What's Your Edge
I'm back.
That's probably the longest break I've taken from blogging since I started a few years ago. I just felt like I didn't have much to say. I know that isn't necessarily true, because I passed on blogging about the playboy mansion, some crazy HU plo sessions, etc. However, I just got tired of airing out my life all the time and I felt like my blog wasn't very good as of late. I also knew that when Vegas rolled around, I'd have plenty to write about. Well, I'm leaving for Vegas tomorrow, so that time has come.
The main reason I wanted to get a blog up today was because of an experience I had with FreeCreditReport.com yesterday. That site is a scam and I wanted to get the word out. I've had my credit pulled a few times lately because I recently moved offices, I'm about to move my apartment, and I rented a house for a month in Vegas. This got my interested in what my credit rating actually is. Everyone knows the freecreditreprot.com commercials. They obviously got to me, because I decided to use their site. During the sign up process, they asked for a credit card, which seemed totally reasonable since they probably need it to pull my credit. Luckily, Kevin informed me that the site was a scam, so I looked into it more. When you check your credit there, they secretly sign you up for a $15/month service. It's also a pain in the ass to cancel. I spent about 30 minutes on the phone yesterday cancelling. In the end, it only cost me $15. Don't use FreeCreditReport.com!
After Caroline told me that the Strangers was a good movie, I decided to go see it. It wasn't any good. This is like the 3rd time shes recommended a movie that I didn't like. I won't listen to her movie advice going forward. Basically, the movie was very predictible and just not scary. Then again, most "scary" movies are not good.
As I said, I'll be in Vegas tomorrow. I'll be playing a lot of poker and going out a decent amount. That means I should have some good things to write about.
Sorry I have a bad blog.

I've been waiting so long for an update. I'll have your t-shirt and sweatshirt for you in Vegas.

I just saw The Strangers yesterday and you're right, Caroline's movie recommendations do suck. 98% of that movie was incredibly boring.

I for one enjoy your blog dude. So many times I was going to say something in observer chat on FTP like "WTF Wiggins!"
Besides, if nothing else you should be blogging about our Cubbies. THIS IS OUR YEAR!!!!

LOL I got curious too and had just canceled yesterday. I'm so lazy, they had been charging me since like March or something.

Decent scarey movies from recent years would be Disturbia (not really that scare but great flick), The Others (with Nicole Kidman, I kinda enjoyed it, not bad compared to the utter shit that scary movies have been last decade), and The Gift (with Cate Blanchett, and Katie Holmes flashes her rasberries in it, pre-cruise katie). Also The Sixth Sense if you haven't seen it. Also decent zombie flicks like Dawn of the Dead, 28 Days Later, I Am Legend (alternate ending is way better), and the first Resident Evil (the second two were utter piss).

If you just saw the trailer of The Strangers, anyone could tell it was going to be garbage.

The service they're signing you up for will alert you when someone pulls your credit. I don't know about the company, so I'll take your word for it. But, I pay about ten bucks a month to be able to view my credit any time I want. I just bought my first place in January and want to check up on stuff...and it gets sort of addicting too. So, I think it's worth it just because I would hate to be a victim of ID theft. I use PrivacyGuard if you ever decide to do something like that. They make it easy to cancel too. I used to sign up for two months for a buck and cancel, rinse, and repeat. The cancellation phone call never took more than three minutes. So that's my two cents worth. ;)
If anyone has any good experiences with credit cards let me know. Also I've heard that you can get a Black Card if you put 250k on your amex in a year. I'm not sure if we could pull this off because a lot of our expenses are for things you can't put on a credit card (payroll, web development, marketing costs). I will get that card one day, though.

374 hands later, and down $186. Got coolered a few times and was cut bluffing on a big pot. Just terrible. Let my break even cycle continue...
I'm gonna spend some serious time trying to evaluate my game from my PT stats. I must be calling down too loosely or not giving enough ppl credit for their hands. But coolers happen and I'm trying to ignore them b/c they just put me on mega-tilt.
Thanks for reading.
My credit card was compromised over the weekend, so I wasn't able to pay for my CR membership this time around. And that's preventing me from watching any of the new videos. Arrrrggggg. I'm still waiting for my new credit card to come in the mail. Hopefully it'll come tomorrow night. Some idiots stole a bunch of credit receipts from some store that I made a purchase at and tried to use my credit card number and expiration date to buy some electronics. Thank goodness nothing went through for them. Those bastards can go to hell.
I put in a couple hours at 100nl and I walked away with $516. I'm happy with how I played today, and I did suck out once with QQ against KK. I guess I ran pretty well today too. I now have 20 BIs for 200nl, but I'm going to stick it out at 100nl for the rest of the month to build a bigger cushion for when I go back to the 200nl games.
Thanks for reading.
Well I said last time that I was thinking about possibly taking out a loan to be able to play 200nl but I have decided it is a dumb idea. I think that I need to come up the limits to prove that I am worthy of playing 200nl. On another note, I have found out that I am terrible at reading hands. I really need to start working on this so that I can become a better player. I don't give credit for hands when I should, and I give credit when I shouldn't. That is what I will be working on for a while.
played Isle fr 2-5 started very tight image gave me credit for oesd played as tp

