I had a $1750 downswing today. Fifa definitely has some sick swings in it. I stomped Taylor yesterday for $1250. We were playing $250 a game and the last game was for $500. I lost 2 of the first 3 and then won a bunch in a row. Of the games I won at the end, I outscored him 20-3. Today was the opposite. Today we played a few $500 games and then $300 with every extra goal being $100. So if you won you got at least $400. I'm down $500 total at the moment. I think I'm going to go play him some more right now.

I grinded it out all day and I had about 15k with 20 minutes left. It wasn't a big stack at all, but I was feeling fine going into Day 2 with 15k. The blinds would start at 250/500 so I would still have plenty of play. Then this hand came up. It went raise, reraise (Jeff was very active at the table) so I was going to go with it. It never comes...

Congrats to everyone that made it through Day 1. Joe has a really nice stack.

I also got interviewed by Pokernews earlier in the day. The funny thing is that I talk about how much I hate playing all day and then getting knocked out at the end of the day. I was honestly the most upset I've been in recent memory. I don't know why it makes me so mad to bust out after a day of play, but it does. I wanted to punch a hole in the wall.

July 11, 2006

Hi,

It's 10am and I have to shower and get going (shopping) for the day, but I'll give a quick update.

Saturday Melissa arrived around 1pm. We went out to a nice lunch in SoHo where the third place world cup game was being played on tv. The place was some sort of european cafe so it was very lively. Lunch was great, then we went shopping nearby. I bought 2 bracelets that I really like from Movado, and a pair of jeans and four shirts from AG (btw - AG=amazing). Melissa got a few shirts there as well.

We had dinner reservations at Tao at 11pm. So after meeting Ezra for a drink, we headed uptown. Tao is a trendy Asian fusion place that becomes very lively at night. We ordered martinis and got sushi, seabass, crab, etc. This meal was amazing and we were stuffed afterwords. We then met up with Ezra, David, Jay, and Chuck on the lower East side. We had a few drinks and came home around 3, very tired.

Sunday we slept in and got brunch at Bubby's. This place is a great brunch spot and was definitely worth the wait outside. We saw LeeLee Sobieski AGAIN there, which was very funny. Brunch was great, and afterwords Melissa and I hungout and did a little bit of sightseeing. For dinner David, Ezra, Melissa and I went to Nobu, which is an unreal sushi place near our hotel. The food there was some of the best I'd ever had, and even though it was very expensive, it was worth going to. I'd definitely go back in the future. Melissa and I had a drink at the hotel, then went to bed in hopes of getting up early the next day.

Monday was basically another shopping day. I got this pretty cool Brazil zip up and then 3-4 shirts from Barneys. We have to go back there today to get some jeans that Melissa needs to get hemmed. We met with Jason outside of Barneys, and took a cab back to our hotel. I must say that Jason is a really nice guy, and we had a great time going out to dinner and playing poker with him.

After Jason went home, we went to Butter for a drink, and then went to an underground poker club (w/Melissa!) to play some 1-2nl. I proceded to lose 1k in like 1 hour, raising just about every hand, and NEVER making a hand. I did pick up queens once, but everyone folded PF (WTF). Melissa was being hit on pretty good by some of the seedy club owners, so I think I'll take that as a compliment (or not???).

Today we are going shopping and then going to see Wicked. I'm excited about seeing the show, as is Melissa. My roommate Tyler gets into the city tonight for training, so we may try to meet up with him later.

I've been really busy and haven't had time to blog at all.

Basically, I'm just going to post my itinerary and talk about poker for a min, then give some more detail later.

I've gone from Granada, Spain, to Venice to Rome to Paris where we are right now. We are leaving on friday to head to Madrid for 2 days then I'm back home in Chicago. The trip has been a lot of fun so far, and I have a ton of pictures.

Poker has been up and down, but today I had a nice +50k day. I was down 25k at one point so it was nice to recoup that loss and then some. I've had a pretty damn good month though, so I'll take it.

This weekend was very long but fun. Saturday was a blur due to being at bars from 11 am till about 6 then going to a party. I lost credit card roulette for the bar tab too which kinda sucked.

Sunday I had some friends over to watch the noon games, then headed out to soldier field to tailgate for 4 hours before the bears game, which sucked after the first half.

Tonight is the first game in my new softball league. It should be fun to get out and get some cuts in.

Sorry for the lack of detail but I've been pretty busy at work.

January 24, 2008

Hey all,

This week has been pretty busy and productive.  Brian came into Chicago on Sunday night.  Much to his dismay, it was a balmy -1 for most of the day.  It's always brutal stepping out of O'hare and realizing just how cold it is, I can't imagine what that is like for someone coming from Santa Barbara.

Sunday was supposed to be a day of catching up on some work and watching football.  Melissa and I went out to brunch at Moonshine, then took a nap.  After she went home, I started to catch up on emails and such.  Well, then Jake, Beaumont, and Kramer came over (the latter two to do laundry so they brought some beers for us all).  Drinking a couple of beers and watching football turned into getting another case and 4 of us playing beer pong in my kitchen for 3 hours.  That turned into a bar, which turned into going to a strip club until 2am on a Sunday night.  I'm not sure how that really happened, but when I woke up, I certainly questioned whatever decision making process we used.

Monday we had some interviews, then I went home to pack for New York.  Brian, Andrew, Jed and I went to dinner at Joe's Stone Crab, which was very good.  We accomplished a lot with this dinner, so I'm happy about that.

I woke up at 530 to get ready for my flight, which left at 8am.  Well, traffic was HORRIBLE in chicago so Brian and I both missed the flight, which I've never done before.  We got the 9am flight to New York, then met up with Ezra.  We had some meetings to attend out here that afternoon, which both went great!  I'm really excited about some of the stuff we have going on at CR, but I can't really openly discuss everything yet :(.  Yea, I know, this blog sucks, etc.

