768405 – this hand was really annoying. I was planning on betting turn so I could fire any river, thinking he had something like 88 99 etc. when he shoved river here, I wasn’t really sure what to do, I mean, he should be bluffing here with his 88 99 stuff etc some times, but meh, I still don’t think I like my call vs this player, I don’t think he will be making too many moves on me.
I have been playing a bit of plo lately too whenever games run. I really like the cap games because I think people monkey around too much, mess up pf sizing, and basically get it in terrible too often because they think ‘meh fk it its only 40x, not even a full stack who cares’. Its pretty sweet tbh, and I feel like I play super great 40x stack plolol.
Today I played the 2500 6max NL event. I lasted about 5 minutes. This is the first tourney I actually felt like I played bad in. I usually feel like I play amazing poker, but today I just didn’t have my head in it and monkeyed off in 2 spots I definitely shouldn’t have. Hopefully I can put my game face back on for the next one. I’m probably playing the 1500 plo rebuy on Wednesday. I am really unhappy about getting binked in the 5k rebuy, I had high hopes for that tourney.
Phil Galfond is HU right now with a 5 to 1 chip lead against some guy I have never seen, so hopefully he can lock that up soon for a cool ~850k and a bracelet. Phil is an awesome guy and is on the short list of people I won’t be angry at for winning a bracelet. Normally I would be jealous and think to myself ‘man this guy really sucks, how come he got so lucky and ran so good to win. What a pisshead.’ But not Phil, he really is a great player and a great guy, so I wish him all the best.
I am kind of looking forward to the series winding down. I feel obligated to play these tourneys, because the wsop is only around once a year, but I really don’t enjoy live poker all that much. I spend a lot of my time there trying to think about other things so I don’t get bored and monkey off my chips. I also spend a lot of my time there trying to ignore the other players, as most everyone just sits there and says retarded things. I used to try to interact with everyone and banter with people and talk about hands and what not, but I find it’s easier to focus and I play better poker when im just sort of in my own world focused on my play and doing things correctly.
Something else im looking forward to when series winds down is more time to do mma stuff. I have only been to 2 classes for muay thai, but I really enjoyed it and it kicked my ass super hard. I also want to start doing some jiu jitsu stuff, but the times the classes are setup at xtremecouture require you to wake up entirely too early, and I end up rushing around if I am trying to get to a tournament. Once I am done with all of this I would really like to start taking a couple classes a day, and really spend a couple months getting into it and decide if I want to work out harder. I don’t really ever want to compete, but I want to get in really good fighting shape and feel comfortable with my abilities. Maybe be a sparring partner for some of the fighters. It is just something I enjoy doing I think, I really like the competition, and it’s a pretty amazing workout.
Anyways, I am going to go cut some strawberries and sweat the rest of Phil stomping this kid HU. Cheers.

Last few days have been pretty meh. Hasn’t been a lot going on online, I haven’t really done anything in tourneys, etc. Last night I went to del friscos with Joe, Tony, and his girlfriend, and we had a pretty fantastic meal. After that we headed over to Moon at the Palms, BBJ had a table in a semi celebration party for him finishing 3rd in the 5k NL event. I busted that event about 5 minutes in, so that was good for me. Moon was pretty fun, lotta people there that are fun, I even played some drunken blackjack with genius, bbj, pbdrunks, and gassitt. I got destroyed, bbj and genius won a bunch obv. I suck at blackjack, and haven’t really played stupid pit games in like 2 years, and am never going to again, it’s a huge waste of money.
I got in at like 6am, and slept till around 1, but didn’t feel great so skipped my workout. 5pm was the 5k plo rebuy, which I had an awful showing in last year getting binked in a pot for chip lead right after the rebuy phase. Today wasn’t much different. I was only in for 10k total, I didn’t do an addon, I had 62k at the end of the rebuy period, and didn’t think it was worth 10k more to get 20k in chips.
