CARDRUNNERS
What's Your Edge
After having a serious downswing this last week over 7k hands resulting in about -12 buyins, I decided to take a break from cash games and start grinding SNGs again. I've always been profitable at them, I usually just get bored. However, I've noticed some changes recently in the way the 9 man turbos on stars have been playing, and am trying to exploit some of these new approaches to the SNG. I've played about 50 SNGs in the past two days and my ROI is a ridiculous 33%. So I guess I'll keep grinding these, until variance catches up
I'm working on a second part to my music posts, which will focus on rap and general misconceptions about the genre. I'll have it up either later today or tomorrow.
till then...
So I'm settled into my new job, which is going great. It is so nice to have things like Health Insurance, a 401k, and a regular paycheck again. It will be nice to just use poker money as "fun money" again for the first time in awhile.
I was going to make like a $2k deposit or something on Stars or FTP and start grinding away at .25/.50 PLO but then I noticed that I still had a bunch of FPPs on Stars (tho nothing close enough to getting any sort of good merchandise). So I started playing these 70FPP SnGs for some $11 Sunday MTT. I won a few of them an all of a sudden had some T$. I then played $2 HU PLO SnGs for a few weeks until I had a BR of like $100 real american dollars. Out of nothing. God Internet poker is so cool.
So i decided to take a few shots in small dollar MTTs to see if I could 2x or 3x my BR, and voila:
PokerStars Tournament #82982658, Pot Limit Omaha
Buy-In: $15.00/$1.50
85 players
Total Prize Pool: $1275.00
Tournament started - 2008/04/01 - 12:30:00 (ET)
Dear jbird75,
You finished the tournament in 1st place.
A $293.26 award has been credited to your Real Money account.
So all of a sudden I had the makings of a BR again....so forget depositing, I'm going to see how far I can run up my BR from $0. So I started grinding away at the microstakes:
It's pretty painful playing these stakes when I'm so used to .5/1 and 1/2, but the feeling of creating money out of $0 is cool enough to overcome that I think. So the BR is now around $500. I hope to have it to $1k by the end of the month. I cannot play as much as I used to, but finding an hour a day or so is pretty doable. I'm going to be liberal with my step-ups in stakes until I get to .5/1, probably moving up at 20 - 25 BI for the next level, careful to move back down if I go on a bad run and hit 30 BI for the stakes below. Once I get to .5/1 (next month?) I will stay there until I have 50 BI for 1/2, then I hope to stay at 1/2 for a long time -- just grinding out an hour a day and taking off my profits once a month for fun things.
It's kinda nice to be playing again, and with this new job, not taking poker as seriously as I had been for the last year.
GL,

...is grinding. No HH just because there's really not too many interesting spots I got into, so no point in posting standard hands. I think I played well, but obv very standardly. I won 7.5 BI in 1200 hands 8tabling for ~1.5 hrs (so obv very solid result). I'm gonna keep grinding for sure, and I also asked FTP to raise my table # limit (since every account starts with 8, so I may start 12 tbling, who knows). I really wish I grinded earlier. Yes, when you lose, grinding blows. But really, even with the high amount of variance in poker, 8tbl grinding stakes that you can easily beat is so much more relaxing than playing underrolled or playing a high-variance game like HU NLHE or PLO. Time to keep grinding-hopefully I can finish my 50k hand challenge at NL$100 by the very beginning of school. Starting college ballin' at 2/4 (and hopefully winning) would be pretty sweet IMO.
Beat: Probably not winning enough moniez fast enough to pay my friend back the $4k I owe him from this buyin online... lol.
I also plan to play the FTOPS, except the ones on the dates of July 30-August 9th, as I will be in CA/OR visiting family (UGH long fucking flights...but I'll have laptop and shit). MONIEZ IN THE FUTURE???
EDIT: Ty Rajmaster. You're so fucking right too- I need to talk to Verneer ASAP! He already made a vid, so he needs to process and submit it. I will put mine on Megaupload soon I think. We've only played one match so far.... need to play some more.

ive enjoyed reading your blog man. whens your vid with verneer coming out? gl for college,
+$1k days shouldn't be that satisfying when it's only like 2.5 buyins but I still love them!!!
I read a recommendation for Sigur Rós and I'm a big fan already. It's great grinding music... very peaceful, and soo pretty. Here's a sample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhLZP6Cz2dA
My Freedom Chair and new desk have finally arrived!
I just got back from a four day trip to Atlanta for a wedding. Pretty fun town. Now it's grinding time!

Ok, basically, estas hecho verga. Who do you know in Atlanta and why did you go to their wedding? This stings, Mr. H. This stings. The least you can do is get your damn fastboat already.
keep grinding, sir!!!!!!! go go go!!!!!!!!!
:)))))
Just like the title says I have been doing well, relatively well atleast :)
passed over 100k hands this month grinding at 50nl and 25nl currently and hoping to make a move to 100nl soon.
last 3 days i've been playing tigher and i've won around 150$, i'm going to just keep grinding and grinding. I think i need to learn more about the math because a lot of players dont know enough math i think to be very very good players math is like 50% of it. Thats mainly what i'm going to be focusing on for the next week. Figure out everything about math and poker, eventually when i do ill make a post about it.

Math is only part of a cohesive winning strategy. There are other elements just as important. Imagine yourself building a cart, and math = the axle. You will still need the other elements weaved together in a balanced way in order for your 'cart' to function properly.
All I'm saying is just don't focus on solely one thing if you truely want to move up quickly. Make yourself a plan of action on how to improve like a list of elements where you know you are weak and needs to become stronger in. For every element you are weak on, it will take that much longer for you to get to 1000NL.
lol, anyways just my 2 cents. I'm only slightly higher up on the food chain, but feel free to run anything by me if you need another pair of eyes on it :o)
and hardin the fuck up!
Thats the way I feel about my poker game at the moment. I think I am playing a little retarted. Only rolled for 10nl now. So grinding is a must.
Bet for value and thats about it.
Ive only played a few k hands this month Ive been so busy with school. I dont expect to play much in April but May I will be grinding tons. I get my new TV this weekend which will serve as my main montior a 52 in Phillips LCD 1080P. I still have my 20 inch monitor and my laptop so I proably will play around 16 tables. Moving to pokerstars is going to be great with the REWARD PROGRAM over there I should get SUpernova in a month and earn tons of free stuff. Since Ive been playing at UB which is contributed rakeback at a full ring game im not earning that much a month.
College calsses end May 7th for me so I got about 30 days of work and then its all about grinding.
I want to take a vacation or 2 this summer but not really sure to where yet. Defnitly going to Turning Stone a few times and would like to go on a cruise or someother vaction out of the country.
