CARDRUNNERS
What's Your Edge
So I meant to get on the other day and post another blog, but I got caught up. We went to my Uncle's place for the 4th and since hes a traditionalist, he has no internet or phone landline. That meant I couldn't get online at all. Oh yea, he also doesn't have cable tv. Wtf? They are in a rental house for now, so that explains it a bit. I couldn't live in a house without those things though.
Anyway, we are in the northern part of lower Michigan. My Great Grandpa bought land up here that he could hunt in 1947. The land has been in the family ever since. Over the years, more land has been bought and added on so that we have a pretty large piece of land. It is located in the middle of nowhere and the land consists of all woods. The nearest town is about 10 minutes away and it only has a few shops. It's definitely much different than what I'm used to in Chicago. I really enjoy getting away from my busy life and just relaxing.
We went fly fishing on monday. I didn't catch anything, but I still had a good time. I've fly fished about 5 or 6 times in my life and I'm not that great, but I have the basics down. It's something that I want to get better at as I get older.
I've also gotten out to play golf twice. I shot an 89 and a 90. Historically, those aren't great scores for me, but I am happy with them. My game has been so bad and I feel like its finally coming around. The courses we have played have been very tough w/ slopes in the high 130s as well. Today I shot the 90 and putted horribly. I think If I can iron out a few more leaks I can be back in teh low 80s, which would be great.
Hope everyone had a happy 4th.
That is Andrew leaning over the rail. On Taylor's direct right is Daniel Alaei who is a high stakes player, has been on GSN's High Stakes Poker and plays on UB as purple raize.
Andrew and i have talked about PLO a bit and he compares it to how NLH was 2-3 years ago. We werent great by any means back tehn, but we were so much better than everyone else because they were just horrible. Thats kind of how it is now with PLO, i still feel kind of confused about what to do (this almost never happens in NLHE for me), but so far i've been winning. I've only been playing modest stakes, mostly 2/4 and 3/6, but aside from one bad session at 10/25 im a big winner at 2/4, 3/6, 5/10 and 10/25 (about even here due to that one session).
Anyway, CardRunners is going to put up some PLO vids in the near future (we have maybe 5-10 already so you guys should check those out. Full Tilt has some new mixed games (PLH and PLO) that are pretty cool and andrew will make a video doing those as well.
gl - going to party like crazy today. melissa comes back tuesday too so i am looking foward to that.

There's nothing I love more than making money in airports. Conversely, there's nothing I hate more than losing money in airports. I haven't figured out why this is, but it's always been like this. I think it's because I feel like I "shouldn't be playing," so if I win money, it's like found money. When I lose money, it's like I got robbed or something. Robbed by my own stupidity, maybe.
Anyway, I lost 12k just now in the Denver airport, and that includes winning a quads over quads hand for 10k. I played very badly, and didn't run so hot either up until the end. That pisses me off.
Anyway, I'll be in Santa Barbara till Monday and LA till Thursday. Blog ya later.

haha, "Robbed by my own stupidity." Masterful way with words you have.
it's not working so far.
i'll make the post i planned to make anyway. This is the obligatory "Vegas!" blog post. Every poker blogger has to tell the world when they arrive in Las Vegas for the WSOP. I'm one upping them and doing it from the airport before I land. So long as my plane doens't go down in a fiery crash, i'll touch down in Vegas in about 3 hours from now. This has to be cut short because I gots a plane to catch, peace.

