I'm pretty upset about the new video system not working on CR. Basically, a mistake was made to put it up before the holiday weekend and now we are feeling the consequences of that. No one is really to fault, it was just bad luck that it didn't go smoothly. I just hope we can fix it asap.

I am at my cabin in Michigan today. It's a big family renunion. My family is pretty crazy, but fun to be around. We are going to go boating today.

I will be back on CR later. I'll tell you guys some more about the place we have and what we did today.

I apologize for the video problems. Taylor is going ot be talking w/ our web guys today and hopefully he can come to a resolution so that the videos are working again.

I'm going to Missouri with my family for a day or two. My dad's best friend (who I think is my godfather, not sure about that though) has cancer and probably doesn't have a whole lot longer to live. He's been there for my dad pretty much his whole life so my dad wants our family to go down and see him. It will be pretty sad I am sure but I'm sure he will appreciate it.

My parents both grew up in Missouri so we have a lot of family down there. It will be nice to see the other half of my dad's family for a day or two, we only get to see them maybe once every 5-10 years or so.

Happy New Year everyone. Oh yeah, the Illini sucked today, good season though considering most of our talent are all underclassmen. Here's to hoping Mendenhall stays for his Senior year.

I'm lucky and have never had any person close to me die. Hope everything goes well down there.

Those were some pretty good applications - now I feel like mine was pretty bad. Damn. When do you plan to announce the winner?

So I have been gone from Vegas for the last week playing the wsopc in New Orleans and visiting family in Pensacola. All in all, it was a nice fun time. We played 3 little family sngs and I won 2 of them, which I dont really like because I want to run bad in the $10 games and good in the $10,000 ones...not the other way around. I also didnt get to work any, which I also dont like. I did get to spen time with family, which is always a good thing. The wsop is starting in like 5 days, so that will be as much work as I can handle for the next 2 months. I am going to try to play basically all of the holdem events and most of the stud8, razz, o8, and plo events, mainly depending on when I bust from the events. Hopefully things go well and I can put in lots and lots of hours.

Following Vegas all I've done is worked and relaxed.  Last week I don't think I went out.  Rather I watched the entire first season of The Sopranos.  What a fuckin awesome show.  Because I'm Italian I definitely appreciate some of the family oriented scenes.  What I can't relate to is Tony's "other" family, although at times I wish I could, and looking back to family events when I was a child, some of my relatives probably could.  I'm not sure if it's the fantasy of living the mafia lifestyle, but I'm hooked.

I went shopping on Saturday which is something I rarely do.  I'm generally pretty frugal and I much prefer saving money to spending, but I had to scratch the itch last weekend.  I bought a pair of Von Zipper aviators, a Quicksilver jacket, Billabong board shorts, and some cologne.  Yes, I dress like I'm 17 the majority of the time.

September was a great poker month, as I didn't have a losing day playing HU sngs.  I cannot say the same thing about October.  I'm running/playing rather poorly so I might take a few days off and clear my head.

We're hosting our training course this week, which means.....free food!!  I've had pizza for lunch 3 straight days now.  Two nights ago we ate at Enterprise Fish Co.  The food was pretty good.  If I were to recommend a seafood type place in Santa Barbara though, it would be Brophy Bros.  Last night we ate at Lucky's steakhouse in Montecito.  This is the premier steakhouse of Santa Barbara and it didn't disappoint.  The NY strip steak I had was excellent, as was everything else.

Next week I'm going to the Jimmy Eat World casino night/show in Los Angeles.  Apparently instead of gambling for money, the prizes are concert tickets, guitars, and other band related things.  JEW is also going to play a small intimate show.  JEW + Gambling = a great great night.  The night after I'm seeing JEW at the Wiltern in LA.

Since I haven't done anything too exciting in over a week worth blogging about, Gold is going to send me a guest blog he wrote on a plane, about the night/morning I got kicked out of Scores in Las Vegas, to post here.  He was slightly less drunk than me and remembers things pretty vividly.  Reading a blog about myself via 3rd person will be kinda cool, so hopefully you readers will find it entertaining.

Hope everyone is doing well, doing whatever it is you do.

Peace.

So I'm in Berlin....and yea, that is very cool. Yesterday, we ate random assortments of Indian and Asian foods because, well, frankly, German food kinda blows a big one. I don't eat pork, so German food is effectively off limits for me. We walked around and did some sightseeing, and it was pretty sweet. The weather is awesome and our family friends who we're staying with (The Harts) have a monstrous loft, so it's a pretty good time for all.