Anyways, I had a pretty good table, and like.. level 5 was 300-600 blinds and I was down to about 55k or so. UTG opens to 2k, gets 3 callers, and I look down in bb at AAK9ds, so I make it 10.3k, and everyone comes along. Flop comes down 866 with 2 spades, and I have nut spades, so I just stick it in. Chris ‘JESUS’ Ferguson sticks in his stack, and I have him covered by like 3k; the rest fold. Avg chip stack at this point is prob 60k or so, and chip leader was around 250, and this was prob for top 5 in chips. Anyways, he has T975 rainbow, and I was actually ahead zomg. Turns out I was in pretty sicko shape and was 71.5% to win, but he banged off a T on the turn and a 9 on the river just to show me he could hit it twice in a row.
I was pretty unhappy, but I was only in for 10k, so it wasn’t the biggest deal ever. I was really hoping to do well in this tourney, I feel like I am a pretty sick tourney player, but I keep getting in giant pots for tons of chips as a big fave and just losing repeatedly. It is very important to win that first big pot so you can fade a couple others in the future, but it just hasn’t been working out too great thus far. I am not really discouraged, just slightly annoyed, as my live results don’t really reflect how I feel my game is. Anyways, Durrr was in for like 100, and only had like 35k at the break after double adding on, but I think he is one of the chip leaders now so hopefully he can do well.
I just made some pasta, which actually turned out pretty good. I use the organics marinara sauce, with organics whole grain wheat spaghetti, and lean ground turkey breast for the meat part. I add a fair bit of garlic to it, and it tastes pretty solid, while being a much healthier alternative to regular spaghetti and meat sauce. I’m watching some blue planet, which is basically the water only version of Planet Earth, and enjoying my spaghetti, so its not a terrible night at all. Tomorrow I am going to wake up pretty early and try to get a good workout in, then possibly start watching deadliest catch. I have heard great things about the first 2 seasons of the show, and am looking forward to starting it. I am not playing another tourney until the 2500 6max, I think its on Monday, so tomorrow should be a nice relaxing day. Good luck to everyone still in tourneys.

My wife and I have come to the conclusion that we are so fascinated by it because we know there is no chance in hell we could do the job if we had to for more than like an hour, and these guys go at it for30 hour stretches at a time.

It seems like every meal you have is 'pretty fantastic' or 'pretty amazing'

June 12, 2008

Day before yesterday I went to Naked Fish with Taylor, Ezra, Daut, Eric and my housemates and we had an amazing meal. Taylor made fun of me, but I loved the fried ice cream dessert, it was probably the most amazing thing I have had in a very long time. It has like, pound cake crust around the ice cream, then is fried, and has chocolate sauce on it; truly heavenly. Taylor better watch out, I don’t think he has been to the gym in a while and that sort of dessert could be dangerous for him. I also learned a lot about jewish culture (weirdos) from ezra, and made fun of him for being a sellout that would eat a shrimp for 250k. Apparently his heritage is only worth a lambo. A few of the guys went out to a club or something afterwards, but I was feeling kinda tired and went home.
When I got back there were some pretty dece 2-4 cap plo games running, and I managed to run pretty good and win about 80k before games broke. Had a couple coolerish hands, lost a couple flipish stuff.. but overall it worked out v nicely. Biggest pots I lost were in cap for 16k each,
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2745609 – pretty standard 60/40 here, I have been trying to play KKxx hands a lot slower pf than I used to, and I think I like it. This isn’t the nuttiest of nut flops, but its still pretty solid.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2745614 – pretty standard here, 52/48 on flop, not a good flop at all, but I don’t think I can do anything but stick it in, pot is pretty huge already, im lucky I wasn’t up against a set or a pair+str+fd or something, but I lost anyways so it doesn’t really matter.
And won..
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2745624 – biggest of sesh was a cooler, which is always fun, I love getting it in when they have like 8% equity in plo.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2745628 – second biggest was cool spot for me, a lot of ppl prob bet get in the flop, but I feel like it plays better to take a turn off. Luckily I banged off gin and held up vs the set and str outs.
