Nothing much has been happening lately.  This week I did mostly school stuff and went out Friday night to Skybar with all of my roommates.  We had a lot of fun, as we don't really EVER all go out together.  Saturday and Sunday consisted of sitting on the couch, watching sporting events on TV, and playing poker here and there.  I have run VERY bad at PLO.  I basically haven't won in any huge pots, and I have lost a bunch of them where i am 45/55 and 40/60.  A little frustrating, but I have run very good at NLHE and LHE.  I began playing LHE when I first started grinding because I thought the swings were smaller, which is not true.  You swing much more in LHE.  However, at the 1/2 level, players are VERY bad and play far less than optimally.  I will try and post some hands later, but I really need to study right now.  I am taking my Series 7 examination at the end of the month.

April 17, 2008

I just have to realize that learning PLO while still earning a living at LHE was more difficult than I thought. In April I've lost money at LHE so far according to PokerEV. I basically will have to put PLO on hold until I can salvage my LHE game. I'm still going to learn PLO but I think I'll do that this summer instead.

The first thing I'm going to do is to drop down to LHE $5/$10 until I get this sorted out. From playing around with making my own custom statistics in PT3 I already know where I'm losing money. I didn't realize before what a big difference it is to call down from the flop on and from the turn on when it comes to equity. I really need to cut down on the number of hands I call down with from the flop and on. Of course I have to be careful not to take this to far so that I get run over. But I'll experiment a bit in order to get back in the right LHE mindset.

I didn't realize until now what a great tool PT3 is when it comes to building custom statistics. I'm really amazed at the number of things you can to. But having said that I'm going to buy a Mac soon to use for important stuff that needs a high level of security such as connecting to my internet bank and so on. If I'm correctly informed it is possible to play on FullTilt using a Mac without using Boot Camp or something like that.

The problem with Mac so far while being very secure is that there are no good trackers for poker. Having said that they will release a Mac version of PT3 towards the end of this year I think. From what I understand Hold'em Manager will also be ported to Mac eventually. I will buy whatever tracker that is available first for Mac. As long as it imports hands and has a HUD I'm happy.

Now I'm going to compare different Mac models in order to find out what model to buy. And then play some LHE.

Hopefully I will get back on track soon!

April 18, 2008

I'm slowly starting to play better at LHE again. Today I mainly ran good though. I'll keep playing LHE for now. Hopefully I will end up positive in April.

Below are my LHE and NLH results so far this month:

The sporadic low limit play is from trying out different beta HUDs where I didn't want to play higher in case of a computer crash or something.

To round things off the main reason why I'm still behind this month (PLO):

So I'll take a break from PLO and focus on getting my LHE game together.

Time to catch up on all the CR LHE videos!

The words 'That's the Johan I know' were spoken by an opponent at FullTilt after I overplayed a hand. Naturally I answered 'lol' as I laughed when I saw his comment in the chat. I took it as a good thing though. It means I'm getting back to my old self again. I was often perceived as a borderline maniac when I played the way I used to at LHE. Of course I gear up and down so in reality I'm not that maniacal. But the fact that my opponent recognized me as my old self means I must be doing something right

Below is my LHE graph for last week including both 6max and heads-up at various limits:

In other words last week wasn't to pleasant. I hope to play more hands this week and also start posting interesting hands again now that I'm back to LHE. I'm also going to become more active in the LHE forum here at CR.

Now it's time to get something to eat. I haven't followed the stock market closely for a while now so it's time to get updated on that. And then play some LHE of course!

I haven't been running well this month according to PokerEV. So I started looking at how things have been going since I started playing LHE $10/$20 and above in the end of January. I've played about 25k hands of LHE at the mentioned levels since I moved up from $5/$10.

Here is the graph:

Even if I remove the 5k hands from untested sites the picture is roughly the same. The reason why I haven't played more hands since Jan 30th spells PLO. As a side note PokerEV says I'm a loser at PLO but that I already know.

Now I realize that 25k LHE hands is nothing when it comes to determining your true win-rate. I know you could go 100k hands and break even even though you're in fact a winning player. Well that's what my brain says anyway. My heart says something else.

