What's Your Edge
I picked up three buyins last night in a solid session and a bit more today over a short span. The tables were pretty garbage tonight compared to how soft they've been lately, so I spent more time playing Wii and preparing for the spring semester (in that order) instead of poker.
Scary moment this morning, I woke up to my phone ringing and I as I roll out of bed, my leg completely buckles and I go down hard. I'm laying there with my knee throbbing but eventually figure out everything is ok. Something has been wrong with my knee since flag football at regionals. No real pain while walking but anything active where I put weight on it, I feel it kind of twinge and hurt a little.
I'm not sure if my knee gave out this morning or maybe my leg was asleep, idk. But now my ankle hurts like a bitch cause I rolled it busting my ass. Very frustrating as I really never have been injured playing sports growing up. I took a baseball in the front teeth in Little League (no real damage) and I missed one game of football my senior year when I pulled a back muscle, but that's it. Now intramurals are approaching and I hate being at less than 100 percent, if I can even play.
Anyway, here's a few HHs from my last two sessions.
Retarded spot preflop, shipping it prob fine too, but apparently the K doesn't scare my opponent. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3675804
Life tilt if he hits here. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3675808
Standard along with binkin the river. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3675813
Against two weak players in this spot, I mix it up by just calling as I'm putting the donk bettor on a weak hand and I don't mind if the other player tags along. Turn completes J10, and I didn't see too much reason to raise, no real card sucks for me on the river and I pick off his bluff. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3675817
From last few sessions:

I haven't had time to put in my December results, I did miss a good chunk of the month with vacation and Christmas, etc. So about 20 days of grinding and I wasn't able to crack 30k hands but the results were still good.
December graph:
.jpg)
I've gotten off to a fast start in 2009, as I played a few sessions New Year's Day for a small win but I ran hot last night for a $3,085 profit over 1347 hands.
The tables were really soft, even for a Friday night and I 8-9 tabled for a bit before scaling back. I didn't feel like I played that well at first as I was a bit distracted but things settled down and I went on a huge card rush and took advantage of some strange plays. Here's a few HHs.
Couple losers, most standard but here's a tough one deep stacked. Villain is 30/12 and has been passive for the most part. I haven't seen the turn donk lead yet, calling feels like the normal line but there are a ton of bad rivers, none much worse than what hit. Great odds to call and I felt I had to in case he is block betting worse 2 pair or something else. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3664696
Time for some winners and this hand really got things rolling. Villain is 60/3, I've got the worst seat but he was still bad enough to stick around. Turn is tough but I felt jamming was correct being OOP, he still calls with worse and there are some tough river cards to make things hard or kill the action. I'm pretty sure he slowrolls me here, he didn't hit time bank but he waited a good while before calling with the nuts. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3664705
Straight forward hand and it's just a question of how many outs he has before I shove. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3664722
I'd almost never call this 3-bet this shallow but the SB was playing 71/5 and I was pretty certain he was coming along as well. He didn't but I still won the flip like a champ. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3664736
My image was really inducing some crazy stuff l guess. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3664744
I really felt villain never has boat on the river given his timing on the turn but then he snap shoves on me and I don't know what to expect. Maybe my turn lead just confused him and he takes .1 seconds to turn KK into a bluff. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3664749
I had been pounding on this guy and I pick up a big hand with perfect timing as I knew he was about to explode. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3664767
Dec. results and 2009 to come later. I didn't play much today, I had a good session with a student (Ryan) earlier and then had some friends over for dinner and played some Wii. I picked that up a few days ago and have been pleasantly suprised to find out how much fun it is. I only have a couple games and I've been playing Mario Kart mostly but I'm sure I'll spend hundreds of dollars before it's all over with all the old school games you can download.
We went and saw "The Day the Earth Stood Still" which was solid. I wasn't expecting too much but it was decent, probably worth seeing, it's just so hard to make good endings to those types of movies. I'm getting ready to put in a session, good luck at the tables.

Poker has been fairly average since I returned from vacation, I think I may be up 3-4 buyins over the last few days. My last couple sessions have been swingy as I profited $2k on Saturday followed by droppin three buyins on Sunday and winning that back yesterday.