This morning I woke up at like 830 and went to my first Muay Thai class. It was a f***ing beating. My lungs felt like they were going to collapse 10 minutes in. For those of you that haven’t jump roped in a while and think its easy, I challenge you to go outside and continuously jump rope at a normal pace (not super fast, but not slow as balls) for 5 minutes. I feel like I am in average shape, but this really made me want to vomit. We would jump rope for like 2 minutes, then do 20 pushups 20 situps, jump rope 2 mins, 20 knee to chest jumps/pushups/situps, jumprope 2 mins, 20 squats/jumps/pushups/situps, then jump rope 2 mins more. This was the warmup, and I looked at the clock and struggled with the realization that I still had 50 minutes to go.
My old roommate in vegas, Dustin, went with me and we didn’t really know what to expect. There were 9 people in our class, including 2 girls, aged probably between 23 and 30. Our instructor was very cool, and could kill me 10 times over before I would even hit him. After warmup we did some shadow boxing, which also wore me out, 2 5 minute rounds. Upon finishing, we went over the basic punch/knee combos since Dustin and I were the newbies in the group. I am not sure what a standard class does, but he said they would have a back to basics day since we were jumping into the intermediate class with no prior training. How nice of them.
After this we did bag work with heavy gloves. Heavy gloves suck, and my arms will feel like lead tomorrow. I also scraped/bruised my knees really bad since apparently I have terrible form kneeing the heavy bags. I guess I sort of don’t take the right angle or something and it scrapes against it getting a rub burnish type bruise, which is quite painful. Hopefully I can callous over soon and suck it up and stop being such a pussy.
After bagwork I thought we were done, but we had like 8 minutes left, and he said go to the fence, so I expected to do some stretches to wind down the day, but NOOOOOO we were doing sprints. I haven’t done sprints since high school other than my nominal attempts at HIIT which I gave up on since I felt like I was going to die every time I did it. Well, today was no different. I started off racing dustin and beat him like 4 times in a row, while everyone was lagging behind, so I felt like a champion.. however on the 5th one I realized my mistake as my legs turned into lead and I started heaving a bit. We did like 12 total, not sure distance but probably 35 yard sprints down and back for each. At the end we had to sprint continuously for 30 seconds, and I almost fell over, but kept thinking about how stupid I would look if I passed out during my first workout. After the sprints I was praying that we were done, but we had to finish with 20 knee to chest jumps for good measure.
Upon completion, we all came together and shook hands for a successful workout. After that I immediately collapsed to the mat and started unwrapping my hands. I ended up sitting in the bathroom on the cold amazing tile for a good 15 minutes feeling like I was going to puke, but never got around to it. I was running late so I left after a good bit and headed home. Overall it was a very successful workout and I can’t wait to go back.
I was late for the 5k NL event, so took a quick shower, made a protein shake, and jumped in the car and sped to rio. I showed up about 45 mins late and walked in with Theo Tran, who has been on an absolute sicko tear this series, final tabling a couple events and having massive chips in seemingly everything. He told some cool stories about strippers as we walked in, and mentioned he hadn’t slept from the night before. I poked some fun at him for playing, but he apparently has some prop bets since he is in the running for player of the year wsop, and is trying to play all the nl events. I think hes a funny kid, so I wish him luck.
Anyways, I get in, register, and show up to my table only 50 minutes late. At my table is twin caracas, neverwin, 10lb bass, john juanda, and eric cajelais. I pick off neverwin in a small pot early on, and am up to like 11k chips when this hand comes up.. Fwiw I am not sure if twin knows who I am, but he has threatened to slit my throat online, so I have no desire to mention that I am bebop on stars. We have quite a bit of history that involves me raping the shit out of him for his entire stars roll over and over, and him threatening death upon me while I call him a nasty Venezuelan drug dealer.