So why am I whining when I have in fact won money since I started play $10/$20 and above? Well, I have had a losing month. Mainly because of me trying to learn PLO but I've also lost money at LHE. But the graph above is encouraging. I don't know what I would have done without PokerEV. Probably dropped down. But my bankroll can still sustain my play at $10/$20 so I will continue for now.

I'm going to take a long walk in the beautiful weather outside and clear my head. Hopefully I will return to the tables refreshed ignoring what looks to be a losing month.

The project to learn PLO didn't turn out well. It has had a bad influence on my LHE game as well.

These are my LHE stats from last month (ignoring sporadic play below $3/$6 when trying out different HUDs):

If it weren't for that single $30/$60 heads-up session I would have had a terrible month. PokerEV says I should be up instead so that's always a comfort. I haven't found a store yet that accepts sklansky bucks though.

And to round things off my PLO stats for April:

PokerEV says I'm a loser at PLO but since I was trying to learn PLO that is to be expected.

I can't forget April soon enough. Hopefully I will earn some real money in May instead when playing LHE only. In a currency accepted by most stores.

I've basically had enough of mid stakes LHE for a while. PokerEV says I should be winning but I still dropped down. I basically need to regain my confidence.

These are my LHE stats since May 1st:

I haven't played that many mid stakes hands this month but since I've lost $4K since the start of April I need a break. I feel pretty tired and fed up with LHE at this point. I'm going to spend alot of time outside in the beautiful weather to clear my head. I'm not sure whether I'll jump back up to mid stakes in June or July at this point.

Since I've mostly played low stakes this month there haven't been to many interesting hands to post. On a side note I played in a NL satellite to the WSOP but was knocked out when my opponent called the flop with nothing but a backdoor draw, called again on the turn when he picked up his straight draw and then hit his straight on the river to beat my overpair.

Now it's time to cheer for Sweden in the hockey world cup. Go Sweden!

It's time for me to stop saying that PokerEV says I should have won this or that. Instead it's time to face the facts:

Since I've started playing LHE $10/$20 I've only averaged 0.35 BB/100. I'm sure I have plenty of leaks that opponents don't exploit at $5/$10:

I've averaged a healthy 2.44 BB/100 at LHE $5/$10 this year. Strangely enough my stats are looser for $10/$20 than $5/$10. Maybe I was overconfident when I started playing $10/$20 and thus played to many hands What I will do from now on is basically play $5/$10 and only play $10/$20 when the games look really good. I'm also getting a coach in order to improve to a good mid-limit player.

Outside of the poker world there is a good opportunity to go short in the stock market right now. By using technical analysis it is possible to set a tight stop loss for the short scenario so the risk-reward ratio is good. I'm thinking the major indices will lose at least 30% in two years time which means a pretty sharp decline.

Time to take a walk in the sun and then analyze my LHE $10/$20 play this year. I'm also getting Wii Fit in order to get ready for the beach this summer!

Yikes

We are the midst of a recession, housing depression and major price inflation (stag flation) now - business cycles turn around....unless you are thinking one of those things continues just getting worse and worse.....?

Re: Yikes

I will post a blog entry tomorrow about my view of the market. I would just like to say that I'm a technical analysist so I really don't know much more about fundamental analysis than what I read in the papers. Of course the economy will eventually turn around but I think it will be later rather than sooner.

Of course I'm not saying that my view is the absolute truth since we are dealing with probabilities but I think my scenario is the most probable one.

Long time no blog! After taking another break from poker I'm back to playing LHE and.I'm finally winning again. These are my LHE stats so far this year:

There are several reasons why I haven't played more hands. One reason is that a couple of months ago I went on a 450 BB downswing at LHE $10/$20. I've taken several breaks during that time. I also tried to learn PLO for a while. But mainly poker is more fun when you're winning. Also blogging is more fun when you're winning.

Hopefully I won't have to use any more of my savings to pay the rent from now on. But I have to play alot more hands if I plan to use poker winnings as my main income. I need to study harder and think about the game so I improve.

I see that it's raining outside. I still feel great though. For every rain drop on my window I'm going to play one hand of LHE. Now that's alot of hands! I better start now!
