Even though I had a rough beginning this month, Ive passed my last month goal, and im hoping I can achieve my  6k goal this month. However, I really havent been playing much at all. I think ive only played 20k hands this month,

But things have started turning around, so hopefully I can finish off the month strong and pass my goal :)

Ok, so my goal for the rest of july:

Play 30k hands since july 16th to the 31st,  this will make me want to grind more hands and I will try and do a daily update to let you know how Im doing.

If i accomplish my goal before the end of the month, I can finish it off with 400nl :)

No monetary goal, other than hopefully be in the green side :) 10k month here I come!!!

My life, my thoughts, my poker.

My life:

Ran 5K today in a blistering time of 20:50 which is 50 seconds faster than my time on Wednsday. I have to be honest....I was shocked. I finished ahead of my friend for the first time ever since we've been running together. I had planned on a goal of 21 minutes to shoot for during the actual race on the 16th.

I think it was a combination of 2 things that improved my time so markedly......A)The stopping of the other types of workouts I was doing and B) really focusing on my stride, moving my arms, and staying loose while running.

Today was actually the easiest time I've had since I started training for the race.

I think I want to shoot for a faster goal now since I've acheived under 21 minutes already. I am going to see how I do on Mondays run and make a decision after I see how much I improve on my time.

Got "Tour de Life" from Amazon yesterday "from coma to competition"....about a pro rider whom has a crash during a race, falls into a coma, is told he will never walk again and gets back to competitive riding with a goal of winning the Tour de France. The person whom the book is about also has a physical defect which almost makes him handicapped. I got the book for this reason....When I read something about an individual like this.....I get ashamed of myself for not doing more in my life. I get embarrassed when I want to lazy it up and accept mediocrity when I think about people like this.

I'm looking into seeing a "Life coach" which seems to be a "en vogue" thing to do with business individuals these days. I am interested in seeing one for one reason and one reason only....I am not self motivated like the people I admire. Individuals whom make/have made a difference in the lives of others...whether it be one person or thousands. I can't seem to find one that would fit what I am looking for. I need a male coach. I need someone who is going to call me out and not accept any bullshit from me. Someone whom is going to tell it to me like it is and not worry about me telling them to go ice fishing and fall in. Still looking....

I'm liking this song lately...video is a little ghey, but the song is one I've been listening to.....it's on my training mix in my ipod.

My thoughts:

I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career.

I've lost almost 300 games.

26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed.

I've failed over and over and over again in my life.

And that is why I succeed.

One of my favorite quotes...courtesy of Michael Jordan.

My poker:

Not a ton of time put into it lately.

Took 4th in a $10 horse tourney on stars last night.

Cashed in the $3 rebuy on stars.

I've been thinking about setting a goal in regards to my playing...I am unsure as to what the goal would be.

I'd be open to suggestions if anyone has any.

Thanks for reading.

Anthony

December 13, 2007

it is snowing fairly hard out today and I was able to get some hands in.  I fell short of my goal of a thousand hands today, but I can make it up over the next three days.  My goal is 10k a week while I move up limits.  My dogs love the snow, two german shepards.  They dont have to shovel

I flew back to Wisconsin today to visit a bunch of friends. It is serving as a bachelor party for a good friend who is getting married on Memorial Day. So I will not be playing until Monday. It definately sets me back on my goal but it means I'll have to put in some serious grinding hours when i get back.

Obviously the month ended very nicely with the win in the 100K but March is done so it is time to make a new goal. I did not accomplish my grinding goals because I just didn't feel like playing full ring and I tilted a decent amount in PLO. I played well the last week or so in PLO and had a great win rate so the April goal will be focusing in on PLO.

April Goal

40K hands at 2/4 PLO w/ a 4 ptbb/100: 12.8K in winnings

I kept the goal simple and I should be able to obtain it. It has me playing about 25 hours a week just for the goal plus some tourneys on Sundays. I don't think this should be a problem. I guess  we  will see. I will also reach Supernova this month if I play that much which will increase my FPP production, i will then be able to take advantage of the 100K FPP $1500 bonus.

Anyway, GL at the tables.

Haven't had the opportunity to play yet this weekend. I'll probably play a little today. I'm trying to remotivate myself and it's not exactly working. I feel like when I'm not working toward a goal I don't put my best effort into actually playing. On the flip side of that, when I do set myself a goal it tends to be lofty, and I end up playing when I normally shouldn't play. So in the end many of the goals I have set have motivated me to play, though in the end they haven't always been profitable.