Anyways, I raise it up utg+1 to 150 at 25-50, and get 3 callers. Twin makes it 775 on the button, and its back to me. I actually considered folding here since its an annoying spot to play, I thought about calling for a bit, then decided twin was a monkey and could have 68o, so made it 2100. Everyone folded and he thought for 20 secs and called. Flop came K43 rainbow, and I checked. He bet 2k after about 10 seconds, and I thought for ~15secs and shipped it in. Don’t really know what else to do there, and he beat me into the pot with KK. I was sad, but still had 700 chips left. I stuck around for an awesome 6 hands and shipped in the Ad at 50-1 for 650 chips. Neverwin looked at me and was like ‘u wanna double up?’ and I gave him a toothy grin so he stuck in 650 to call, and flipped up A6. I hadn’t seen the other card so we sweat it out but unfortunately it was an offsuit 3. It chops a lot, but he flopped a 6 and that’s all she wronte. Hopefully he goes on to win and can pay back all the people he owes money too. He did a 5k last longer with 10lb bass, so hopefully he wins that too.
After bustoing we went to naked fish again because I was sad and wanted some blue fin toro to cheer myself up. It was as amazing as usual, and I left feeling like a fatass as usual. I didn’t order any fried ice cream this time though, in an effort to feel semi healthy. On the way back I stopped at best buy and picked up age of empires 3, since Joe has been bugging me about buying a computer game he can beat me at, and proceeded to stomp his soul in our first game. To be fair he probably went easy on me to build up my mentality to crush me later, but those games have yet to come.
After playing, there were some more plo games, patatin0 playing trex313 HU, so I sat hoping to continue my hot streak. I failed though. Like 10 minutes into the sesh Durrrs retarded ass sat directly to my left on both tables. This is the first time in a while I have played at the same table with him. Usually I am not comfortable playing this high and when I do I try to avoid him, but apparently he felt like it was a good spot and decided to take my money. When I get back to texas I am having the neighbors dog take a dump under his covers in case he ever comes back.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2745712 – this was one of first pots I played, pretty standard I think with the stacks in action, a case can be made to just call pf but I juiced it up, got it in 59/41, and got godmoded by the run good king.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2745715 – second biggest pot I lost, it was just like.. one of those spots where I felt like he had sooo many draws here. He instapotted river, and this guy doesn’t really bluff rivers THAT much, but he also likes to never slowplay, so I felt like he had T8 like.. 5% of the time, so I made a pretty thin call. I am not a fan of making big calls in plo because I am seemingly wrong every time, and I think it’s the biggest leak of most nl players switching to plo, but I felt like this was a good spot. Unfortunately I was terribly wrong.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2745717 – obviously the next biggest one I lose was to phil, who obviously played his hand fine, just kinda sucks that Im drawing dead on the turn when im 65% on the flop. Meh, whatever.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2745720 – I did win with this wrap though, was 55% here so I flipped good.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2745721 – managed to flop gin in this big rr pot, but actually had pretty unfantastic equity. Pata almost folded turn too, or at least banked for a good 40 seconds or so before calling. Would have been soooo sweet if he folded, he was actually 42.5% on the turn which is pretty ridiculous. PLO is a silly silly game.
Anyways, I didn’t finish down too bad, but games broke pretty quick so I didn’t play too long. I just got back from grocery store and made spaghetti with organic’s whole wheat spaghetti, organic marinara sauce with a bit of garlic, and some ground turkey breast. It actually turned out pretty great, and I am super happy that it is tasty. I like cooking for myself and always feel better when I eat food that I cook so I know exactly what goes into it.
Got the 10k HU coming up on Friday, and I am SUPER excited about it. I fully intend not to get ownd in round one this year, and expect to go pretty deep. Hopefully I am not disappointed, but who knows. Tomorrow I am going to take it easy, get a workout in in the morning, maybe hit some golf balls in the afternoon, and just sorta lay around and rest up for the 10k HU. Maybe I will go to fast lap. I had a bad experience there last time which I won’t get into at the moment, but perhaps later. Needless to say I think its best that I haven’t been there in a few days so they can forget who I am, I don’t think they were impressed by my driving ‘tactics’ in my previous trip. Laters.

Today I played 5525 HU hands vs FLIP okeHer at 25-50 deep Hu tables. Tonight I am going to naked fish. Right now I am drinking a jack and coke zero. We don’t have any regular coke. It still tastes good. OK so I don’t really know what else to mention, so I will start on the hands now. Maybe by the time I get done writing this ill throw up a graph. Basically I started off down like 40k but ended up up like 15 or so HU, and made another 10 on the 6max tables before they all broke, so I guess it was a dece sesh. Its never really fun to run 4 buyins below equity in a couple hours.