I haven't been running as hot as I was last month and earlier in Dec. but it's still shaping up for a solid finish to the year. Here's a few HHs from my last several sessions, mostly at 400nl.
Losses first, almost all were on Sunday where I was stuck $2k quick, battled back to -$200 then finished down 3 buyins, I got stacked a ton, just couldn't win flips for the most part.
This was a deep one. Villain is weak, I've seen him a lot lately and he takes weird lines and makes random bluffs so no real read, I thought he was worse than he actually is at this point though. My bet sizing is close to good, I would have liked $68 instead of $65 on the flop, which would have let me bet a bit more on the turn. River is blah, but I'm not going to fold so either shoving or maybe betting $100something to induce/get calls from random hands is good. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3651594
Pretty standard against a 47/8 I think and I can't hold against a big draw. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3651601
Similar scenario with me drawing this time, tricky, tricky players and their preflop shenanigans. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3651604
Most everything else the standard flips, couldn't seem to beat the weaker players in pots though.
Some winners:
Fun hand, K high is good in a reraised pot? http://www.pokerhand.org/?3651613
Flop gin, turn seems to kill action but I guess it didn't bother this reg. Not sure what he made of the min raise, wanted to make it look like a cheap bluff attempt. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3651621
Checking back turn as a lot of hands complete and getting CRed wouldn't have been fun and I can still get a big bet in on the river. Villain block bets so easy raise. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3651637
Mixing it up against a reg with a flopped set, obv not standard 4-way but the other two players are weak and I felt like giving them an opportunity with the dry flop. Turn is a great card for him to follow up on and I'd expect some players to be firing river again on this board texture, as I would in this scenario on occassion. River sucks as the only draw completes. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3651656
This guy has been owning me last few days but I actually stack him here. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3651666
Lot of options here against a reg both pre and post, this line just happened to work out. It'd be interesting to see if he shoves 88 to a 4bet pre. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3651674
I had these two super coolers back to back as soon as I started my Sunday session. Gross stuff.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?3651692
http://www.pokerhand.org/?3651694
My favorite hand of week, only a 50bb pot but it's not every day you get to one-out somebody. Ups. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3651705
I want to put in a session tonight and tomorrow afternoon before heading out for NYE and calling it a month/year. I'll get some graphs, results up soon. Until then, good luck at the tables.
Dec 27, 08 15:33:50
looks like a great trip... and your girl kind of looks like sophia bush... well played
Dec 28, 08 14:31:07
thx for the compliments, Heather's not too keen on the poker analogies but she did appreciate the Sophia Bush comparison
First off, nice work CR, the blogs looks 10 times better. I haven't been able to test out the usability characteristics but at least aesthetically, things looks really nice. Obv this happens the day I head out of town for vacation.
It's been pretty hectic lately, I rolled back into town late Christmas Eve or actually very early Christmas morning from our vacation in Antigua. Which was awesome by the way, just an ideal vacation at a sick hotel, view, food, activities, drinks, etc. I'll have pics and report tomorrow sometime.
I saw the movie "Four Christmases" a few weeks ago which was hilarious, Vince Vaughn really carried the movie by himself for the most part, something I didn't know if he could really do and it'd be a good film, but it was. Today felt just like that.
Christmas just isn't the same like it used to be when you were a kid, it was easily my favorite holiday growing up for obv reasons but once you get older, move away from home and have your own family, it's a bit different. Still fun, but not the same. It was more like "Six Christmases" today. I got home at about 2 am, woke up the next morning after driving four hours from Charlotte and hit the road again with stops at both sets of Heather's grandparent's homes and one of their random next door neighbors.
Funny anecdote, at one grandparents' place, the neighbor's little boy, probably 6 years old or so got a remote control airplane, one of the nice ones that looked fun to have. I've always semi-wanted one myself. Anyway they are clearly not for real little kids. But his dad was helping him out and they couldn't get it to take off in the grass as it clearly needed a smooth surface like a road to get going. They gave up for a while but as I was about to leave, I saw the dad take the thing in his hand and start it and then launched it. One big loop and then BOOM, back crashing into the ground. It didn't look good and as they walked up to the kid just collapsed on the ground and started making some weird ass bawling noises. Yes, I'm a bastard for laughing, but it was just funny to me and I wasn't alone in finding this humorous.