I notice that a lot of people have trouble with goals, setting them, following through on them, and eventually meeting them. In fact, one of the only goals that I have seen go through to completion in a great way was Bill Ivey, making 100k in 100 days a ways back (I think Summer 06). Even though he's a young player, he showed the poker world determination, motivation, and most importantly good poker discipline in accomplishing that goal.

So with that in mind, I'm going to set a goal for myself now, and really go all out to try and meet that goal. I'm going to play exclusively .25/.50 for the next 30 days and make 60 buyins at this level. I will not move up for the next thirty days, and instead work on my game to become a more profitable player over the next month. After each session I will provide a review here and we'll see how it goes.

The Poker Mindset (the book) speaks of not setting monetary goals.  Instead to set goals such as 'Play X amount of hands this month',  'Im going to Final Table a WSOP event in my life'.  ...  Goals that won't stress you out in the shortterm and make you do bad things or force things, but are great for your long term.   Goals such as I will make 3 buyins today can be bad as you might be up 2.5 buyins and wont quit cuz you are not at your goal and then you end up losing more money due to changes in the game, or you becoming tired or whatever the key factor is.

For the most part I agree with this philosophy.  However, I also believe Monetary goals are ok if they are not for one specific session or really difficult to achieve.   Why put pressure on yourself when its not needed.  Instead, use it as a motivational tool.

That brings me to my Goal.  I originally put this goal up for two reasons.  One, to make money.  Two, to motivate myself to playing more volume.   I normally work 40hrs a week and play maybe 15k hands a month on average.    With work out of the way this week, I was able to put in the volume needed.   And this goal was suppose to kick me in the ass to do so.  And I did, I played 30k hands in roughly 9 days.   And I still went out and had a social life.  Not limiting myself to poker only.  Which included not playing Saturday day/night nor all of Sunday.

I came home tonight about 7pm, $1200 away from my goal.  I wasn't in the mood to play.  Long day today as well so i'm kind of tired.   I chose to use the Poker Mindset for today, for right now, not to play.  Not to chase my goal of $10k in 10 days.  Not to play when I'm probably not going to play my A game.  So I accept failure in not completing my goal while embracing all the success that this goal has brought to me.

Total results for the 10 day period - 9 days played:

2/4 Cash games: +$8772.35      3.6ptbb/100  (low for me, but due to table increase)

MTT: Approximately:+$4k

RakeBack:  Approximately + $1k

Total just shy of 14k overall.

Here is a graph of my 2/4 games including 6max and HU.  Interesting 9 days starting -3.5k the first day and having an almost 3k tilt session day8.

So whats next you ask?  A nice fat withdrawal.  Time to remind myself why I play this game.  Other wise its back to work (tell me why do I work again) so I will be playing less-to-nonexistant during the week and a decent volume on the weekends.

I will continue to play more 2/4 for now even though I'm overrolled.  Maybe playing the higher games when they are superfishy.

Another thing is FTOPs.  I will probably be playing Fri/Sat/Sun.    I am also interested in playing the $2600 2 day event.   I have played it before and would like to play it again.  However, I dont think I want to pony up the $2600 so I will attempt to satelitte into it.   I would also be willing to sell slices (say $500 each) of my action if people are interested.   The event had a 1st prize just shy of Half Million last time...   PM on CR if interested.

GL on the tables.

Finished 2007 off strong with a 700+ month in december and also leveled up my stakes for cash games. very excited about that. But when looking back on the whole year i feel i have improved my game soo soo much but just haven't improved my financial situation as much as i thought. My goal for 2008 is a very lofty one and would be a huge break out, that being said i think it is perfectly acheivable one. I want to make $50,000 from poker this year. I will make a more detailed blog entry about how i plan on attaining this goal. I want to move up in levels throughout the year and further my game. I know that this is going to take a lot of dedication and a lot of volume. I want to make large strides before the end of April when i will be graduating. At that time i will be taking a close look at this goal and evaluting whether it is good or not and adjusting from there. After watching numerous videos of mid stakes games it is apparent that my game is certainly good enough to beat those levels. I will be a grinding machine the next couple of months!!!

Happy New Year

December 27, 2007

I was randomly reading through some blogs and found one where the guys goal was to make 365k by next year. Due to my absolute lack of creativity, I am going to copy this goal and decided to write about it here to keep me on task and so I dont get lazy in tracking my results. I am going to really focus on HU cash games. Right now I am playing at the 5-10 level on stars and building my roll on FT. I put in a couple hours yesterday and a very short session today and am up just under 6k.