I’ll start off with the biggest pots I lost, then get to the fun ones I won. GASP.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2735179 – sooooo ya I dno what to say really other than yay life. I was ALMOST even vs him when this happened, so I was pretty unhappy. It’s the biggest pot I lost.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2735184 – This might have been bad.. im really not sure, he fires a lot of barrels, I think calling turn would have been better, but I felt like he had AK AQ with a diamond stuff a lot and it was ok. Meh.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2735188 – this hand I just felt like a retard. He really does fire a lot of barrels with all sorts of crap, and I felt like he was good enough to check shove a hand like T9 or JT that he was firing another shot with, since my hand looks like complete crap too I shouldn’t be able to call etc etc, but apparently when I try to think on a higher level I get destroyed, so I am going to just play abc poker from now on.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2735194 – yah, standard for me, he really likes to push the shove button on the turn with his draws, which works out for me if I just run slightly better, but whatev.
Ok now for hands I don’t suck at life during
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2735199 – normally, with like.. 100-200x stacks I don’t reraise A4s type stuff pf, but these kinda hands go up in value a lot the deeper you get. I feel like I always stomp people that rr this kinda stuff with shorter stacks, but I think its good deeper. Flop is debatable I guess, but I felt like peeling one off and banged off gin, and again, he likes to get it in on the turn with draws, which again, works out well for me.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2735210 – this is a pretty sick cooler for him, got a pretty sweet river card so I was happy about this.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2735215 – this might be debatable, but he snap overbetshoved river, and I kinda just snap called and felt like he had crap, it worked out so yays.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2735224 – this was towards the end of the sesh, and I think he was a little tilty. It was a pretty agro match I guess, but its def nice to get in with 100% equity.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2735230 – this hand was kinda weird, I wasn’t really sure what to do on turn, so I check raised and said shit really loud when he snap shoved, but luckily I was up against a, GASP, combo draw again.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2735241 - +1 for calling with AJo pf instead of reraising.
Ok, so these were all the big pots, not really sure what else to talk about. It was a fun match, we have played a bit in the past and I think we are about event. I feel like I should have a pretty dece edge on him, but who knows. Hopefully we can play a few more matches in the future. Now its time to have a few drinks and go to naked fish, then possibly wake up and play the 1500 plo in the morning. Cheers.

Soooo I played this silly 5k shootout event a few days ago, and insta got down to half a stack. Somehow though within an orbit I knocked out 3 people and had over half the chips in play with 5 left. From there I proceeded to hurricane off my chips at an astounding rate unmatched by any before me, and finished a disappointing 3rd in the first round. I think I made a couple mistakes, I 4bet shoved A4s over a 3 bet from UHbigTex and he had AJ, and I also made a gigantic call down when I was wrong against myrabbitfoo, who I found out won the 15k Bellagio back in December or January or whatever. Whatever, I think the call down was still good, but I won’t go into it here. Normally when I make calls with bottom pair or worse for gigando pots Id say I am about 75% to win. This time I was wrong, oh well.
After I bustoed I headed over to watch Durrrr’s final table in the 10k mixed event. Apparently, as I was walking over, he went from third in chips to chip bitch and doubled up like 3 of the mid to short stacks within an orbit. Sounded a lot like my last hour. He ended up bustoing  shortly after, for a 65k cash or something. After all this we went to yard house with a giant group, which turned out to be a gigantic mistake. We were waiting on a table for nearly 2 hours, and when they sat us they didn’t have room for like 4 people so we had to squeeze super tight to fit. Fortunately yard house is amazing, and we all suffered through it and had a great meal.
