ahh back before rap and hip hop got so commercialized. I'm still a tupac guy but this song is good. I was just listening to old school nas stuff today before I got on cardrunners... takes me back
There is this local venue in the city of Pontiac (near Detroit) usually reserved for indie rock groups, hip hop and old fashioned rock and roll. It is pretty quaint and well designed in an old warehouse downtown. My friend decided to put on a combo show of local hip hop artists and improvisational comedy (I take classes and perform at a local improv club here in the Detroit area). The idea was the rappers would take a suggestion from the audience and do a freestyle rap. Then, based on the content of said rap our troupe would do a bunch of scenes based on that. It ended up working out OK but there was some serious crossover action when we realized DJ Pauly D was putting on a show in the next room over (the place is pretty big). For those of you that don't know, he is on a show called "The Jersey Shore" and while I don't know the specifics having never watched it, from what I gather it is about people who wear a lot of gel in their hair and have fake tans. For reference, here is a picture of Pauly D:

The line outside the club consisted of tweener girls in full on skank wear in 10 degree weather. I have seriously seen more clothes on the girls at the Spearmint Rhino than I have here. Every single guy after that had the patented porcupine hair do with an Armani shirt or table cloth looking button up on with at least three buttons undone to expose their pecs. All this was accompanied by the worst trance type music you have ever heard and lots of talk about cocaine and "fucking hoes." The funny part was our venue shared a hallway with theirs for the bathroom so their was this eclectic mix of indie rocker/actor types and the decay of Western society intermingling. I went to take a piss a couple times and there were always 4-5 Jersey types sitting in the bathroom staring me down hoping I would say something so they could intentionally misconstrue it and start a fight.
The funniest part was I thought these guys were some type of myth like the Yeti or Sasquatch. I figured there were a few of them that existed solely on the Internet, but no, apparently these guys are everywhere.

You've just experienced what it is like to live and/ or go to a bar in South Philadelphia...and let me tell you this: your thoughts of "wow, these guys are total douchebags!" is 100% on the money. Lol.

Other than that, not much has been going on. I am headed out with a couple friends on a tour of the southwestern United States in a couple weeks. Our current itinerary includes the Grand Canyon of course, the Hoover Dam, random Vegas excursion, meet up with some friends in Los Angeles and then maybe head down to San Diego if we have enough time. If you have any suggestions leave them in the comments. I'm open to anything really.
Also, if anyone can tell me how to enter links in this damn thing with just a text label instead of having to list the whole link I will give you an Internet cookie.

You should also go to Bryce Canyon and Zion on your tour if you get the chance.

I miss Chappelle's Show, so many great skits lost in time. I often think about the same thing with people who have died too young - James Dean, Chris Farley, Heath Ledger, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain. On the other hand, who knows? Maybe, from an artistic perspective, it was a good thing. Maybe Hendrix would have reinvented himself as a heavy metal guitarist. Maybe James Dean would have been relegated to working off Broadway plays and questionable sequels because of his cocaine habit. Maybe Cobain didn't know how to play more than three chords and the band would have made one too many albums.

At least Chappelle isn't actually dead. So there is always some chance the show could come back.

Not quite what I expected when I clicked on this post but I like it. Although I think Chappelle Show was more like Michael Jordan going out on top (pre-Wizards comeback), I think Chappelle himself said in interviews that it would have been very difficult for him to continue to produce material for the show that reached the high standard of quality he set for himself. But yeah, great show...
I love Weezer and always have. They always felt to me like they were about as "real" as a rock and roll group could get and Rivers Cuomo is a great front man. Also their lyrics/music doesn't sound like most of the insufferable hipster garbage out there (sorry Alkaline Trio et al).

I share the same music attorney with Weezer, the guys in the band are very cool dudes. You seem to like music, give us a listen let me know what you think.

Pretty ridiculous that just eight months ago I was working an office job that I hated for $12 an hour. I don't want to give any particular numbers but I am looking at a six-figure year for 2009. That probably seems a bit ho-hum these days - who isn't making six figures playing poker? But considering I never even thought I would make 30-40k a year with my trusty liberal arts degree from a state university I have to say I am quite pleased especially since I was staked for part of the year and had a full-time job until April as well.
The holidays have also been going quite smoothly as I did most of my shopping online this year. No long lines, no homicidal thoughts while trying to wade through a department store. I almost accidentally bought my girlfriend an engagment ring when I was just looking to get her a nice diamond ring. I was clued in when I said I would buy it and the counter girl chimed in with a "congratulations." Yeah I am smooth.
The Braminc Faarcyde stable has been going pretty well, not as smoothly as I hoped but can't complain with the results so far. We have eight horses and are looking for more, so if you are a winning player with decent results visit this 2+2 thread and email an application to bramfaarstakes@gmail.com . Make sure to post in thread if you email an app (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/135/staking/bram...
Other than that, not much going on. Michigan weather sucks and I want to move to California ASAP as possible. If I put up a big 2010 I will probably put a down payment on a house out there as long as the tax man doesn't rape me too bad and I can convince my family-obsessed girl to part ways with this climate. I just made three consecutive videos for CR so I'm guessing they will be sick of me for a bit but I plan on doing a multi-tiered leakfinder series next. Stay safe if you are traveling, take care everyone.
Probably the chillest beat ever committed to vinyl. RIP Dilla and Baatin.
Complete entryI have adopted a unique pooping technique that I heard about through a friend. It's called the AC Slater, and when my friend introduced to it to me as such, I knew exactly what it meant. Concordantly, I now sit reverse, facing the "upper deck" of the toilet. It's kinda awkward at first, and if someone sees your feet facing the opposite way under the stall door, they might be alarmed. However, you can rest your head on the top of the upper deck when tired. Plus, you feel trendy and a little dangerous while you're doing it. Also, I'm thinking of developing a way to put some ropes with handles into the wall above the toilet, so that way you can really anchor yourself in and lean way back so as to get a different angle on the bowl. Very innovative.

I am in the OR reading this and am literally in tears. Everyone is wondering what the hell I'm crying and laughing about.
