What's Your Edge
I've been taking some shots at the 25/50 PLO and HA games on FTP. I've ran it up a few times and lost it back a few times. I've about broken even in those games. I'd guess im maybe up a little. I think I'm gonna stop taking shots up there for now. I figure I can grind out more at 5/10 and also hone my PLO skills a bit more.
Check out this site, www.gfkpoker.com. If you know who Ghostface Killer...too.
I bought MLB.TV yesterday. It's pretty sweet. I can watch any baseball game in the country and the quality is good. I would say its almost comparable to non-HD tv. You can also put it into a mosiac so that you can have as many as 6 games going at once. It also lets me watch Tigers games.
This sunday the Sopranos and Entourage start up again. I'm pretty damn pumped for that.
I'm pretty frustrated after my last session I just had. I'm gonna go take it out at the gym.
I don't ever watch 6 games at once, but it's cool that you can. I just choose to watch one big one and then change when good things are going on in the other games.
I'm going to LIttle 5 this weekend at Indiana University. It's basically a big bike race that they use as an excuse to have a big party weekend. I went a few years ago and had a great time. I'm really looking forward to this weekend.
The fucking bulls. Goddamn it. They looked shitty as hell tonight and they also completely screwed themselves over. I also dropped Buehrle from fantasy team yesterday. If you didn't see, he basically threw a perfect game tonight. One fuckign walk. 8ks. Also, the Tigers managed to lose to the Royals today thanks to Jones blowing a save. Let's see, what else in sports pissed me off today. I think thats it. Well I guess the Cavs winning did as well, but I blame the Bulls mostly. Oh yea, Utley went 0/5 today. He was my first round pick for fantasy and he is playing awful so far this season. Sorry for that rant.
I started to write a blog entry the other night while I was sitting at some tables waiting for a HU PLO game. My first line was something to the effect of, "I've been absolutely crushing lately." That was all I wrote before the games got going. I figured I'd play for a bit and then doing some blogging after the session. Unfortunately, the session was horrible and I dropped like 10 buyins haha. I didn't feel like blogging afterwards. That session hurt and I probably wasn't playing my best, but I've still been doing really well overall. I've been playing PLO exclussively and really working on my game. Below are my stats so far in 2008.
I obviously have some tilt issues at times. I also need to make sure I don't play too many tables on my laptop. I can deal with 6-8 on a good monitor, but definitely not more than 6 on a laptop. I've gotten pretty good at playing a lot of tables though. It was hard for me to play more than 4 at first because I had trouble quickly figuring out what I had. I've pretty much got that down now. My 6max game clearly needs some work. I do think I've ran quite a bit below expectation though. I've taken some really nasty setups/bad beats on a pretty consistent basis in the 6max games. I'm going to watch some CR videos in the next few days and see if I can't plug some leaks. I want to get a little better before I make a CR plo video. I'm hoping to make one soon... I never blogged about Santa Barbara. It was really a great time. All of the CR guys are really great guys and fun to be around. I think it's awesome how we all get along so well despite the fact that most of us haven't spent too much time together. It was incredible to have so many poker geniuses in one room. It was motivational to me. 1.5 years ago I used to play in the same games as CTS, Stinger and even Plastic when the 25/50 plus wasn't running. Now I'm slumming at 2/4. It definitely wants to make me improve and get back to bigger games. I don't really see myself ever playing high stakes NLHE ever again though. I don't have the motivation to really work on my NLHE game. NLHE just became too stale. I do see myself working hard enough to get to 10/20 PLO and maybe even higher. I'm need to play a lot more hands at 2/4 though. I need to plug leaks and 2/4 is the place to do it. Once I feel more comfortable and build my online roll, I'll start moving to 3/6 and 5/10. If you haven't seen the fucking Matt Damon video, check it out. It's great. Even better is the fucking Ben Affleck video. I went to both of the Cubs games over the weekend. By definition, I'm not a cubs fan. The more games I go to though, the more I become somewhat of a fan. I'm not a fan at all of the "typical cubs fan" and I don't really want to ever be considered one of those. I do like rooting for them when I'm at wrigley though, so that probably makes me a fan in some capacity. Anyway, the reason for this minor rant is that I just wanted to comment that I think their team is defintiely more likeable this year than last. I really like their catcher, Soto. He is on my fantasy team as is DLee and Marmol. Fukudome is a very likeable guy. I love shouting his name at games. FUUUUUK AAAAA DOMMMM EEEEE!!! You also gotta enjoy seeing Kerry Wood closing. I've always like Kerry.