Dude, try using plurk (plurk.com) instead of twitter. It's new and far superior.
Just finished up a session one of the euro sites I play on and ended the day +$6800. This was all at the 2/4 level and 4 hours of play. My poker tracker is REALLY messed up, it doesnt save all the hands so it doesnt show me an exact number of hands I have played or an accurate profit or loss - but its still a great tool to analyze hands it has saved. I played 2 big hands for over $1800 here they are:
I have J-10 clubs in small blind. Button raises to $14 I re-raise to $48, big blind calls and so does the button. I have $1200 - BB has $900 and button has $300. board comes 5-6-9 rainbow. Everyone checks. Turn brings an 8 - I check again - trying to control the pot, calling any bet by the other 2 playes. BB bets $90 into a $144 pot. Button folds and now its on me. I thought about raising here - but I was 90% sure he had a 7 so I just call - River is the Queen giving me the nuts. I instantly DONK bet the pot $304 and he INSTANTLY shoves all in - I call - and win an $1800 pot. He went CRAZY in the chat box - asking me to send his money back...
Second hand on a different table I have 77 in small blind again. Cutoff raises to $14, I call in SB again - BB calls. I have $900, BB has $2200 and is a HUGE donk getting very lucky all night - Cutoff is irrilevant. Board is 6-7-10 rainbow I hit my set, nice.. My image on this table is very loose and crazy so I decied to check raise. BB bets out pot - cutoff min raises to $82. I wasnt sure exactly what to do here so I can get MAX VALUE out of this hand so I decieded just to call. BB then re-raises to $360 - cuttoff folds and now its on me. I put him on at best 2 pair here, maybe JJ - I push all in he calls and my 77's hold up to his 66's - set over set. $1800 pot again.
The rest of the night was pretty stanard - I got 2 HUGE sukouts for 1 buyin each by a 2 outer so I am not running hot trust me. The key to my success lately I believe has been not ever tilting. I have learned to control myself and not get angry when playing. My next session, I'll post some bad beats or coolers.
This pic is when I played on UB couple months ago - I played this one guy HU for about 3 hours and took almost 20 buyins of him. Obviously its the most Ive ever won in a session. My next goal is to have 15-20 buyins on a $5/10 table - it could possibly be done playing the right person and on the right site.
It has been a while since my last update - its just that Ive been VERY busy with everything.
I didnt play much in april but ended up winning $16K. I actually cashed in a tourney for $6k which helped alot.
Other than poker, I have been very busy searching for another property. I found what I think is a solid investment opportunity. Its a power of sale going for $217K - I put in a bid for $185K - we'll see how that goes.
Hope everyone has a solid May, I'll try and update a bit more.
I have no idea why I keep this blog going, it's really dumb. But every once in a while I get in the mood to update as I know I have a couple of buddies who read this shit.
First, Fantasy Basketball is up and down, it's actually a fun league to watch cause the swings are like PLO HU. Spuddy and I are neck and neck but he has played far less games than me, and Muddy is sucking hind tit but hasn't played very many games and can make up a lot of ground. In real bball, D has a game tomorrow at 1 with Pics right before. Time for a cut this afternoon which I love. Davis is playing on a new team and has some good kids on his team and some not so good kids. One of the kids is Shawn Kemp's son. I think Shawn has like 17 kids, and the two we know aren't very good. Never seen Shawn either, go figure. Speaking of names, we are still working getting Greg Odon up to Seattle and have him go to one of Davis' games. Demanding our connection to make this happen (my wifes neice).
Poker is nothing but a grind. I recovered from a 40BI donwswing in November in Dec. and then right around xmas went on another monkey tilt 2 day binge. On the 27th I remember sitting down with my last 167 at 3/6 and OTB raises 21, SB calls and I shove my roll with 33. I hold against OTB AK and I bolt very next hand. Funny. So I grinded with less than 10BI at 50HU to 1k then grinded 100HU to 4k and then started playing more 6 max and did the 200NL. I'm still at 200NL but taking some selective shots at some higher games buying in half if I see good spots. I like the feel of 50BI so that's what I'm using, so I have some work to get to 2/4. I'm only withdrawing rake for next two months, so want to see how far I can take the 167. The tilt arond the 27th was some of my finest moments of tilt for me. All HU as well. Playing more 6 max is less variance and I still will play HU, just more selective. My action is drying up HU, even with a few regs that play 400NL, tells me I should really focus on selection more as well. I will play anyone has always been my mindset. One last thing, I have really opened up my game at 6 max and doing a ton more resteals from the blinds and such, plus I enjoy playing a swingier game of 6 max and post flop I feel my game is strong due to all the HU. So I'm doing some new stuff both in position and from the blinds that I haven't done a lot of in the past. I just want to make it hard for even a 6 max player to put me on a hand range from all spots at the table.
Big game this weekend since Davis is a Giants fan. I feel an upset for some strange reason.
Hope all is well with everyone. I have a couple guys I like to follow since I like their online personality, namely LenT53 which is starting a blog and got a sick ride, luckhappens who probably has the worst blog on CR, go look at his last entry, and my new boy Silenced as he is in HU forums and kid can rake.
Peace all.