The last couple days I have been playing a bit of plo. I am getting more and more comfortable sitting deep, though I still start off with a short stack because I think I play it very well, and can get quite a bit of equity doing it that way, as well as limiting my variance a bit. There was also a 50-1 NL game that got started, which doesn’t happen too often, so I was happy to sit and play for a bit.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2726447 – this is probably one of the sicker hands I have played lately. This guy was the soft spot I presume since I had never seen him before, and it turns out that I can still own souls at NL, just not in lIve tournaments. He had super weirdo timing, and yes, a flop bet call is abnormal, a turn call is also abnormal, and a river call is generally terrible. I guess the combination of his sizing and timing made me call, it just felt super weird and super weak, i really didn’t think he would play a king like this, and didn’t think he was good enough to value bet a jack or whatever this way, so I went ahead and called down and felt like a world champion.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2726495 – sometimes steve just goes into complete monkey mode. I am not really sure why, he is a super smart guy and generally a very good player, but occasionally I guess tilts or something and starts repotting every hand. He actually had something semi decent this time, and I managed to lose the 58%er. Normally AQQ4 isnt really something one should be able to get in pf in this spot, but I felt his range was big enough to allow it here.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2726789 – now.. honestly I am not really sure about this hand. Pf is definitely sketchy I think, but like, he really was reraising everything, and I felt like I could get it in on good flops. These are pretty unfantastic queens, but I dno, it might have been bad pf, but whatever. Flop I wasn’t super happy with either, but I felt like I had 11 outs a lot, and had good pot odds for that. Turns out I was 93.4%, which made me pretty happy. I didn’t really expect to be better than 40, but I suppose I can live with 93.4 in that spot with third pair.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2726869 – again, this is cap plo, and im not really a fan of his rr pf, or his flop play for that matter. This might be one of the flops he can get away from seeing how he has a gutterball and that’s it. Anyways, I held up, and then the game broke. I like steve a lot irl, and im not even sure its him playing on the account, but some of the stuff is just pretty brutal. He is up quite a bit in plo though in the last couple months, so maybe he knows something I don’t.
Last night I went to naked fish again, which is quickly becoming one of my favorite spots in LV. Its very small, and often times has a long wait, but they take reservations so you can call ahead and set stuff up, or eat at the sushi bar which usually has a couple seats. I am a huge fan of the blue fin toro here, it is the best I have ever had (which isn’t really saying that much since I have never been a connoisseur of sushi, but alas, it is amazing). I also really like eating the unagi hand rolls, which come set up like an ice cream cone and are just pure deliciousness. Also if you check it out, get some garlic tuna, as that is also fantastic.
I am not really sure what my plan is today, I am thinking about going to fast lap with a bunch of people and crushing some kids at go karts. A bunch of people went skydiving today as well, but I just didn’t really feel like it. I went skydiving 2 years ago and thought it was pretty cool, but it wasn’t something I would really care to go spend half a day doing again, though I do think it’s something everyone should experience in their lifetime.
As far as tourneys, I think the next one im playing is going to be the 5k NL event on the 11th. I am not really interested in playing too many of the smaller events as I think they are kind of a waste of time. I think live tourneys in general are sort of a waste of time, as more money can be made online, but I still have this fleeting hope of winning a bracelet and dragging down a big tourney, so I will continue to play them a bit. GL to everyone doing wsop stuff in the next few days.

Wellllllll I am adding this part in after the fact, as I wrote down a lot of the hhs I had today and wrote a little bit about them, so am just kinda throwing an intro in now.. I played the 10k mixed event which was awesome, and im pretty unhappy I didn’t do better. I actually busted in the NL round to mastrblastr who ownsauce called a raise with 93s in the sb to my utg raise and binked off trip 3s. Its all good though, tom is second in chips in it and I have a piece, so should get even on the event thru him. Yay tom for being awesome at tournaments. I hope he final tables and wins so everyone will say how awesome an all around poker player he is. The media’s perspective is so out of whack, it’s truly unbelievable. If you run good for 5 minutes you are considered amazing, even if u win HU by winning like 44 vs KK aipf with equal chips, they will always say u outplayed the other person etc. It tilts me but that’s just the way it is. Anyways, here are a few hands from my sesh today.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2718116 – did win this big one though, not sure im a fan of his play, but im not too sure its terrible.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2718162 – chufty doesn’t really like to do the lose a pot vs me, its kinda annoying, but he cant really fold after betting flop.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2718208 – im really not sure why he check pots this, but I guess its ok, obviously I lose though. Im not doing so hot winning these last couple days in plo. Its really annoying, but I guess its part of the game.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2718211 – kinda unlucky for him I guess, he has been owning me was good to get one back.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2718299 – I mean.. Its so sick on turn as im betting I say to myself, ok im folding to a raise he has QQ, then I click call. Then on river, I say to myself, ok im folding to a bet he wont follow thru with a bluff, then I click call. I fucking suck.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2718325 – I was gonna be really unhappy if I lost this one
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2718386 – some 2-4 NL ran today, was a bunch of short stacks but I really love stomping david. I am 100% sure he hates me irl, so it makes it all the better.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2718461 – yayaya run good, such a sick cooler, I always feel like I suck at poker when I need to do that to win.