Later on, we stopped at Heather's friends house for a bit then on to my parents for dinner (steak, shrimp, corn on the cob, good stuff) then to her parents for a long exhausting day.
No poker lately, although I did have a few good sessions before I left for about a $3k win followed up by dropping a buyin at 600nl. I had a real solid $10k+ start to the month before leaving for vacation and I'll try to get a little more action in, but probably not much before the end of the year.
Tomorrow should be a fun day, I'll probably go on a Best Buy shopping spree. I recently got a new TV that hasn't been put up yet and I have a Sony Blu-Ray on the way. I need to pick out a really sick receiver and surround sound and get to work on that. I think I'll also pick up a Wii, it's always been fun everytime I've messed with it at a friend's place. Also, my Xbox 360 has the Red Ring of Death so I have to get a repair done and will receive my fourth console. What a joke.
I'll post some good stuff on how things have been going lately soon, I'm assuming screenshots, pics, etc. will now be easier to get up here. Good luck at the tables and hope everyone had a good Christmas.
The tables were littered with weaker players last night and I usually don't play a lot late on Saturday but I probably need to sacrifice some time if it's usually like that. Another thing I noticed is the recent update on FTP where the "single-click deposit" if now offered. It's obv not a big deal for me, but seems awesome to induce an influx of fish or at least making it easier for them to stay at the tables.
I typically 4-6 table but I was playing 8-9 for most of last night and handled it well and finished with a $3,100 win over 2290 hands, running at 22/18/5. Here's a few HHs.
I had just one real big loss where I got KK in vs AA against a 2p2 reg 200bbs deep. Others were pretty standard, a couple silly hands from villains but that happens.
Perfect turn card against a weak villain. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3584859
Villain is a reg but def aggressive enough to making a 3-bet on this flop, especially with him repping a small range, it's just matter of whether making my 3-bet size to induce a shove from a worse hand or making it large to get more FE. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3584867
Similar scenario with regards to bet sizing, I went smaller on this turn, even though a big raise may be ok too, it just depends on the villain and his hand ranges for the most part, and what they think of your range whether you make it a min raise type size or something over 3x as I do both here and there with made hands and bluffs. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3584884
Big flop but no real reason to be pumping it up at that point. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3584896
Standard, his actual hand is unexpected but didn't 3-bet flop just in case he's got an air type hand. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3584901
Um, yeah. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3584905
Not quite as bad I guess. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3584908
This is though. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3584921
Cooler for the villain but not sure how he gets to the turn. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3584936
Villain draws his stack away but luckily picks up a piece so I get the little bit he has left, would have been interesting to see if he shoves the rest if he whiffed. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3584948
Fairly standard, elected to check back 4-way even with mid pair and nut FD, and got some value after hitting the turn, river is a clear bet but getting CRs there would have sucked. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3584965
Fun stuff in a reraised pot, needless to say my image was good for a while after this and I get to see his oop calling range too. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3584990
It was crazy how often I got it in with excellent equity, but not this one so here's a nice suckout. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3584997
I've got a few more days before my month is essentially over poker wise so hopefully a big finish is in store. Good luck at the tables.

Nice session, The 2/4 games have been pretty juicy the last week or 2. Been fun playing a few sessions w/ you.

">http://www.cruceros-en-el-caribe.com/images/antigu...Just booked a week long vacation to Antigua. We're leaving from Charlotte on Dec. 18th and will have five full days down there. We're staying at the Sandals Grande Antigua resort, all-inclusive and I'm looking forward to going diving for the first time. If anyone has been there, let me know if there's something we have to do before leaving.
In poker news, I've come to the conclusion there is definitely a "cashout curse." I don't think I've had any kind of significant downswing in the slightest in over two months, but obv lost the last few sessions since cashing out for the trip have been blah. I will do some research comparing cashout dates to the following sessions in HEM and will report back, I'm only half joking.
Dec 12, 08 22:33:44
it is nerving at first but definitely worth it.
I've been grinding away lately with nothing to write home about since Dec. 1, winning a couple buyins here and there for the most part with no big losses. It's been a complete lack of variance, no hot or cold, just average poker. I did pick up three buyins at 400nl last night in a solid session to add to a successful December so far.
