What's Your Edge

Hi all,

My New Years resolution is going to be "If I get stacked . . . then I stop playing for the rest of the day"

I think that will solve a lot of probelms . . . notably your skill level is definitelty off having lost a buyin.

So here I get stacked . . . . fish are very annoying  . . . they call light and then suckout on you.

I have % 74 win rate on the turn . . . pisses me of when donks suckout  . . . espcially since he hit his hands

I SHOULD HAVE STACKED HIM.

So I quit for the day . . . made $ 8 for $1.37/hr so thats quite acceptable.

I've only been back on the $10 board the last couple of days but I'm up bout 3 buyins so that's comforting.

Have You made your New Years resolution yet.

Tony

I know, I know - New Year's resolutions are often self-defeating, but I just can't seem to resist.  However, I have realized that I usually forget about my resolution around two weeks afer I have made it because I don't talk about the fact that Ihave made a New Year's resolution.  So - in order to keep my resolution, I'm going to post it here.

(Edit: couldn't find a .jpg of the shot that I really idolize - of course, it's the chin-up scene.)

Goal:

No fate but what we make, right? Well, mine will include 25 chin-ups, in a row, without a break...in addition to an overall well-toned body.  Sigh...I start tomorrow

In the last quarter of 2009 I adopted a new framework to poker. So far, it has been going well. I'm up 30 buy-ins and on target to reach my goals for 10NL.

This success, however moderate, must be a good place to set goals from, so here are mine.

Short term
- Stick with the framework, because it is working
- Get to 30k hands at 10NL and a bankroll of $750. At my current average, I will get there during February

Medium term
- Move to 25NL by the end of February
- Play minimum 40k hands at 25NL and get bankroll up to $1,750 (35 buy-ins at 50NL)
- Move to 50NL. Timing depends on volume and winrate, but I'll aim for end of September.
- If all goes to plan, then I should be about 20-25k hands into 50NL by the end of the year, with a bankroll of about $2.5k to $3k.

Long term
- Move up to 200NL by the end of 2011

Above all, keep perspective. Poker is a hobby and at the moment I'm only beating 10NL and then only for a short time. Even more reason to stick to the framework.

Happy New Year and good luck with your own plans for the year.

Aww the New Year is upon us, and many people choose this time to correct the mistakes they have been making the past many years.  I will partake in said action as well.

1. Become Brian Townsend - What this means is I need to become a better learner/studier instead of just using my mediocre knowledge to get me mediocre results.  I must study, this means running calculations, understanding combinations of hands and which action is the best action, and the trickiest is understanding the whole "tree" of actions that I can take with a hand from beginning to end.

2. Become a solid HU pro - I have been playing more HU, but still not a ton of it.  Knowing HU extremely well is key for a few reasons.  The first is that once you acknowledge that you can beat someone HU, you then can most likely beat them at a 6max or full ring game as well.  This is awesome because making money off of regulars can greatly boost your success.  Another solid reason for knowing HU is for finishing off a tournament.  Getting down to the last two of a tourny where 100k is first and 60k is second, its quite a big deal to know how to get that 40k profit as frequently as possible.  And finally knowing HU well makes you better at 6max and fullring.  After all so many hands only have 2 people that are participating in them anyways.

3.  Become a better worker - I am attempting to create for myself other jobs outside of poker, yet all I do is play video games and watch TV, and I never get any true work done.  I am going to work a real job.  I'm not going to ask alot of hours from myself, but I am going to actually schedule out the hours and be very strict on "sick" days and time off.  I want to incorporate my PA into poker, possibly for help table selecting or researching players.  This will help me stay focused because my PA will have to be at work, therefore I will have to be ready to work when she is, etc.

 4. Get fit and thin and tan for the wedding - I am getting married in April and while I don't have a weight goal set, I want to be thin, with a lil muscle.  I want to be eating healthy, with white teeth, tan skin, etc, etc.   I am willing to work hard to hit this goal and am certain it will improve the quality of my life, and it will help me work towards my other goals.

These are my realistic goals that I look to achieve this year.  Financially I want to crack half a mil, but there is no telling where that will end up.  The diet starts today, I'm serious :P

the white teeth and tan skin comment might have been the funniest thing I've read in a long long time.

haha, Im doin the same. The diet was the worst part at first, not eating everything I wanted (Santanas California burritos - San Diego native too). And of course the cold brew on the weekends. Gets easier after two weeks of strict diet. GL and Congrats with the wedding!!