So at this point I am about even on the day I think, and decide to go to Naked Fish with Joe, Craig, Dani, Ben, Tony, and Dustin. I really love this place, and have been getting some amazing sushi. We ran into a bunch of poker players there, it seems to be the spot to go hang out at midnight for a bunch of ppl.
Anyways, I got back like 10 mins ago, and there were still plo games running so I ran some stacks thru. Ran pretty good and finished up a quick 20 or so, so that was a good cap off on the day. I think I finished up overall decently. Today was actually one of the longest days of online poker I have played in a while, and I put in over 6 hours. I don’t usually play long sessions anymore, but whenever  get stuck I put in retarded long hours. 6 hours isn’t really a lot I guess, but normally my sessions last like an hour or 2 then I get bored and quit and go do other things.
Tomorrow is the 5k shootout event, definitely in the top 5 for my favorite events. It is a huge luckfest, but if I manage to run good and bink it off I can talk about how I was a sng pro for a couple years once upon a time. I haven’t really played sngs in forever, but live fish are soooo bad late and just fold everything, so you can really just shove like a nutterball and stomp them pretty good, should be lots of fun. I am tired and am going to sleep. yawn.

June 04, 2008

Well, yesterday I played the 5k mixed event and it didn’t go so hot. Ended up getting it in AK vs AQ vs QQ and bricked it off, though if I won it would have given me avg stack. Oh well. As far as tourneys, I am playing the 10k mixed tomorrow, which should be pretty ridiculous. It has 8 different games! I know how to play AT LEAST half of them, so I think im in good shape.
I ran my 30k up to 45k on ub from superuser, and then decided to play some more today after golfing. I will post some hands.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2708085 – niceeeeeeeeeee riverrrrrrrrrrrr. So this was a good start.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2708251 – this one was just gay, piejay does the neverlose vs me which is kinda annoying. Oh well.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2709153 – this hand was cool I was hovering over the call button on the river too, which I guess is sick, but not really I dno.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2709172 – this was on ftp, very opponent specific, but I really liked my bet.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2709268 – more UB riggedness. I was happy to get some HU action, which I don’t really get on other sites, but I don’t really have much money left there. Stuff like this doesn’t really help. Oh well.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2709284 – its also unreal how well stuff like this works. I have found that gay bets are the bestest things in the world.
Anyways, overally it was a pretty shitty day. I ran my ub account down to 3k, then BOTted it, and ran it up to 12 sucking out on everyone. Finished the day down a bit though, so not super happy right now, but I feel like my attitude when I lose is 10395829018509235 times better than it used to be. I am kinda trying to be goofy when I play so I shrug off losses more, and smile a lot so I can trick my brain into thinking its ok and its just funny and not actually rigged! It is amazing how well smiling works, I run so good when I just smile and laugh while playing, though my roommates think I am on drugs.
I went to an amazing sushi place for dinner tonight, its called Naked Fish and is off Flamingo and Decatur. Honestly it is better than nobu, and is like 1/3 the price. I will definitely be eating there more and more whenever I crave some sushi.
