Music. Let's talk about music. Certain songs remind me of certain people/events. No matter how many times I hear a particular song...it always brings me back to thinking about a special person or event. Some make me smile...some damn near bring me to tears. Tonight I was on youtube and watched the videos of just about every song that brings back memories. I figured I'd share them with you... Whats My Age Again?- Blink 182. This song reminds me of high school. My friends and myself weren't exactly mature lol. To be honest this song still reminds me of my current state.
I Swear- All 4 one. Reminds me of sixth grade dances. This was THE song to dance to. Sadly I never asked/got asked to dance to it. =(
Centerfield- John Fogerty. Everytime I hear this song I instantly think of playing youth baseball. They always played it between innings during all star games. Still one of my favorite songs currently.
Black Betty - Ram Jam. High school hockey warmup song freshman year...this song could always get me pumped up to play.
It's So Hard To Say Goodbye To Yesterday - Boyz II Men. Reminds me of special people in my life who have passed away. Probably the saddest song that I know.

I think it's pretty crazy that despite being on different coasts, nearly all of the songs mean the same thing for me. Good blog.

I discount the geographic phenomena and put the blame on your shared bad taste in music to being of similar ages...LOL
I've been playing a mixture of 100nl and 200nl this last week. It's been my first week at 200nl. it started really well but it's not been great the last couple of days. I'm pretty confident that I am good enough to beat 200nl, the last few days has just been variance.
I've not been hitting flops in 3 bet pots or had QQ etc, flop come K high etc. These have big influences on how sessions go $-wise in the short-term. Been happy enough with my play.
I'm having a pretty tough time with poker, and I'm not quite sure how to approach the situation, besides pushing through it. I am now down on the month a significant amount, and no longer feel that attempting to hit my goal is within reach, and will in fact make me force action when it's not there. As such, I'm putting that on hold.
The games recently have basically been a complete mental fuck. Here's the general pattern. I win a few buyins, then the cards turn and I start getting played back at on 80% of hands. To prevent from being bullied around, I open up my post-flop call down ranges. My W$SD% goes down to like 30% because villains have hands all the time. Sick...it's like I can't snap off a bluff because there are none. I'm not talking about calling down with Ace high or mid pair here. I'm talking about hitting TPTK and committing myself against sets, draws, two pairs etc. I don't think this s unreasonable when the aggression on every hand is very high. Blegh. So I guess I'm going to try and push through it and turn some winning sessions.
Just wanted to put an update out here.
Mine sucks.
Requirements:
1. NOT VISTA
2. big screen with high resolution

Go build one on Dell's website.....they still allow you to do that with XP.
Feb 29, 08 02:41:12
Less than 2 months ago, i custom ordered a Dell with a 17" WUXGA screen (1920x1200 resolution, allows easy 4 tabling with no overlap and without adjusting table sizes). It was the Inspiron 1720 and the only option was Vista, but i had a copy of XP pro and put it on. All the drivers for XP are on their website and was easy to do. All came to about \$1,000
Feb 29, 08 03:26:59
"No mac"? Seriously? Get a MacBook Pro (or even just a MacBook!) and you'll be blown away. You know you can ALSO put Windows on it right and have the option on start up of booting into either that or the Mac operating system? Mac laptops are solid - anything else is not. The End.
Feb 29, 08 03:37:49
you should not wait too long though as Microsoft is stopping to ship xp within the next months
I like the samsung laptops
Feb 29, 08 05:57:49
What size are you looking for? 15 17" Have a few options but you need to be more specific.
Feb 29, 08 06:28:45
no secret, the bests are the most expensive : TOSHIBA, SONY, ASUS shouldn't disappoint you if you take the highest models

obv upgrade screen, memory whatever else you want, they arent cheap, they arent lightweight, they are amazing
Feb 29, 08 06:50:04
with some really swet upgrades the one i told you about comes to about 5k, i didnt factor in price at all though and basically just went for the biggest/best of everything....i got one with fewer upgrades for 3k and am very happy with it

I have exactly the same laptop and am equally dissatisfied. My laptop is as loud as a vacuum cleaner.
Right now I am thinking about getting a Dell laptop with a 17" WUXGA screen 1920x1200 resolution like kgarnett in comment #7 suggested.
Only question is: Isn´t a 17" screen way too big if you want to carry it around?
And why on earth do I have to pay more than 1000 EURO here in Europe?
I´d like to here further poker-suitable suggestions.
Feb 29, 08 08:08:11
I have 17" Macbook Pro and it is phenomenal. Never slows down and you can run windows xp on it at the same time. 17" not too big to carry around and resolution is phenomenal. Full tilt and Pokerstars software looks great!
Pokerplayers should be concerned about RAM and Processor speed as they run multiple tables and tracking software at the same time. GL.

