I got a few questions regarding the strategy section. In the specific example that you outlined, what if the turn fills the heart draw or the straight draw or even both? This type of player that you are talking about are certainly going to bluff these cards as they squarely put you on AK or AQ like you said. Do you just flat a turn bet and fold to a river bet as your opponent can possibly think that you checked behind with something like AhQh? What if only the straight draw gets there on the turn? What do you do then to a turn and river bet?
I think in this specific example your range is a lot more defined to the villain where as the villain's range is a lot less defined to you and that makes playing later streets more difficult. If your opponent holds something like 86 and a offsuit 5 falls, would you be able to get away from the Tens on the river?
Thanks in advance for the replies and I have really enjoyed the video blog series, especially the strategy discussions.

.....and if you had no pair, no draw, you would continuation bet the flop, correct?
Jun 13, 08 15:02:09
I agree with Mark for sure on this...but I think it works best for players like him, who are pretty good TAGs. Checking behind TT on this kind of flop can often get villain to spew on later streets or pay him off with a weaker pair, while minimizing Mark's chances of getting valueowned by a set. Also, it allows him to reduce variance a tad by being able to see another card come off before committing more money to the pot.
The reason I like to bet TT vs someone like a 24/21 (rather than a good TAG that would be something along the lines of an 18/16), is because someone who is laggy will:
1. bluffraise
2. c/c with weaker pairs or peel the flop with weakish draws
3. possibly float you OOP
In conclusion, Mark is describing a WA/WB spot in reraised pots, vs in this case, a laggy villain. Vs these types of opponents, who are willing to make plays, I cbet the TT 95%+ of the time and stick it in on the flop, simply because ppl love to play back at me with weaker hands because I'm very aggressive. I think if Mark were vs a TAG, checking behind this flop isn't a bad idea occasionally either. I do like Mark's play, because from my understanding, he's a TAG. TAGs play very straightforardly most of the time, so checking behind this flop is allowing him to rep exactly AK or AQ, so it will allow a LAG to do something crazy.
I really like the strategy and life video blogs separate- PLZ keep them up!

HEY GUYS!! Haven't got time to do another video nlog, cos im off on my hols, bu i'll reply real quick to your Qs here!
IVERSON: TY for the comments, the only thing is, rather than looking at players' preflop stats, I based my decision to slowplay the tens based on his postflop tendencies, which are that if you show slight weakness, he'll come after you strong. So, it's really their postflop tendencies that count rather than how many hands they play pre... it often gets to easy to group players into TAGs LAGs and fish and disregard the subtleties.
SHADOWSURPRISE: Firstly, i think i mentioned this in the original blog, but I had the ten of hearts which makes the play slightly easier, regardless though, the point about this play is that it DOES make future decisions harder, it DOES increase the pobability of getting outdrawn (which are both generally bad) but the value from doing it is so great that it outweighs these factors IMO! For example, If a o.s. 5 came on the turn there's no way id get away from a straight, but having said that in a RR pot is 8-6 really part of his range?
OK guys, my next blog wil be in Marbella, if you have any further questions I'll try and answer them more thoroughly in my video blog!

I enjoy the video blog, and I may steal the same idea when I start pokering it up again.
A friendly suggestion-
Plan a little more of what you're going to say, because the blogs are a little long and I have ADD :) (as prob do many other poker players) so they can be a little shorter
GL and keep em coming. I'd like to see a HU vid between u and Ted Maul or something?
This is my first video blog, take a look!!!

Nice blog. Keep it up! It`s gonna be interesting hearing more about your sessions with Jack R. Have you had any coaching before?
Been playing much better since my comeback and results have been good, esp at my main game of 3-6 6-max on Party which is my main game so Im really pleased, Im up ~$4k since my comeback running at 12ptbb/100 which is obv v good, but more importantly i think i am playing v well! Anyways, keeping these short, cos Im still at Uni, will start with proper updates, pokertracker screen shots AND my video blog!!! when i get home tomorrow!
Other updates are...

On 14th July I go to Vegas! AWESOME!!
Jack Richardson (Ive mentioned him before v strong 25-50NL player) is gonna start coaching me v soon and Ive recorded a vid for him, but need to record the audio of my thinking for it!
That's bout it, really excited about fun times to come!

Since my epic return Ive had mxed results!! Ive lost alot on FTP and won a lot on Party! I just always seem to run so bad on FTP and I hate that you can see the cards face up as soon as youre allin so you have to sweat!
Anyways Im thinking of starting a video blog?? How cool would that be, I'll record me chatting about random stuff on my camera and then put it on youtube and post the link here in my blog? What do you uys think?? Anyone who regularly reads my blog let me know if you think this would be a bit different and good for you guys?
Cheers,
Mark

I think that would be a good idea. Either way give it a go. As a result Im sure you will get more feedback which can only be a good thing imo.

There is no doubt you are a great player. I hope things pick up for you when you get back into it. Looking forward to reading the blog.
Ray
This is what's been happening to me for last 2 days:
Running insanely insanely insanely insanely badly!!
This has been going on and off for well over a month now and I can't for see it stopping anytime soon. I lost 10 buyins to day against the worst WORST WORST!!! players to have ever player 3-6 on Party!!
Im surrounded by guys who play 68/2/0.6 and they suckout time after time after time!!
I mean its ridiculous absolutely ridiculous it seriously feels like noone else can ever have run this bad ever and carried on playing poker!! What can I do? What can I do??
Everyday i get sucked out on time after time 3 outs, 4 outs, 2 outs everyday!
sooo much injustice in poker, I hate it I hate it so much!
I mean when will this stop? Can I please have 1: 95%, 80%, 90% hand hold up?? once?? just once per session? or once per month!!!
Im not moving down EVER! because the games are sooo juicy!! so going broke is a serious possibility! If that does happen i will let you guys know (so you can laugh at me) and you have my word I will never play poker again!
May 13, 08 14:11:05
Marc I'm sorry you're running badly. I cannot stop laughing at that drawing/mspaint!! HAHAHA YOU HAVE SKILLS; ANY MSPAINTS I NEED, I WILL PM U FOR THEM!
May 13, 08 15:47:44
Obv awesome mspaint! Congrats on mspaint-skills and gl with getting ur moniez back :)
I've recovered pretty well these last few days from my mini mid-life crisis where I was playing horribly! I really think I've played so well, these last few days and despite a few bad beats (nothings ever perfect) Ive had v strong results!
Ive really been hammering 2-4NL on Full Tilt, - the NL ($4) (6 max) result - there are some really poor players at those mid limits on FTP and Its been fun playing really laggy and tilting people!
Anyways, If this shitty UEIGA bill gets revoked its gonna be all systems go for sites like FTP and with any luck more moneys for my pocket!
On other notes (not that you really care) revision for my exams is going pretty well and my results in Jan were v strong averaging a 1st (dunno what that means in US terms, but its the best degree basically) so there's no reall pressure on me, but i still wanna do well!
GL ALL