I haven't really had the energy to grind out a 6 tabling session on my laptop. I normally play 10-12, but 6 is kinda the max on my laptop. Soooooo, I've been playing heads up cash games on a secret site :) and playing another 1 or 2 tables on Party of the best games I can find, between 2/4 and 5/10. I'm generally trying to start new tables there as well, and play heads up or 3 handed for as long as possible. When you're not playing a "grind" session, heads up poker is really enjoyable.

Anyways, in my first session here yesterday (while everyone else napped for 90 minutes) I cleared $1500. When they asked how I'd done, and I'd told them, they demanded I take the whole family out for dinner :)

My parents are finally starting to come around on the whole poker thing...ever since I called them at 730am EST right after the wpt tourney, they've actually started to realize that poker is a bit of an art form. Here in Berlin, they've been proud to tell the family that poker is how I support myself. And because most of my family is pretty young, they find it really engaging. Makes for a fun time :)

I'm off to shower and sightsee...

love,
Ezra

Hey guys. I've gotten some complaints about a lack of blog updates.

Sorry, but I've been out of town and visiting family.

I'm probably going to be very busy the next week and then I'll be back in the swing of things.

This weekend was all about family. Most of my family is spread along the East coast, while I live on the West coast. So it's rare that we get all together. My youngest sister and her husband flew in along with my other sister's husband just for the weekend. We had the first meal at my father's new house, which isn't moved into yet. There were 17 at lunch and 14 staying at my father's old house on the lake. It was very busy with kids running around and different activities going on around the lake. It was very enjoyable and yet very tiring.

Today we sat around at dinner talking about different forms of punishment employed during each generation's childhood. It was very interesting to hear different people's experience, even within one extended family. No two families are the same, and yet there are certain dynamics common to most. As you get older and have your own family you gain a perspective to be able to compare them all. It's not about judging one as better than the other, but to appreciate and learn from the different circumstances. As my wife says "bigger is better", the more people to share with, cry with, laugh with and love.

Its the night before the Main Event Final Table. Lee Childs has family flying in from all over the East Coast to watch him play. He conducted several interviews this afternoon with Bluff, ESPN, ESPN pay per view etc. Promotional gear is being handed out, preparations made. While it was officially an off day, after staying up to 5 or in Lee's case 8 am, its hardly a day full of rest. Tomorrow is a big day and you can see both the excitement and weariness in his eyes. He is poised on poker greatness, but whatever the result, it will have been a huge success. I'll be meeting his family later and seeing some friends at the Wynn before I head out of town the day after the Main Event finishes. More later...

It doesn't take much, a shred of hope and good fortune, to return me to my normal self at the table. I've played 3 shortish sessions since my 'incredulous' post and won all three. Not huge wins, due to a couple big suckouts 3 outers on the river. But I can handle that, I'm used to the beats, as long as I can still book wins consistently. I actually had one suckout myself, rare I know, because I rarely go in behind. Some day the beats won't come and I'll hit for a big number. Until then I'm fine with having a small edge consistently against my opponents.

The last couple weekends I've been working on a better balance between work, family and rest. This year I have erred on the side of work. The last couple weekends we've been having some nice short family outings; visits to the park, bike rides, ice cream shop etc. I've also taken time to play and rail instead of just work. It feels nice to have a better balance. I dont' feel so burnt out as the traditional work week starts up again. My family appreciates the effort and additional quality family time.

I messaged with a friend online who has just moved from California to a small town in the midwest. He said the parking tickets were just $2 (.25/hr meters) and they have more restaurants per capita than San Francisco. The cost of living and stress levels will go way down for him. He sounds very hopeful and excited about the move. When you play online poker, you can play from anywhere, so why not choose a location that has a high quality of life and fits your desired lifestyle.

To say that I have been absorbed with everything CardRunners lately would be an understatement.  It's been an extremely busy time behind the scenes the last 10 days.  That's why it was particularly nice today to only work a few hours and spend more of the day with the family.  In the morning, I took a walk with Mrs. Zimba, then we took a family bike ride to our local Saturday market.  My son's indoor soccer match was late morning with another dominating 10-0 performance and my son's first goal of the season.  Home for some lunch and a change and then off to a small birthday party at the local laser tag place.  Good fun for all.  Late afternoon was relaxing watching some football, while we had a family friend stop by for Halloween decoration preparations and dinner.  As always, the day starts and ends with CardRunners, but it was nice to mix in some other activities today.  Balance is definitely something I need to work on.  It can't always just be work, even if I'm needed there all the time.  I'm downloading a Schneids bonus video for Sunday right now to prepare for you.  Cya tomorrow.