You can pick between weight/gaming and batterylife size.
Most of the machines will be fairly large so keep that in mind. 8lbs on your back through 2 hour security lines sucks.
Feb 29, 08 14:12:31
Just get a 17'' macbook pro and put XP on it.
omg I just sneezed adn its everwhere, fuick,.
Feb 29, 08 15:22:00
Man, you must get a MacBook Pro. I have just a regular MacBook and love it. (I do have a Dell desktop also, though.) Here's why the MacBook Pro is awesome... 1) It's the best notebook available on planet Earth. 2) You can put Windows XP on there and still have a kick-ass computer. 3) It won't be long 'til PT3 is 100% done, and it will be natively compatible with Mac systems. 4) Full Tilt and 'Stars already natively run on Macs. Okay, Ryan... All that being said, once you go to a Mac, you will never want a PC again. It is a little bit different to get used to, but it is so superior to the PC product. For instance, when you plug in a Kodak (...just an example.) digital camera to a PC, you have Windows' software trying to import pictures, Kodak software trying to import, and any other picture software that the computer manufacturer partnered with and loaded onto their product before you bought it. It's such a pain in the ass. When you plug in a digital camera to a Mac, you don't have to put in a CD to set up the damn drivers or anything. (There are no such things as drivers with Mac.) It just pulls up the default program that comes with Mac, which is better than all those other programs anyway, and imports your pictures...not a million choices. Just plug in the USB and go. This is the same for all devices that you can plug in. Okay...I'm done with my rant. Get a MacBook Pro! Dude, you're the gangster of online poker, aren't you? Get the gangster of notebooks! Later, man.

Build your own.....this site is sick. i just ordered a ridiculous desktop off here. #1 rate custom pc site.

Seriously, just get a mac... they're quality built even if a bit expensive which doesn't matter all that much to you.
You can put XP on them if you want to but FT/Stars do have macos clients and PT3 will be out for mac this summer...

i put this identical comment in some guy's "month end circle jerk" post LOZL
macbook pro. vmware. NOT CLOSE. stop wasting ur time. buy the shit. if i had a 7fig score i woulda bought the shit last year. forealz.

Oh and I forgot to mention one of the biggest factors regarding buying a Mac. They do not depreciate in value!!! If selling it several years later you will get almost 2/3rds of what you paid for it, unlike your Dell or standard laptop which will be worthless.
Mar 5, 08 07:07:37
ryan, brian townson bought a viao said it was worst computer ever, he then bought a mac pro, havent heard yet, might be the one to ask. i just bought a dell m1730 with all power available with vista ultimate, works fine, fast. they also have this model with windows xp profesional in customize your own. for my desktop i have a dell xps1710hpc with 40 inch sony bravia main monitor and 2-24 dell monitors mounted above for stats, as many tables as you can play this would be a dream. hope this gives you some insight.null

If money is no object and you want a smoking fast reasonable size travel laptop that is durable I would but a Dell ATG D630 or XFR D630. The 64 GB solid state hard drive will make it the fastest laptop money can buy. (I would also get the built in WWAN so you can play poker anywhere anytime on one of these laptops.)
If you want a 17" screen I would buy an Alienware Area-51 m9750. Use the Raid 0 dual 64 GB solid state hard drives.
Yeah you caught me making a blog entry, I never thought I would do something like it.
But when i'am a super high stakes hitman (uhu like btown) it is nice to read the first words out of my mouth on poker.
So.... Where do you start these things?
Iam a 20 year old student how started playing NLholdem a while ago. After some struggle i run my rol up using conservative br management.
When i was ready to start playing 2-4 I took some shots, but in the mean while I run horrible at the 200nl tables.
So horrible that i stopped taking shots at 400nl (I even made profit over that small sample size :))
I lost like 30 buy ins at 200nl for various reasons.
After that i took a little break. My br was still good enough to handle 200nl, but I decided that 100nl was a better option.
That's where i'am today.
After my break I also started playing Razz. I like the game alot and iam willing to invest time in order to learn the game.
This blog will handle my Razz and my other games progress.
On FTP I play under the name " I_Kissed_Paris"... So if you are a Razz god, stop by at my table and teach me a lesson or 2.
I Will post a Razz hand I Played today.
Beneath the hand i posted my thought proces and questions iam having.
Any comments offcourse are welcome..... (if anybody was able to find and read my blog :P )

Is it ok to cap here? Because he only called with 6 high, I assumed that he would have raised like 267
5th here I have to assume he made t high and I have j high, so a call is best (correct if wrong )
6th I made my 8 high with good kicker. I don’t think he had better then 8 high, and my kicker was better so I raised
7th I betted again on the same reason as on
That's it for today
Because of my day job (I'm software analyst/developer) usually my week session are placed in this way:
- a session in the early morning (around an hour),
- a quick session when I'come back home by train (around half hour)
- another session in the evening (one or two hours long).
Obviously is not the same all the week long: my family is in the first place but luckly my wife seems to be curious about how far can I go with that,..
Yesterday I played some hands but I'm not satisfied because I feel I'm still playing in too many marginal situation.
I wish to play something like 20/18 because I'm 4 tabling right now and so I think I can afford to play a little looser: anyway yesterday my pfr was low, stealing a little bit below average, w$wsf adeguate, WToSD high and W$SD seems ok.
Some of the hands played.
Played terrible by myself where I donate a stack to my opponent with pocket Q's:

In the style of KILLER POKER BY THE NUMBERS by Tony Guerrera and the video series WHAT ARE THE CHANCES & MEANING FROM DATA by Dr. Michael Starbird. Brian may need a proof reader;) But the theory is solid. Keep up the good work.
