What's Your Edge

Just wanted to say thanks to Henry over at Full Tilt Poker. He has been very accomodating to CR and we sent some input over to him about the high stakes NL games. The short stackers are ruining many of the games, and within 1 day of us telling him we wanted some deep tables they added 40/80nl deep. This basically plays like a 50/100 game because there are pretty deep stacks on the tables at all times.

Thanks to FTP, we appreciate them taking our advice.

Just typed a may review. Got deleted. I know, I should type in gmail or word. Im really tilted right now. Just lost AA to 77 in massive 4bet pot 200BBs deep on J7xf. Lost all day, got coolered all over, etc. Guess I deserved it.

Today: -$1,163.54

May: $17,992.22 (not included ~900 from RB)

Year: +$33,787.02

Nice graph. You've been running sick hot anyway recently, so a small downswong is inevitable.

Main Event is getting action packed now and people are finally starting to make names for themselves. I'm hoping Adam White can pull through this and make a really deep run. GL to all remaining CR members.

I've been not feeling to well lately and it's honestly starting to get the best of me. I really hate being sick and it's happening at a bad time when it seems I have so much to do and take care of lately. I've been popping as much Vitiman C as I can get my hands on it seems.

I was railing Stinger earlier tonight while he was playing. He was doing decent when I left. He shot me an IM not long ago and told me he's playing in one of his craziest HU matches ever at $50/100nl. From the action I've seen, it's a very deep aggro match thats 800bb deep. Stinger is still up a few buyins, but has had a ton of swings in short times. It's a really great match to watch and I hope he comes out on top as he's been playing awesome against this player. As of now, he's up about $20k.

Also, I found Harrington on Holdem on Holdem 3 laying around realized that I never got around to reading it. I've started to read it and I want to score myself to see how I make out. This will then give me motivation to reread the first 2, and try to find a few leaks.

That's all for now. Hopefully next update will be a picture blog...

Aaron Been is currently very deep in the Borgata $5k Deep Stack Tourney in Atlantic City.  There are 12 left and Aaron has about 750k which is slightly above average at 10k/20k going into the final day tomorrow.   Take it down!

I went deep in the FullTilt $750k guaranteed tourney tonight, failing to run well late in the game to finish 70-something for a small profit.  I was also getting somewhat deep in the PokerStars Sunday Million at the same time, but again ran into some truly unfortunate situations for huge pots late in the game and again failed to run well when I really needed to run well.  It's really sad I didn't have a better showing in either tournament since I had really nice stacks in both at one point (esp in the Million -- I had a ton of chips for a very long time), but that's tournament poker for you...

My low-200's finish in the Million netted me almost exactly as much as the FTP tourney, so I guess I'm up a little on the day but I certainly don't feel like it.  Missing out on the big bucks in huge tourneys like these is very taxing on me, especially when I had the potential to go really deep in either (or both) tournaments.  I'm an extremely competitive person in all aspects of life, but that motivates me to further refine my game and stay focused.

I know I keep saying this, but it will eventually be my day for a big score in a major tournament...and I can't wait for that day to arrive!

Hey, if you believe it and if you work hard towards it, then there is more of a chance that it can happen. That's what I believe. Good luck.

July 25, 2008

Tonight I had a couple of students rail me tonight. I didn't charge them anything, I just saw them online, figured I was gonna play anyway, why don't I give them the opportunity to watch me?

Anyway, I'm just doing my standard thing, teaching, yadda yadda, and I had a sick hand come up that I just had to post about.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?2947251

In this hand, we're 200bb's deep and I was talking to my students about how you might want to flat here sometimes, since the stacks are so deep and you'll be oop against most of the potential callers, so you can get put into some tough spots. Well, sure enough he tries to put me into a pinch, and I'll be honest at first I thought about folding. But then I thought about it, and got to thinking: Well, his raise is really big. Wouldn't he want to keep me in/make me think I have some fold equity if he has a set? Also, the board is REALLY drawy, so he could be shoving any number of draws here. I doubt he has KK QQ JJ but he could've been getting tricky with deep stacks. I think it's pretty close this deep, but I finally decided: you know, I'm pretty aggressive, and I could definitely see him just putting me on some cbet here and thinks I HAVE to fold. It's a great spot for him to make a move.

So I call, and he loses and starts berating me, calling me a retard, asking me how I call that. LOL. I can't say it was too bad a play by him, it definitely took heart and it almost folded me, but I think he should've waited for a dryer board so there's no potential for me to put him on a draw whatsoever.

I expect my post about coaching to go up this weekend. I'm waiting on a couple more guys, but I think I have enough references to pose a convincing argument for my abilities as a coach.

Anyway, I'm out. Later.

So the 2/4 plo games on Tilt have been great this month, I'm really loving the 1/2 deep games too, lots of fish and lots of 1/2 players with no experience playing deep. I've played around 6k hands of 2/4 and about 3k hands of 1/2 mostly deepstacked but I don't know how to filter the 1/2 games for deep on poker tracker. I had a full entry written out but for some reason it dissapeared when I tried to save and I'm going out soon so this will have to do for now, I'll post some hands later.

Hi

Oh this was good. The biggest pot of my life! (BB size rather than ££) Over 840 big blinds!!

So, yeh, I decided to play the deep stack $0.15/$0.30 tables because there weren't many juicy $25nl tables going and the VPIP averages on the deep tables were through the roof. It's like the deep stack players have "implied odds" stamped on their computer screens and play all kinds of garbage assuming they'll get paid off for 200 big blinds. Of course, not many of them actually buy in full, it's a funny old game.

So the aggression levels were good. 3.2/1.9/1.22 for flop+ Seem to have got over the stupid bluff faze although that could be a bit of variance.

I do like the deep stack tables.

For now

Ben