Today I upgraded my account to gold membership. I feel like this was a smart decision based on my success of the last 8 months. I started learning cash games at the end of August 07 with just a 50 dollar bank roll. As of today, I have slightly over 3K in my FTP account and I credit my game improvements to cardrunners. I have been mostly a 10-15 hour per week player and wont really consider or be able to play more until I'm able to crush the 400NL games.
Oh well. Either I have a serious, but yet to be defined leak or I just run cold. I dont know, seriously. It´s not fun.
The ol 52.
I just dont give guys with 70BB stacks much credit, which they usually dont deserve.
One of the hands I actually managed to win.
This is so dumb, I can not put him on T9s when he somewhat min-raises me pre-flop with 50BB stack. Flop might be mistakish, but as I said how to put him on that hand I dont want to loose him and his stupid Ax.
N/C.
"So bad."
HAND OF THE DAY. To his credit he had 30% equity on each street. It´s not that I dont make hands. Oh boy.
Stupid halfstackers. Beautiful.
I guess I now watch today´s video where peachy is looking for leaks in 25/50cent. I´m still on the lookout for my own errors.

Hand 1: If you're raising, it should be a raise/fold, not raise/felt
Hand 2: Well played, but I def just call down with some frequency against bluffy/overaggro players (for pot controll/inducing bluffs)
Hand 4: If you're just going to stack off on the river, i like to do it on the turn because there are a ton of 2 pair hands in his range
Last Hand: Just 4bet it yourself. Calling the 3bet cold is pretty bad IMO
All other hands were played fine.
I have yet to win at Credit card roulette!

The weekend has been great although I was a bit disappointed that there was no live online broadcast of the November Nine. I guess I have to watch it on ESPN on Tuesday as I cant stand listing to it on radiob. Looking forward to it and am really rooting for Craig as I played against him a couple of times on FTP and he seems like a decent guy. I think it will be a very tough and long final table.
I played lots of poker this weekend and continued to run hot. I played a a very long session last night after watching W in the cinema. The movie is pretty rubish as nothing really new comes to light about Bush and Oliver Stone is just playing on all the funny moments Bush had during it presidency. Definitely cannot recommend it, my fiancee even fell asleep during it. Next on my list is James Bond, I have heard different opinions about it. After coming back from the cinema I loaded up a couple of tables and played from 10pm till 6 in the morning which turned out to be great although it was a bit too long. I really like to play longer sessions against the same opponent and on Saturday I played around 1500 hands against the same opponent on 2 tables simultaneously and winning 4 buyins in the process. This way you can really get your reads right and adjust appropriately. I read him almost perfect and have a good grasp how he plays. I definitely think I have a big edge on him and since he is a regular I played him again today on 2 tables and got him on tilt pretty quickly (through my reads) ending the session up another 5 buy ins. I am not going to post hands today as it is almost 1am here in London and I have to hit the sack to be ready for work.
Overall I won another $4.5k this weekend and am up almost $10k since getting back into poker. This is a very good result given that I only got back into it 10 days ago and played aroun 7.5k hands. I however also played a long session on 3 tables against another regular who is a bit more LAGish and ended up down around 4 buyins as we played quite aggressive and I made some thin call downs that turned against. me. Definitely have to go over that session and analyzw how I can improve my game against that opponent as I take pleasure in challenging myself and hopefully beating him up next weekend.
Otherwise, I had some after work drinks with my colleagues on Friday and it was good fun as everyone from the office showed up. Normally only the secretary and maybe one or two associates showed up. I showed off my drinking skills as 5 Long Island Ice Teas couldn't get me down. I however had to leave around midnight already as my fiancee was waiting at home and she was already a little bit upset that i stayed out so long without her :)
I had lunch with friends of mine on Sat and Sunday which was great fun as we haven't seen each other for a couple of weeks. We went to some really fancy restaurants and you can definitley feel that the credit crunch has an impact on retail and consumer businesses already as they were much emptier than normally. A taxi driver even told me that his revenues are down 25% already this year, largely due to the credit crunch / recession.
Pokerwise I really believe that I have the skills to play as high as 10/20 profitable and just have to make sure to keep my BR management in check and not move up to quickly. I want to have at least 25 buy-ins for any level I am playing and if I drop below that I will have to move back down again.
GL to you all and have a good start into the week.