Also, as far as basketball, we got some ppl together 2 nights ago and went to 24 hour fitness around 1030. We got in some pretty great games, but as soon as I started breathing hard and felt like I was getting a good workout in, some nazi lady came in and kicked us out at 11. Apparently a couple nights ago there was a big fight and they shut down the bball gym at 11 now, while leaving the rest of the place open. ORLY? Needless to say we were very much life tilted, but what can ya do. That’s all I got im boring, laters.

Well, I just got back from busting the 10k PLH event. I got 14th for 41k. I am very disappointed I couldn’t make a stronger showing here, but whatever. I managed to reap some revenge on patrik Antonius on the bubble today, and that made me really happy. I did a sicko 3 barrel vs him and got him to fold on the river for all his chips. Card player obviously fucked up the hand history, so let me correct it so I can toot my own horn a bit. Also, I decided to introduce myself to him and we talked about the HU match for a while. The hand I folded AJ he said he had AJ or AT and didn’t know what to do, so he bet. I felt kinda ownd, but AT is literally the ONLY hand I can beat there, and he is never bluffing. He told me ‘well u know sometimes I show up with 65 there’ and I laughed in his face and called him a liar, and he laughed too agreeing, so that was fun. Anyways to the hand..
Ryan raised cutoff to 15k at 2.5-5k, I called button with AJ, patrik called sb. Flop came 944 rainbow checks to me I fire out 26.5. Pat calls, ryan folds, and turn comes down an offsuit 5 for 9445 board. Pat checks I fire out 42.5, and he thinks for about 30 seconds before calling, and he has 110k left. The river brings the Ks, for K9544, and he checks again, so I ship it in. I have him covered by prob 60k or so. He banks for literally 15 minutes. ACTUALLY 15 minutes, and then finally folds saying god I know im going to regret this or something, and I insta flip the AJ and he looks v upset.
Like 2 hands later im in the BB and pat raises utg to 15k, so I call with KQo. Flop comes down T98 and it goes check check. Turn is a 3, and I bet out 26.5k, and patrik calls pretty quick. River is another 3, for T9833 board, and I bet out 41.5k into patriks 70k stack. He thinks for a while and folds again, and I show him KQ to really salt the wound. I am pretty sure he hates me now, but it made my day a lot better showing him back to back bluffs. At this point I really felt I was going to win the tournament.
I ran my stack up to like 520 at peak, but then for the last 3 levels didn’t really get anything to work with. Blind vs blind it folded around to me in sb vs some aggro young euro guy, and I limp folded twice in a row to his insta raises. Next time around at 5k-10k I limp he makes it 30k insta again, and I make it 90 with ATo. He ships in 150 total and I call he has JJ and I brick it. From there I really just didn’t even play any hands, I kept getting 52o shit, and every time I raised with a nutty hand like T8o, 3 ppl would reraise me and everyone would show aces.
My busto hand I was down to like 150k at 8k-16k, and mike ‘mcnitty’ sexton opened to 45k in cutoff, and I looked down at AKo. I honestly would have folded TT and AQo there with my 9.5x stack (I might have had 140k I don’t remember). I shipped it and he snapped it off with KK obv. Flop came 532 all diamonds and I had Kd, but I bricked it as per norm and that was that.
I feel like I played absolutely amazing poker today and yesterday, just didn’t get to run good in the end. I put myself in great spots, made some good reads and some good bluffs. I didn’t do any spews at all, perhaps I should do more. I don’t really know what else to say other than I feel like I played great. Hopefully next time It works out a bit better and I can win! Anyways, 41k isn’t bad for 2 days, and I now have THREE live tourney cashes. I am on my way to becoming a tourney pro!
Ryan Young is still in, he won a bracelet last year and is a good friend of mine, so hopefully he can dominate this and get his second. He has a bunch of chips and is a super solid player, so I am excited to see how it turns out. Patrik is still in obviously, he has an uncanny ability to make people shovel him chips, even if he runs his stack into the ground folding the best hand to amazing players such as myself (hah im funny). Next event im playing is the 5k mixed event nl/limit, hopefully that goes awesome. GL to everyone playing events over the next few weeks. Later.
