had a very meh sunday. if not for a couple satellite wins it would have been terrible. my heart wasn't in it, as i was cheering really hard for the jets. GOOOOOOO JETS!!! jets v. vikings would be so sick but jed tells me it's a pipe dream. i wish i'd bet on the vikings, i didn't think for a second dallas was going to win, but i'm not much of a sports bettor.

i wasn't gonna play poker tonight, but then i read on 2p2 that it's turbo night. very excited for turbo midnight madness. :)

a guy on one of my forums put together our results for 2008 and 2009. 2009 was horrible for me, and the year ended with -3% roi. that's mostly b/c of my big score in the 200k, and it would have been a sick bad year otherwise. in contrast my roi in 2008 was 35%. my avg bi went down from $47 to $31, and i'm on track for it to go down a lot more in 2010. hopefully i can get back to the 35% roi, which would be very nice.

the ?/ key on my keyboard is stuck down, as of right now i'm still able to type those symbols but it's not looking good. i'm also having mad pute problems. when i type on facebook and some other sites (not CR, thankfully) there's about a 10-15 second delay. HEM is also not opening about 50% of the time, and skype crashed on my earlier today. wtf!!!! i have to call dell, but first i must psych myself up, b/c calling dell is an exercise in frustration, and it's not like i have something specific i can tell them is wrong, it's just that my computer is slow and buggy.

inspired by david's latest blog post about translating greek i'm re-reading an old favorite novel called secret history by donna tartt. it's holding up, and i'm getting into it all over again. it's about a small group of students studying greek at a college in vermont (based on bennington) and she sort of tells you the ending in the beginning, while the narrator winds his way through the story. i remember for years i would go into bookstores and ask when her next book was coming out, but i don't think she released her second novel until at least 10 years later, and ironically i still haven't read it.

next up is girl who played with fire. i loved girl w the dragon tattoo and had i realized that his (steig larsson) second book wasn't avail in paperback in the US i would have bought it in london, but sadly i only realized that it was "new" when i got home. b/c i'm not baller i checked it out of the local library. :) my mom is a (retired) librarian, and i practically lived there growing up. i have met tons of people who prefer to buy books and ~ look down on me for "renting" but most books i read i'll never pick up again. when i was in london i traded books w/ doyle's asst. and read a great book on the ride home (name and author forgotten) that i never would have otherwise read. now that i'm thinking about it i should add donna tartt's second book to my hold list.

i had to run to target today to return a broken lamp and ended up impulse purchasing seasons 2-4 of how i met your mother. we have about 2 eps left of season 1, but since bfriend is out of town this week i may finish w/o him and start s2 or else start season 1 of the shield. i am terrible at netflix queueing and big love will not be arriving later this week as i'd hoped. checking out in the loop which was recced in the CR forums, and paranormal activity is apparently no longer "long wait" so that's on its way.

"The Secret History" is great, but stay away from Tartt's second novel, "The Little Friend." It's pretty bad.