Both games this weekend were great. The weather was fantastic and we got to see close games that the Cubs managed to win. If you can get two 65 and sunny days in the beginning of April in Chicago, you gotta be pleased.
I haven't taken any pictures lately. I don't ever use my camera because I don't like it. The only pictures that have surfaced are ones of me and my girlfriend, Julia. I wanted to put up some pictures, so here are two with us in them. One is at the cubs game adn the other is from when we saw wicked. I really liked wicked by the way.
As far as poker, I'm doing well playing a ton of tables of NLHE. I'm getting killed at 5/10 and 10/20 plo. Too bad I love the rush of the bigger games. I think I'll be playing more of the many table NLHE games in the near future. Anyone out there ever seen The Harder They Come? It's a great movie and I recommend it if you haven't seen it. It's a cool story with some good music in it (although they play the same songs a few times throughout the movie). Below is the title track." alt="http://www.youtube.com/v/xGE4dnrPPZQ&hl=en">" title="http://www.youtube.com/v/xGE4dnrPPZQ&hl=en">">http://www.youtube.com/v/xGE4dnrPPZQ&hl=en">
Had a great session of poker today heads up. Ran decently well, but played even better. This was the first time in a few weeks where I really got my opponent off his game and capitalized on the psychological advantage I can usually obtain over my opponents. I came out ahead about 32k, which is a pretty damn good way to end my month of July online (I'm not going to be playing too much seeing as I'm leaving for Vegas soon).
I have decided to try to play some of the higher stakes cash games in Vegas. I'm going to bring quite a bit of money out there so I can comfortably buy in to the 100-200nl game. I'm not taking even close to what would be a proper bankroll, but I think I know enough people and have enough online so I could borrow or trade in case I need to. I think it is very reasonable that I could a LOT of money in the big cash games, and that is exactly what I'm going to try to do. People never believe this, but I feel my edge in live games is much greater than it is online. My "pattern reading" abilities don't change at all, and I always feel I get a better read on situations live. My record in live cash games (when I was trying - not counting drunk fests at 1-2nl) are great. I've played live 5 times at the bellagio 10-20nl+, and won every session. I know it is impossible to win everytime, but people generally don't know I am a capable player until it is too late, and I usually play a very solid, tighter game, and put a few moves in when necessary. I expect to be recognized a little bit more at these games because my picture has been posted on a few websites and there will be lots of CR members around. Being recognized as Green Plastic is a disadvantage in my opinion, I would rather players have no previous knowledge about my game. I will combat this by playing solid poker and being much more "in line" against players who know my style of play.
I'm excited about going to Las Vegas, and even more excited about my 1 week vacation in New York City that starts tomorrow. I'm leaving really early, and should arrive in NYC in mid morning. I'm going to hang out in Tribeca a bit, and then meet up with David and Ezra at some point. I have a high stakes poker game in Midtown with a bunch of Hedge Fund/Wall Street guys on Friday, but other than that there won't be much or any poker. Thursday I'm playing golf with a CR member who was nice enough to invite me to his country club. I'll post our scores and pics if I can get this all figured out. My girlfriend Melissa will arrive Saturday morning. We don't have much planned for the week except for seeing some sights and museums, eating at some great restaurants, and enjoying the city.
Oh yeah, I got a new laptop yesterday so I can stay connected on my trip. It's a HP, pretty small, good specs, etc. I'll give you guys some more updates from my hotel, but this will have to do for now.
Today I'm going to stop by a 4th of July party with some friends, and then I have a ton of packing to do.
Take care,
tc
it has only been a few days, and im basically just testing out software, but ive done fairly well at the medium stakes games testing things out, if i can add 2-3 new tables from these sites while im lpaying my usuals things look very good.
today, my tv's and surround sound arrive. god i can't wait. i'm not a tv guy at all, but ill have to watch a little bit on the 50 inch plasma. i might try to hook it up to my laptop too and play some poker, a la phil ivey.
im stilll half asleep i think, so i'm going to end this really short. i was up till 6am playing last night, there were a few good games.