Brian, Ezra, David (Gaucho) and I went to Churrascaria Tribeca for dinner.  I'd been there before and it's pretty much the standard upscale brazillian steakhouse.  Good stuff.  The next morning, Brian, Ezra, and I filmed a video for CR that should be pretty educational and entertaining.  Look for that to go up in the next couple of weeks.

Nothing of note really happened in the afternoon, I napped, Ezra and I went to the gym, then we killed some time around the APT.  David, Emil (whitelime), Ezra and I went to get a massage at Madison Towers Spa.  This place is so awesome, they really just work the hell out of your back, mine popped like crazy and I'm really sore today.  After the massage, Ezra, Emil and I met Jason Strasser for dinner at Aurora.  The food was pretty good, and it was cool to talk to Jason about his trading job.  I'll always wonder how things would be for me right now if I was doing something like that, but for now I am very happy with the way things turned out.  I think the fact that I am a curious person in general will always cause me to wonder "what if," but it's not like i dwell on things like that, mostly i'm just genuinely curious about how things would have went.

I've got some work to take care of this morning and afternoon, and then we're going out to an Indian restaurant tonight and then some lounge.  Should be fun, I always have a great time in New York, I could honestly see myself living here at some point of my life.  First I will need to obtain some money though, because I am undoubtedly the brokest guy in this city.

NYC is the best city on earth. It grows deep into your skin...lots of culture (world, street, urban, all kinds) everywhere. Potent city. You should find a place uptown, lots of good condos being built up there now. "Brokest guy" in this city?! You crazy :)

April 05, 2008

Three of my friends and i took a trip thurs-sun this week to Columbia, SC.  One of our friends moved away to SC a few months ago, so we are here to visit.  The weather sucks here today, but it was nice yesterday so we laid out by the pool for a bit.

We woke up, ate at Waffle House (always been a goal of mine), then drove around the town a little bit.  I got a pretty good amount of work done during the late morning and afternoon, as most of my friends went back to bed or to the pool.  Later I got a workout in, then we went out for dinner at this place called Mellow Mushroom.  After coming back home and drinking a fair bit, we headed out to some random college bars.  The cab ride over was unbelievable, this young cab driver had a laptop mounted in her car with a huge list of music videos.  She let you pick whatever you watned to listen to, and then asked, "do you guys like loud music??"  We were like, sure, and she proceeded to blast music so loud that my body was shaking.  It was cool to watch the music videos on the laptop, tho.

We bounced around to like 4 bars, then felt mildly old being 23-24 in bars with kids that are mostly 19-22, and came home around 130.  If anyone has good suggestions for dinner or bars around here, let me know, we'll be doing more of the same tonight.

COLUMBIA

Im 21 and go to school at USC. For dinner, go to Gervais street, which is the Vista, and try Sakitumi for sushi, or Liberty for regular food. For bars you either have 5 Points which is the younger scene but good bars like Sharkys, Red Hot, or Bays if u dont want all the freshman. Dont go to jungles. The Vista is kind of an older crowd, more expensive, Clubhouse is good. I would say go to 5 points if u want to party more. Have fun in Columbia.

I grew up in Columbia. You should go to Maurice's for BBQ. Goatfeathers was a popular hangout back in the day, dunno if it's still there.

Oh, just noticed you were only there through Sunday. Oh well.

December 22, 2007

I had an insane day 2 days ago.  I started off down 350 instantly, then went up 1k in less than 1 hour.  Then quit.  Then played again for 30 minutes later in the night, won a buyin, and my gf called so I quit again.  About 3 hours later I decided to put in another session, and man was that ever a fucking grind.  You can see the swings, but man I've never had a run of suckouts like that in a long time.  I did recover, after playing almost 6.5k hands and ended with my biggest winning day ever.  Even with this, I was 800 below expectation in all-in pots for the day.  For awhile during the second session I was >1k below expectation in all-in pots.  So sick.

Here's that day's graph:

Here's the graph for the month.  You can see the crazy fucking swing I took down in the beginning.  Pretty sick recovery from that point

ugh

stupid but fun lil session tonight..here is the highlights

someone sitting with 600ish at 1/2 i sit and run it up to 1k fast

i think i go to 2.4k and then bluff off some money, then i think i'm at 1800 and hes at 1200 and i double check raise on a QT54 board with 43 and he folds to my 555 bet on the turn and shows 45 while i show drawing dead ;-)..best hand of the night as i never show my hands but was just a bluff machine for some reason and felt like showing

i then bluff off over 1.6k just being really dumb in 2 spots...not even semi bluffs, just pure pressure to buy some lil pot to feed my stupid ego and then show the bluff...really smart stuff

down to 300 and in 10 minutes i swear im back up over 2.1k...then run to 2.7k and then he wins some draws, has been running well allin pre with aa<jj stufff like that

so he grinds back to even stacks at 1.5k each...raise reraise 4 bet who knows...T67 with 2 hearts and i have middle set, get it in on the turn for a 1400BB pot at 1/2 and i dont pair the board on his flopped nuts

i lost one buyin at a lower limit for me and too much time

lesson learned=find the guy again another day

May 7, 08 11:21:29

I'll never be able to do what you do Lou - 1400 BB pots. I had your table open in the background and every time I checked in there had been a huge swing. It seems that no one is dominant, and that the winner is only decided by when someone decides to leave because you each had huge stacks and swung back and forth.

I second JT's sentiments though, your play reporting is mediocre...more hookers and blow.
