CARDRUNNERS
What's Your Edge
I played quite a bit today. I played a few hours of Stars 10/20 while playing the stars 100r and UB 100 mtt. The stars 100r didnt' go so well. Same goes for 10/20. I won $25 for the day on stars. I did manage to pull 3rd in the UB 100. As I said, my mtt game is really coming around. I think I'm playing great in the mtts I'm playing. I played a little UB cash after the mtt and picked up 1 buyin. I wasn't playing too well and had some other stuff to do so I quit.
I went and worked out for awhile. I'm in terrible shape now, but I'll come around. On the way home I got some qdoba. I sat and watched some Anchorman on HBO and then started watching the game. I stopped and played poker for about an hour or so on PP and had solid session. I turned the game back on but I turned it off when Miami was down over 10 in the 4th quarter. I figured they were done and I realized I forgot to make a video for cardrunners. Obviously, I am very pissed about that retarded decision. I saw the final score and I'm sure it was a great game. At least I made what I think is a pretty decent video. I'm working hard on talking more. I also played solid. I hope you guys like it. Tomorrow its back to the grind at work.
The trip home from the concert sucked. I missed the 1030 train by 30 seconds and had to wait an hour. I then slept the whole way home and ended up missing my stop. Luckily, my stop is 2nd from last. I was able to get a cap at the last stop and get back to my car. The cab ride cost $22 for a 10 min ride. I assume it was becuase it was after 1 on a tuesday. Regardless, I wasn't too happy aobut that.
I decided to hire a personal trainer. I've never seriously worked out and I wanted to have some extra motivation. I had my first sessio ntoday and I'm really glad I went ahead and hired him. I think it will really help me stay motivated. For those of you who don't know me, I'm very skinny (6'2, 160lbs). I'm pretty dedicated to putting on some weight and I think I'll be able to do it. On top of lifting, Im going on a pretty crazy diet where I just eat allllllll the time. It should be interesting. I'm pretty sore right now though.
Poker has been giong VERY well the last week or so. I've mostly been playing 10/20 and I'm running/playing great. I honestyl think part of the reason is I've barely had time to play so when I have played I've made sure to play my A game. I just hope it keeps up.
So on sunday I had a great day early in the day in cash at 10/20 and then didn't do so well in mtts. I was still very pleased with my day. Before I went to bed, I decided to play some PP 5/10nl. I got KILLED. This is the 2nd time in 3 sessions I've gotten rocked at PP 5/10. Overall, I'm on a 9 buyin downswing there. I am pretty furious about that. I just don't get PP sometimes. I go on huge rushes, but in the end I give most of it back. I think I am playing fine, so I think it's just he variance of playing with bad players. After all, I've been playing well enogh to beat 10/20 lately (im on a huge upswing there). I think sometime soon I'm really going to break through on PP and go on a huge rush. I hope that comes sooner rather than later.
I was so furious about dropping 5 5/10 buyins on Sunday that I haven't played poker since then. It wasn't the money that upset me, its the fact that I am not winning a lot on PP and I am more just treading water. I feel like I should be really really killing that game as I think it is one of the softest out there. I just haven't felt like playing poker at all since then. I am going to be in Michigan all next week and I will have dial up internet, but I don't think I will play at all that week either. It is possible I will go 2 weeks without playing. The funny thing is overall I am on one of the best upswings of my life. There is no point in forcing any sessions though.
I had a really good workout today. I am already sore as fuck. I can only assume I will be a dead man walking in the next day or two. My left arm is pathetically weak and I really need to work on that. I'm really glad to finally be challenging myself with working out though. It's something I wish I had done a long time ago. As one of my friends who works out a lot told me, "wiggins, no pain, no game, son."
Today is a new day. I've said this before, but I mean it now, it's time that I stop messing around and actually start playing my best game everytime I play.
I spent the earyl part of the day playing 25nl and trying to make videos. I made two of them and after each taking an hour to save I realized the files were corrupted. That tilted me like a monkey. I played a bit later and dropped a buyin really fast. I realized I was tilted like a monkey and quit. I came back about an hour later and dropped another 1k. I wasn't getting into big pots, jus tlosing every possible medium pot.
I took a shower and didn't play for awhile adn came back with the idea of playing Party. Honestly, my last month on stars and ftp have not been that great. Party and UB are where I have really been winning a lot lately. Therefore, that is where I am going to focus on playing from here on out. I am really liking party more and more. With the monster tables there are a lot more games to choose from, which really helps w/ avoiding the v good regulars. Also, since I started using scripts, it's my favorite software on the net. It's fast but not too fast and the scripts make up for the shortcomings that party has (gives me a bet 2/3 pot button and autoreload). Furthermore, I get rakeback there. Not getting rakeback on stars is kidn of a kick in the balls. Yes, the VIP thing is nice ,but they don't give enough point sfor cash games adn they give too much for sngs. Thats bullshit IMO. Anyway, I like stars a lot, but its awfully slow and I just am not running wlel there. I won ok amount last month, but have given most of it back recently.
So, after losing 3k on stars today I came back w/ +7500 on party. I made a little bit of a gain on my pace, which is good.

