What's Your Edge
fun
i mean seriously cmon
three pair no good
I didn't play that well, but I did not stack him a single time, and I felt I had a good edge on this guy if I was playing my A-game but of course this is hard after losing every. single. pot. Every time we got all-in he drew out or held. Frustrated.
Won a little bit in hold'em but I'm kinda pissed and done for the day.
Poker as a GF
September 19th, 2007
I recently celebrated my 20th birthday. That marked the end of the 4th summer I made my income by playing cards. I have been in the game for over 3 1/2 years, and I am still a year away from being able to legally swig booze.
But if there is anything I have learned from cards, is that poker is a royal mind fuck flushing time down the toilet. Days where you lose hundreds of dollars with the intention of just flipping on the switch again tomorrow is like patiently stabbing yourself in the eyes with shards of glass that broke from the window that got a rock thrown through it.
Lessons like learning where you can play Q9s in position, that transform into whether playing 7QT9 single suited out of the blinds are not relevant to winning on a consistent basis as much as figuring out how to deal with swings, and not letting the game consume too much of your supposedly socially intelligent life.
That is what real winners can do. Yea, being a degenerate can have its own sex appeal, but what is the use of that when you spend 14 hours a day in front of your computer trying to figure out how the 12th version of Kaiser Soze(KeyserSoze, KyzerSauze…etc, its all really ridiculous) has beat you with TT37 single suited after limping UTG and check calling every single street.
It’s tiring to lose, so when you are losing about 45% of ’sessions’(i have it in quotes because it looks more pro. wait no, its cause pokertracker tracks ’sessions’ based on single tables, while i am playing multiple tables) life doesn’t look as fun as it did 1200 dollars ago.
So yea, these things all suck. But what do you do to work against things like these?
What I try to do(i.e. what you should not do):
- Hold your breath until the tide turns into your favor
- Become a Zen Master who always ‘wins’
- spend 14 hours a day in front of my computer trying to figure out how the 12th version of Kaiser Soze(KeyserSoze, KyzerSauze…etc, its all really ridiculous) has beat me with TT37 single suited after limping UTG and check calling every single street.
- Take lots of time off
-Bitch about why you have to take time off for ‘mental difficulties’
I mean really, it feels like whenever I quit for a week, month, or a couple days, I am going on the DL for cards, only it is like when you are trying to figure out what 3rd RB to start in a fantasy league when you have 4 guys who are ‘out indefinetely’
But anyways, this is about where I’m at.
GG for now, Alex
I had a good coaching sesh yesterday, Of coures alot of poker theory, thoughts and discussion went on. I will post one hand where I lost KK, We discussed if I should of be able to get away from this hand before it was to late. I think I may take a break from moving up. It seems I just get coolered every single sesh. I didnt realize how well I was doing at 25NL, as we looked at some of my position stats I have won money in every single freaking position, I didnt notice it before. Shit I must be doing something right, if only it was for 50NL. The Kiwi Kid is coming over today, gonna make a poker movie, study, discuss, then go a our NL group meeting. Cya

The way you played it there is no way you can get away from that hand, just a standard cooler.

what hand do you put this guy on?
you raise and get called from early position. its a 9 handed game. is the guy on your left a complete donk? what hand can he fade a cr with on the flop and then push the turn?
its not 54 of diamonds. people dont call pre flop raises with those hands in early position.......typically.......unless he is a complete donk.
typically, you get called with pocket pairs or nut suited hands. this is the typical scenario. there was no flush draw on the flop so what does that leave us?
he could have 99+ but people usually go into defensive mode with hands like that. they typically dont lose their minds and push the turn with those hands.......espeacially when you are probably a tight player and you are showing this kind of strength.
i get away from hands like this all the time. sometimes you will be throwing away the best hand but its necessary to being a winning player.
anyone who says its impossible to get away from this hand is also the kind of person who blogs about how bad they are running due to coolers and variance. its absolute bullshit. i just cant see why players have to blindly stack off with over pairs and then chalk it off to a cooler.
if the villan is outplaying you here, then he is playing too aggressive for a 9 handed game and will go broke playing like that.
you should also bet the flop instead of cr. all your doing in bloating the pot which comitts you. as played, you cant get away from the hand but you should have played it more straight forward which could have given you the option of escape.

I do realize now that if played differently there was a chance to get away, but the way I did, no way...Thanks
for some reason this needed to happen right when i was feeling good and was up to a decent bankroll. i ran 16 buyins below expectation in a single session. I am not quite sure that was even possible. up until this point in my poker career this is the absoloute worst i have ever ran in a single day/session nothing else is really close. i could post all in after all in where i get it in great and lose or get it in drawing amazing and dont get there but whatever its pointless. takeing next day or two off of poker. really frusturated dropped a lot. insanely frusturating to run that bad in a single session. woul of been nice to have a stop loss. granted i made a few retarded plays but overall i played winning poker and just ran worse than i ever have before in my entire life. so tough of a night almost didnt play a session too. i hate that, what ifs are retarded. oh well coupld days off than back to grinding to make this a profitable month still albeit not a very large profit anymore....

Tomorrow I leave for Commerce for 5 days. I am excited to finally get in all these good games I keep hearing about. It should be pretty interesting. The house idea fell through as we couldn't find a third person, but thats just as well, we will be closer to the games, and it will be a little cheaper I think. Besides the Commerce has free food anyways.
I aim to beat my previous record of +26k in 10 days. Here we go.
