What's Your Edge

I withdrew all of my money and decided to start over with 1k on Stars.  What is really like to do it all over again?

So far i'm at NL50 and almost ready to head for NL100.

The games in the NL50 are really bad.  Tons of people open limping and folding to any kind of pressure on the flop and turn.

My challenge has been going well. I'm almost 10K hands in and over 1/2 way to my goal. This has been great for my confidence and I will be ready to move up feeling very good about my game when I am done with this. I am very tempted to move up to NL50. In fact, I did already cheat a bit by playing NL50, but I did it for the sake of a sweat session today. I ran like a god also, which was nice. Most of my play has been at NL20, at which I am running just over 15bb/100. Anyway, here's the graph so far:

You're killing it dude, nice work. Seems like a really good confidence booster. :)

Nice chart! I must make the most of the 100NL games whilst you're still at these lower levels...

Today in the morning I've played a short session and I've accomplished my monthly goal: reached $500 playing NL20 and now I'm planning to move to NL50 ASAP.

As you can see my stats are related to my heavy multitabling: I have an MT of 5.45 but in the last 6k hands is around 7.

I'm satisfied with my goal and I think I'll play at this limit another couple of days and I'll try to move to NL50 during the weekend: I know that I should not multitabling so much at the beginnnig because I need to "breath in" a little bit just to understand how different is the game.

One thing that I should be take incount is that when I play in this way (8-12 tables) I try to minimize the variance avoiding marginal spots: I still don't know how to manage the thing at NL50 the I guess will be quite similar to the actual level.

Take care!

I officially reached my BR requirements for NL100 (25 buyins), so I have officially began phasing in NL100 games into my game. I took a quick two-table shot mixed in with two tables of NL50 and I quickly stacked someone. I quit soon after though cause I have some football activities momentarily, however it felt great seeing my account jump up like $84 instantaneously.

I was also extremely happy that I really felt no reservations about the amount of $ on the table. I sorta felt that during the jump to NL50, but not here. I think it could psychologically have to do with the table mod I have on my friends computer, as the chips look identical to NL50 in terms of graphics. Ha, maybe once I start using my laptop without the mods I'll start playing like a weak-tight nit.

I'm going to phase in the tables until I have about 30 BI I think, maybe a little less. Basically, whenver I feel losing will have little chance of knocking me back down, I'm going move up for good. Exciting!

Hey everyone, I'm going to give this blog a try.  Probably nothing too exciting going to happen in here, but who knows.  Probably some updates on poker, microcap stocks and just general ramblings from a Western Canadian.

Currently I'm playing NL50 at Fulltilt and trying to clear a bonus there and become a better player.  So far it's been break even over 10K hands of 6max and about 1.5 buyins at NL50 Fullring.  Had a bad day today -3.5 buyins. KK<AA (should have been a fold preflop as this guy was like 2% PFR, of course I didn't look until after).  Flopped the nut straight and lost to runner runner flush and flopped a straight with flush redraw and lost to a bigger flush on the river.  Decided to quit for the day shortly after that.

I'm in the process of attaining a coach to work on my game.  I think it will give me a new perspective on my game and maybe turn the doomswitch off.

..makes sense for me because i set myself a target and this blog should help me to achieve it. Its here to remind me of every little milestone and to not forgert a single one which means that i have to work hard on my discipline. To make a long story short - those are my goals which i want to reach until oktober 2008:

  • to step up from nl50 to nl100 with 35 buy ins
  • to step up from nl100 to nl200 with 35 buy ins
  • a winrate of at least 4ptbb at nl200 after 50k hands
  • to not play more than 2 hours/day
  • to avoid any tilt reactions to bad beats
  • to review my played hands in my pt database and reading/answering to hand histories in the cr forum for half an hour/day
  • to update this blog at least twice a week
  • to pass my last exam in July 2008
  • to finish my diploma thesis until September 2008
  • to sharpen up my spanish language skills by studying at least half an hour every day

Now i want to introduce myself - i am a 25 years business administration student from Vienna, Austria. And just to remind you guys from the US, in Austria we neiter have kangoroos nor koalas, but Hermann Meier, good old Arny and unfortunately Josef Fritzl (if you haven t read or seen anything about this horrible case in the news so far, google it..)

Additonally the founder of Red Bull is austrian and all the cans you guys drink over there are still produced and filled in our little country. But enough of geography - lets talk about poker.

I discovered my passion for poker in January 2007 when i got 10 dollar for free to play at party poker. It didn t take a weak until i bought my first poker book: Winning small stakes poker. Its enough to say that i wasn t aware of the fact that this book was for holdem limit players - i probably didn t even know the difference between no limit and limit at that point in time. Nevertheless i did my job grinding up the micro limits quite well and could cash out 150 dollar while still leaving 100 dollar in my account which i lost trying to be a tricky nl10 dude. Next i bought the Brunson bible and some Harrington books which improved my game so much that i could afford becoming a cardrunners member by turning my 50 dollar deposit into a nice NL25 bankroll. The switch from NL25 to NL50 was quite easy but my shots at NL100 have always been very ugly. So i ended up grinding NL50 for a quite long time and was massively overroled. I gave myself another shot at NL100 and it worked out quite well. But then i had to cash out my whole bankroll (the exchange rate was extremely bad) because there were some bills which had to be paid and fortunately i did a nice 3 month trip to Florida and Latin America with my girlfriend. Unfortunately i lost the majority of my PT database and so these are my last stats before the cashout:

" alt="http://img229.imageshack.us/my.php?image=oldstatshh2.jpg" target="_blank"> " title="http://img229.imageshack.us/my.php?image=oldstatshh2.jpg" target="_blank"> ">http://img229.imageshack.us/my.php?image=oldstatsh...

Back in Austria i deposited 500 dollar and started grinding NL25 6 max again. I moved up to NL50 with only 15 buy ins because i thought i had quite an edge against the other players. I have been grinding this limit now for about 3 weeks and i am pretty happy with the result:

" alt="http://img84.imageshack.us/my.php?image=currentstatsig2.jpg" target="_blank"> " title="http://img84.imageshack.us/my.php?image=currentstatsig2.jpg" target="_blank"> ">http://img84.imageshack.us/my.php?image=currentsta...

" alt="http://img84.imageshack.us/my.php?image=graphpk4.jpg" target="_blank"> " title="http://img84.imageshack.us/my.php?image=graphpk4.jpg" target="_blank"> ">http://img84.imageshack.us/my.php?image=graphpk4.j...

Next step is win another 7 buy ins at NL50 so that i have the 35 buy ins for feeling comfortable at NL100.

I keep you guys posted.

GL at the tables,

Lukas

January 14, 2008

Well I just purchased a 21.6" LG LCD widescreen monitor and a new computer chair, I am really happy with the purchases and I feel that they will greatly improve my comfort level while playing poker.

As well I just purchased PokerTracker and poker ace HUD for my desktop computer, I have been using my laptop mainly for poker and I had PokerOffice on it but I feel that the use of PokerTracker instead will benefit me due to it being the standard software in use by CardRunners.

I had to work this weekend and only put in 3k hands, I ended up down 4 buyins, two of which came at NL50 HU against a very aggressive oppenent who flopped two straights within 150 hands and stacked me both times.

I should be getting last month's rakeback into my account soon, so I am going to play another 5k hands of NL50 and then take a shot at NL100. I plan to play 2 tables of 6 max NL100, and 2 tables of 6 max NL50 while I adjust to the change.