This hand helped.
Taylor, EmpireMaker2, and I are all playing golf tomorrow. That should be fun. I don't know how much playing I'll get in tough. I'm gonna try to get in a short session when I wake up.

I'm pretty tired right now so I am done for the night.

His reraise preflop was small and seemed weak. He made a pretty big bet on the flop but I was pretty sure he was weak still. I took a chance and was right, but he made a huge call. It didn't help that I only had 1800 behind me to start the hand.

This seemed like a great place to bluff the diamond flush. He told me he laid down JJJ and I believe him. He was pretty upset when I showed. I hadn't made a bluff like this in awhile so I think he made a very good laydown.
These are plays I used to make on UB all the time. I think I kind of lost my edge when I left UB. I really tightened up and stopped playing aggressive. I finally realized that I wasn't playing up to my potential.

I woke up today and actually felt like playing some poker. The end of the month is coming up so I need to make sure that I stick with it so that I can make sure I accomplish this goal. I basically had it in the bag if I had kept playing a lot, but I've barely been playing at all lately. Now that I'm totally settled in at school and my partying should start to decrease a bit I can get back into my normal routine.
I started off really bad today. I don't think I was playing all that great and I was running pretty bad. I was probably stuck almost 10k in the first 30 minutes. I was only planning on playing for an hour and a half so I almost just quit then. I didn't want to get stuck really bad when I knew I wouldn't want to sit here all day and grind out of it. Anyway, I decided to just keep plugging and hope to catch some cards. Luckily, I was able to do just that. I started running pretty hot and ended up winning 5k on the session.
I should note that I ended up playing more yesterday and lost about 2k back. It was all at 5/10nl. I was making a video for cardrunners and just ran awful. It's a two part series and I think it's pretty good. The first part is already posted.
Green tea does not quench thirst at all. I will have to avoid it on hungover mornings.

Here I just tried to control the pot size and make my hand deceptive. I felt like there was a good chance he'd have me in really bad shape if we played a big pot.

This hand was pretty bad.

These opponents are both crazy players. This was an easy call. I'm glad it held up.

I decided to slowplay this one and I'm sure glad I did. He tried to make a thin value bet on the river that basically got him comitted to the pot. I don't think he should bet that river.

I just can't believe that I was up 75k on the 22nd and I ended the month at 55k. I probably haven't been playing my best lately. It's tough to say though because I'm frustrated and probably not looking at things objectively.
I have a lot of time off this weekend for the long weekend so maybe I'll play some, but I don't know. I definitely won't be playing 10/20nl. I need to start to like playing again and playing won't accomplish that. I did buy an xbox 360 today, so I'll probalby just play a lot of that this weekend.

Someone asked me the other day to list some of my favorite pearl jam songs. I'll list a few now:
Their entire new album (self titled) is excellent. It's the best album I've heard in a few years from anyone.
Some others:
Present Tense
Black
Nothingman
Better Man
Dissident
Low Light
All Those Yesterdays
Smile
Immortality
Elderly woman Behind a Counter
Honestly, I like the majority of their songs, but those are a few that stand out.
Better luck at the tables than me.

Nice to win an 8k pot w/ your opponent getting it in dead.
Also, the FTP deepstacked tables are awesome. I've been playing a ton of 4/8nl w/ $1600 buyin.
Oh yea, I forgot about this one. Another massive pot w/ the guy getting it in dead. This one was 625bbs lol.

I've basically been killing the last few days. I've got my bankroll sitting around 45k. I even managed to take about a 6k hit towards the end of the day at ftp. I've been playing a really wide array of games. Here's a list of what I've played in the last few days...
4/8: HU, 6man
5/10: HU, 6man, PLO
10/20: HU, 6man, PLO
I've basically been bouncing around and finding the best games. It's been working out really well. I think I'll feel completely comfortable about my roll again when I have it at about 60k.
I've learned a ton from this downswing I had. It's so important to have confidence when you are playing. Even if you think you are playing ok, if you don't have confidence, you aren't playing your best. With poker, its essential to make sure you are playing your best as much as possible. During the month or so that I was struggling, I never really felt good about my game. That caused me to play poorly overall and to tilt more. I think the best thing you can do when you are running bad is to take a step back from the game. It wasn't until mentally I thought I wasn't going to play for a long time that my head really got cleared. That combined w/ my friend building my confidence by telling me I could crush the fringe site was really the key. When I got on there and ran well, my confidence came rushing back. In hindsight, I wish I had just stepped away from the game much sooner. I never shoudl have let myself get into the spot where I was on such a huge downswing. I also think that switching sites when you are running bad really helps change your view on the game. I got a fresh mindset when I got off UB.
