What's Your Edge

Talk a lot.
The reason for this is because it can and it will come in handy in the future. If you are talkative person and you are chatting it up w the people they will become accustomed to speaking with you.

When a big decision comes up and they are already used to speaking with you they are more likely to answer a question or talk to you when you have a big decision to make when they have made a big bet.

We all know you give away information when you open your mouth and that is exactly what you want your opponent to do and what better way then to butter them up beforehand.

I really felt like today I played some of the best poker of my life. I closed out all my shit and just focused on my games. I only plyaed 6 and that helped as well. I didn't have a huge day or anything. I won 4 buyins (very good, but nothing really to write home about). However, I just felt like i was playing really solid. When I pay attentino it makes a big difference in th emedium sized pots. The small and big pots are usually pretty standard. The medium pots you need a feel for the table to make the right decisions. I made a lot of correct decisions in those spots today. Typically, I don't do very well in the medium sized pots. I honestly feel like I am making big break throughs with my game right now. It feels great. I've won 6 buyins since the day I lost 7 buyins, so I'm back in decent shape for the month.

Took a big hit today playing PLO. Ugh, PLO. I love the game and I feel like I have an edge, but I take some serious hits there at times. I think I lost about 12k there today. The thing is that's not that big of a hit playing 10/20, but it feels shitty because I got it in good most of the time. However, you never have that big of an edge.

Good example of not having a big edge in a big pot.

I've been seeing how well CTS and Jman are doing up there and it gives me the itch again. If only I could always just grind and stay away from the quick money.

Anyway, I think gambler is stuck about 4k on the month and I'm about the same. Is it a race to see who loses less? I hope not. I guess I'll go back to grinding some 5/10 for awhile and make sure I win this bet. I've promised my roommates I will win it, so I don't want to fuck up now.

I'm traveling this weekend to Michigan with my family and won't be playing at all. However, I am spending the night at home tonight with my family so I may put in a long session tonight. If gambler has a good weekend, I'll probably try to grind pretty hard next week. I'm kind of getting the urge lately to do an all nighter from midnight - noon. I did that once before and really enjoyed it. I haven't done it in awhile and it's a great way to make a ton of money.

As I am trying to make my bankroll grow again I decided to take on the challenge of heads up limit this time.  I usually go through certain time periods where I just play a bunch of a certain game, ie MTT's 6max nlhe, 6max lhe sit and gos and so on.  Right now I am really getting into Limit Heads up.  I am playing on Vegas 24/7 which is an absolute skin and am having immediate success.  I find the people at the limits i am playing (.5/1-3/6) people have huge fundamental flaws.  Either folding to much, raising to much or just calling way to much.  The great thing about this game is that it seems you can find this flaw within the first or second decent sized pot you play with the person.  I do have some problems with this game though.  First, people just buy in with 10 big bets.  I can lose ten big bets in two hands really easily so I can either basically breeze through an opponent or be playing from behind right away.  The second thing that bugs me is the hitting and running.  The only losing sessions I have had so far is when two players hit and ran me for 1 small bet and 10 big bets.  I later saw the person who hit and ran me for 10 big bets with about 1500 dollars on the table which makes me wonder why he would do that.  I feel happy to be actually quit because someone is big enough to admit I am better than them.  I feel like this person will beat 95% of the people out there because of the pure discipline.  I am going to try an display my stats so far.  Take in mind the short sample size because i am only playing one table at a time.  It will take me ALONG time to get anything decent as far as sample size goes

Hey guys.  I'm happy to say I'm running great this week in poker.  The 100/200 and 200/400 PLO games have been great on both Stars and FTP and I played a lot on Monday and Tuesday.  It went very well and I had my best 2 day stretch ever financially, winning over half a million dollars.  I'm very excited and feeling great about my PLO game, but also realize that if I ran bad in a few of the big pots I could be close to even, but I have a nice roll online now and the stock market is giving me no reason to withdraw, so I'm just going to keep playing and hope to keep playing and running well.

A big chunk of my winnings came from a HU session vs Ilari Sahamies, aka Ziigmund.  Ziig is a talented player, but is more prone to tilt than anyone I know.  Lately I've run well vs him and he's just been on huge monkeytilt because of it.  I booked a 325k win in this HU session.  Here are some of the big pots:

1  Pretty standard hand, not sure if I like his line though.  If he's flatting with top 2 on the flop I'm not sure why he shoves a straight completing card, since that was the only draw on the flop.  I feel like he should either flat the flop or check/fold turn, because he literally beats nothing but air by the turn, although he does have the open ender as well, so equity is good vs bottom set.

2  I definitely luckboxed this one.  I don't always 4bet preflop but Ziig was playing 45/45 from the BB, I limped some but he still 3bet probably 40% of the time I raised, so my 4bet is fine although it definitely increases variance.  Not much else I can do on the flop, luckily I hit my 30/70.

3  Only pot >100k I lost, kind of unfortunate but he's actually a small favorite on the flop.  I'm 63% preflop though and got over 38% of effective stacks in there.   PLO is a sick game.

4  Biggest pot of the session, lucky to run good here, I'm a slight fav on flop though at 52%.  Again showing how sick of a game PLO is.

I obviously ran pretty well that session but I feel like I have a big edge vs a tilty Ziig.  Hopefully we play again soon.

In other news, I drove up to Ithaca today with my sister and went furniture shopping with her and my friend Bruce (cornellxc).  I bought a living room set and bedroom set and they're being delivered Thursday, which I'm very excited about since I currently have almost nothing in the house.  I'm moving in Sunday and getting this taken care of will be a big relief.  Here's a picture of the living room set, it's the 2nd from the bottom on the right side, althought I got a different rug and lamp, plus a love seat that would be on the left side.  Again I'll put house pics up once I'm settled in.  I ordered a pool table yesterday too which should be awesome, not sure when it ships but I'm looking forward to it.

That's all I got, good luck at the tables and in life.

-Brian

I ran about as bad today as possible. I did have KQcc on a Tc6c2sJd board and managed to get 100 big blinds off Brandon Cantu when I hit the flush on the river in the first level. Too bad the only hand I won was in the first level. I later had 96 on a 9d8d6 board where the other guy had a fairly unlikely T7, where I lost a big pot. I then doubled with KT against AT for a whopping 10k pot in 200/400-50. A few hands later, a few people limped, Cory Carrol raised to 2600 and I pushed for 12000 with AA and he called with 88. It obv comes xx8xx to busto me. Sometimes it just isnt to be. Hopefully I fade the wpt poty draw.

I'm currently listening to the Counting Crows like it's 1994 and I just scored some of that bomb ish from Humboldt. I'm not sure I ever realized just how good these dudes are. I have some live show on my ipod set to repeat, and I'm going on 6hrs now.

Tonight me and Gold are going to a bar to watch the Padres. It's a big night for the Valley, as a buddy of his who he played baseball with back in the day, just got called up to the big show. All of you Brewer fans better get excited, Ryan Braun is here to stay.

October 30, 2007

I finally had a winning day.  I was running about as bad as possible, losing every a lot of pots, I only got stacked twice, but I played some big pots only to have straights beat by flushes and river taking a lot of money from me.  My biggest hand of the day.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?1647108

I have another lesson with TrevRob coming up.  I am still having some trouble getting away from big pairs when the board is screaming at me not to continue....Trevor sent me some articles, one was the Buluga therom which was a great read.  May seem obivious to some, but I found it very helpful.

I do not know if it is ok to post other forum information on the site, if I broke any rules I am sorry.