I did have a really crappy session a few days ago where I just kept getting put in ridiculous spots and made some frustrating folds. Eventually I got tired of folding though and then made a couple bad calls. Fortunately I won a 400bb pot from a fish to book a small win.
Here's a few HHs from last night's session.
The dreaded turn check minraise. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3563387
The turn was not my friend last night. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3563400
Interesting hand in a 3-bet pot, position makes things so much easier. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3563405
Owned by the sick limp UTG, rejam over my 3bet, but awesome metagame strategy < luck. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3563413
Looks like the blog stuff will be fixed early tomorrow morning which is nice. Hopefully we can post pics and vids with no trouble. I have a final exam due by tomorrow night, after that it's smooth sailing for December. I am taking two vacations at the end of the month, one before Christmas and one small one with friends to Atlantic City afterwards. Not sure of the first destination, but probably somewhere warm, and preferrably baller. Good luck at the tables.
Dec 10, 08 04:10:56
Hand 1, do you ever fold trips no kicker there if you have a good read? Obviously you have a big hand but still is a lousy spot most of the time.
I took the first day of the month off as I had to cram for a final in my MIS class, but the "run hot" continued from November as I had a nice session Dec. 2, profiting $2600 over 1400 hands at 400nl. I didn't run so hot the following day, running into a lot of coolers, but was still able to grind out $800 between 600nl and 400nl.
All my losers were fairly standard, I felt like I lost a million bucks with QQ and KK, as everyone was turning up KK and AA it seemed like. With all the 4-bet and 5-bet bluffing in the games today, just kinda sucks.
Here's a few winners from both sessions.
Pretty tough spot, didn't put on J10 for a few reasons but he was weak enough to maybe call the flop with a a two-pair, but I didn't think folding was an option here. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3540905
A lot of people ask what's your favorite situation in poker and I think this hand has to be mine. Whenever you 3-bet or 4-bet light and flop gin with complete rags against an obvious monster or a reg just flats a big hand to a 3 or 4-bet with AA to run into your 74o AKA the nuts. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3540931
Slightly overbet this turn so the river is an easy shove a bit deep, villain is a weaker player and I'm fairly certain he's got a big hand or at the very least AQ or AJ, which he isn't folding. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3540952
Interesting hand against a reg, flop is monotone which is actually good for me as it gives my opponent a chance to out level himself I guess. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3540961
Hand against 2p2 reg, defends my 3bet early in the session super light, but his play seems standard postflop. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3540977
I'm a station. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3541321
I have one more exam left to take care of in my accounting class, then the rest of the month is poker, at least before Christmas. I've already shipped the A for MIS, time for one more. Good luck at the tables.
Dec 5, 08 04:04:37
Hand 2 is dirty! Ive actually started wondering and trying to figure out a way of playing against the small 4bets. I mean you are getting such good odds, esp when a little deep.
Also, Ive found IhaveSeizure to be kinda a spew monkey tbh. Im LH-DALLAS on there, say HI next time! :)
Dec 5, 08 12:09:27
you played these hands very well, but it helps to run ridic hot lol congrats
Usually a blog hiatus is the result of a bad run at the tables or just being busy in other aspects but fortunately I had a pretty nice month of poker and booked a $20k November. I don't put in a ton of volume, so it's a nice milestone for me.
The month was going solid but a went on a sick heater at the end and pulled in 10k over the last five days. Overall I played about 20k hands at 400nl and 10k hands at 600nl. I feel really good about my game as I've made some slight preflop adjustments and I think my postflop game has been on point almost every session I've played lately.
Volume is always as issue and I hear that a lot from other players at the start of new months in hopes of logging a ton of hands. Check out these threads for some motivation from a couple of the best at it.

Just insane the drive and dedication, it truly is a gift. I like the freedom poker gives me and I like hanging out so I'll never go to this extreme, but I need to meet somewhere in the middle.
I read that the new blog software is almost ready to launch, which is partly the reason I haven't blogged much, I'll probably pick it up a bit whenever that gets done. Still can't post screenshots without a ton of hassle so I'll just post a few of the bigger pots I've been involved in lately.
Well pokerhand.org is screwed up for me right now, so here is some pots that are probably super standard with no analysis and have zero educational value whatsoever. Good luck at the tables.
