I'm in the money in event #28. It's a 3k NLHE. It's also televised, so it would be great if I can make the final table. There are 81 people left. Right now the blinds are at 1000-2000 w/ 300 ante and I have 29k. I'm pretty short, but if I double up, I'll be in fine shape. The structure for today is pretty awful, so I just basically gotta cross my fingers that I catch some cards. I'm really hoping I run great today and make the final table.

Hellmuth is at my table and he is a riot to play with. I gotta say that he is probably my favorite poker player to play with. He just says and does hilarious things. The only problem is that he has a pretty huge stack and he is playing great poker coming off his latest bracelet win the other day. Again, I'm just hoping I can catch cards and get lucky today.

Zimba reporting from the Rio...

Taylor arrives fresh from fun times at the Pocketfives.com party at NYNY and the kicking Ultimate Bet Party at Voodoo Lounge at the top of the Rio last night.

The stars were out in force...Phil Hellmuth was beaming and holding court after his 10th wsop win. Annie Duke, Miami John Cernuto, Johan Storakers, Juha Helpi, Devilfish Ulliot with gorgeous escort, mekhi pfifer, john quiet lion brody, and many many others. In addition It was nice to meet LatestLines, Denny Lemieux, Steamboat, gandi9, Taylor and other CR.

Gaucho2121, our Las Vegas promotion winner flew in late, last night and at the last second decided to enter the main event. He is seated at table 28.

Taylor is at table 169 and both are feeling confident of their chances. It was a mob scene as they are close to maxing out the 4 seperate Day 1's. I am next door at the Gaming life expo where all the major poker sites and poker companies have major booths set up. Chris Bigler is seated at the next table doing promo for Pokerstars. Its quite an interesting experience seeing all the people I've watched over the last several years on TV in person.

I will be checking in after each break with updates on Taylor's progress and any other CR members who I run into.

August 07, 2006

I'll be headed back to Chicago tomorrow night.

The summer here was very fun but I am ready to go. I only played live twice (except messing around at some low limit games, story coming soon), but I am glad I came to Vegas. I met a lot of great guys out here, many of which I think will come on to CardRunners and post on the boards or maybe make a few videos.

The other night Beaumont, Mork, Nick and I went to The Aladdin to play some 1-2nl. First, Nick and I played 3-6 limit where I proceded to win 140 dollars in a 20 min. session. I won approx a $300 pot when I made the nuts on the turn in a 5 way capped pot preflop. It was so sick, the drunk lady next to me kept raising me the whole way, including the river (I had J8s on a 9T47Q board). On the river I thought there was a slight chance she had JK because i bet, she raised, i reraised, and then she reraised again. I can't believe she didn't have a straight to do this on this board, but oh well.

I took my profit to the 1-2nl game and sat with the guys. The four of us at the table were getting pretty drunk and having a blast. I proceded to tilt the table by showing 2-3 bluffs very early on. This British lady took offense to me bluffing the table (she literally was cussing me out, even though she wasn't involved in most of the hands). Eventually a hand came up where I flopped 2pair, bet, was called by her, then the turn brought a possible flush (i didnt put her on it because she was a pretty straightforward player and didnt seem like the "chasing" type) so I just shoved in for 90 more into a 70ish pot with my 2pair. She folds right away and says, nice flush, and says she folded a straight. I couldnt really believe her at the time, but based on her reaction when I showed 2pair (i was showing because i thought it was the best hand and i wanted a little bit of table respect) she just totally went off on me. It was pretty hilarious.

Then, the best hand of the night comes up. 7 limpers at the table, including me UTG with T4cc. Crazy British Lady is in the BB and raises it to $37. 37!!! So naturally I put her on AK and decide to call and try to get it all in if there is a flop without an ace or king. I have like 300 behind and she has maybe another 75. Flop comes down Qc6c3c, so i basically flop the nuts. She moves all in and i INSTA call and flip up my hand - she appears so confident because i think she cant even believe i have made the flush, well she has the AcAs so she still has outs, but of course she misses.

This lady literally begins to berate me like I've never seen before. She is cussing, yelling, saying things that I can't even understand because she had this thick, almost ghetto, british accent. She calls her husband, who I will call Rounder, over to tell him about the beat. He goes, YOU CALLED 35 preflop with that you FISHSTICK!! I said, yea, I had a feeling about it actually. He goes, IM SITTING down. So he goes to grab his enormous stack of 800 dollars (800 OMG!!!) from the other table and literally shoves it all on the table at once angrily. He is told that you can only sit at the table with 200, so he clears the rest of it of. Immediately he throws on his shades and Ipod (why anyone would bring an ipod to a friendly game is beyond me, and don't even get me started on the shades) which proves that he is a playa.

This guy procedes to get busted time after time. He raises pre, total rock calls, flop comes A high, guy checks to the rock who bets the pot, Rounder insta raises all in with AQ and gets called by AK. Later I raise to 20 UTG with 88, rounder goes in for 70 more after like 3 people call before that. I beat him into the pot and he makes a straight but I make a flush. The funny thing is he wouldnt flip his hand over pre (i wanted to, knowing I was ahead), but at the river he triumphantly announces "Straight to the king!!," and I go, "flush to the eight!"

This guy lost 4 stacks of 200 in about 1 hour, and he and his wife sulked back to their room without saying a word. I've never felt so good about people losing $1000; these people were absolutely miserable people. The funny thing is the guy thought he was so good at poker and that I was the biggest fish alive. He said he played in the main event as if that validated him being a good player. Interestingly enough, besides the T4cc hand, I didn't really play that bad. I got stacked once I think when I was bluffing, but I ended out turning a profit of about $150 on the session. Not bad for tipping 3 dollars every pot I won, drinking 6-7 vodka tonics, and playing just about every hand.

Poker is fun sometimes.

Side note: I'm playing on party a bit now, and it is going very well. I will post my stats once they are significant - I expect to be making 6 ptbb/100.

July 09, 2007
I'm just waking up now after a long day 1. We played until 4 AM, eliminated 55-60% of the starters from my day, and I have exactly 60,000 in chips. I'm guessing average is roughly 50-52k. The blinds will start at 500-1000 i believe, with i'm assuming 100 for the ante.

The structure is very good for this event. I honestly had a really hard time getting anything going for 90% of day 1. I stayed in the 15-25k range for the first 4-5 hours, before catching a rush right before dinner and getting to 45k. Soon after dinner I was able to get my stack up to 60k, but then I had the level from hell in the second to last level of the day.

I basically only won one hand for an entire level, which is crazy considering i was one of the bigger stacks at the table. Every time I raised someone would either reraise, or call, and then I woudl flop nothing. I was also really card dead too so I had to pass like 3 times on the cut off and button in unraised pots due to having 38o and things like that.

I got dwindled down to 31k with the blinds moving up to 400-800 with a 100 ante when my table got cut. I got sooo lucky with my new table draw. I proceeded to get moved to a table with one internet kid and 8 guys who were over the age of 35 or so, some being old timers. I had a very passive table with some inexperienced players which allowed me to chip up from 31k to 60k without a showdown.

I am now in very solid shape going into day 2. It's a minefield out there, but someone has to win it, might as well be me. The next day for me starts wednesday.
