CARDRUNNERS
What's Your Edge
The party games have been absent of the normal ringers. I think a lot of them are in Vegas right now living it up and not playing online. I'll take whatever I can get.
2.5 days left of work. I'm very pumped. I'm really looking forward to getting back to the poker/college lifestyle.
I'm seriously considering doing a Bill Ivey Challenge for my blog for August. For those of you who don't know what that is, Bill blogged about a goal of 100k in 3 months. I want to keep my blog fresh and I'm going to have a lot of free time. I also am playing great poker. I think I can clear a sick number. I'm afriad I'll set the number too high though. Thoughts? Post a number in a reply if youre interested and would like me to do this. I'm thinking somewhere between 70k and 100k. I'll start tomorrow, so put your input in asap.
edit: I'm thinking 85. It was the year I was born and I think its doable. I'm gonna sleep on it though.
I think that there is a lot more dead money in live tournaments. I'm feeling pretty good going into the main event. I play tomorrow.
I will take some pics today and post some here.
I was originally planning on going to Madison this weekend for Mifflin, because that is always a great time. Then it started to sink in how this is my last weekend here and I changed my mind. I'm going to just stick around U of I and enjoy the last few days here as much as possible.
I'm pretty sure I know how I'm going to incorporate poker back into my blog. It probably won't happen until I get to vegas though. I need to clear my head a bit and then I want to rededicate myself to the game. I will post more details in the future. I'm still open to suggestions though.
Alright, I gotta go study for my Natural Disasters test. Today it's on floods, climate changes and Meteorite Impacts....very useful.
Overall, the show sucked. The delivery was horrible and there was an insane amount of unecessary downtime. I still thought it was a pretty fascinating show. The people seem to have no concern about saying things that will have a very real and negative affect on their lives. I think the first contestant probably ruined his marriage. He brought his wife along. I tried to find a picture of her, but couldn't find one. She was from South America and incredibly attractive. He basically admitted to cheating on her when he said he had done things that would make her distrust him. He also said that he didn't think she was his lifelong partner and therefore didn't want to have kids with her. The kicker was that he "lied" about having ever inappropriately touched a client (he's a personal trainer). That meant he got no money and he probably ruined his career as a personal trainer too. Why would anyone go on that show? I don't know. The 2nd contestant had admitted he was adicted to gambling. He didn't get too far and I know they're going to push him on that subject. I'm interested to see what else he admits on the next episode. He seems like a real loser, so it should get interesting.
Somehow I played 3k hands of PLO today. That's the most hands I've played in a session in probably a year. No joke. I was 6-8 tabling most of the time and I played a few HU tables, so it wasn't as long of a session as it might sound. It sure felt like a long session though. The main reason I played so long was I had a few juicy guys HU that I didn't want to quit. They eventually quit me right around the time the Golden State vs New Jersey game ended so it seemed like a great time to call it a day. It was a crazy up and down session so I decided to graph it out.
I was stuck pretty bad at one point and almost called it a session. As you can see, I won all of it back very quickly. It ended up as a good session. I'm really having a solid year so far. Below are my NLHE and PLO numbers for 2008.
The one number I'm really not crazy about in both games is my agression factor. It isn't consistent across the streets and it's too low in general. I really need to make an effort to get that up. I can't really argue with my results so far though. Considering I'm winning almost $1 a hand at 2/4, I'm doing great. Obviously I'm running well, so I don't expect this to continue. I'll enjoy it while it lasts though.
Biggest pot of the night. Maybe not the best played hand because that's a pretty loose call OOP preflop. The game was playing very fast though and we were both very deep. Great flop. I was going to c/r it, but he didn't bet.
Enjoyed this one. Had to double check to make sure I had nuts. I then figured it would be a chop. Nope.
Had a feeling he was bluffing here. Either that or I can't fold a flopped flush...
Such a great feeling when people are raising big into your huge hand.
Had a ton of cards to dodge on this one. Quading up is always nice.
Classic case of playing too many tables. I never should have checked this flop. The turn raise should have set off warning flags in my head. It didn't. I'm still not sure I fold river though.
Just bad luck here.
Haha, oops. Bad reraise preflop. Although, we were 3 betting like every hand bc we were deep and the game was playing fast. I hate stacking off with bottom set in a spot like this. The flush draw gave me enough reason to go with the hand though. Well, I think that's the case. It's spots like this I really don't know the correct play. It's very possible that's still a fold even with the flush draw. Big pot to lose.

Sick swings, but solid results. Try to put in my more hands dude; make '08 a nice big comeback year. You seem to still really know how the midstakes games play and feel. BTW, I've played Ed Looney HU at PLO. he's a pretty good and tough player, htough runs great vs me. I'd probably avoid him because he's a middish-high stakes PLO HU regular.

Why is perky playing 2/4? Learning the game or busto? Maybe he's still bummed that Alec Torelli is driving around w/that M6 he bought w/his money.
I saw 21 last night. It was a mediocre movie and it really wasn't true to the book. It was probably still worth seeing though. There were some great Vegas scenes. Seeing the movie really got me itching to get out to Vegas. The characters in the movie approached Vegas almost exactly like we do. The only difference was they played high stakes BJ, so they got comped. Everything else was the same. Nice hotel rooms, lots of gambling, tables at clubs, strip clubs for the after part... ah, I love Vegas. Unfortunately, I won't be in Vegas for a few months. I'm already getting pumped up though.
I finally got my monitor working. It wasn't cheap though. I went out and bought a new graphics card. I believe it is the Geoforce 8800 or something like that. It was basically the best card they had. It also forced me to get a new power supply for my desktop, which I wasn't too happy about. I would have almost been better off just buying a new computer really. For some reason I can only get my secondary monitor to show up at 1280x800 res when it should be 1680x1050. I'm not too concerned about that right now, because I'm only using it for PT.
I've been 16 tabling which has been interesting. I'm mostly doing it out of curiosity. I want to know if it's possible to win playing so many tables. I've never really played more than 8 or so. Having a massive monitor like tihs makes it a ton easier though. You just need to make your decisions instantly, which isn't incredibly hard at 2/4nl because most things are super standard. IMO, I've ran pretty poorly so far. I put one wicked beat on someone with AKs vs AA allin pre, but other than that I've ran quite awful in allin pots. I personally think I can win at a rate around .5bb/100. I don't know though. Below are my PT stats so far. I included the rake, because that is pretty important part of this scenario. I should note that this is less than 4 hours of play. I believe I'm averaging like 1200 hands/hr. Pretty ridiculous really.

i don't know much about computers but i think you can only get get the max resolution on your second monitor because your computer has an analog and a digital plug for your monitors. the analog one can't run the really high resolutions i think.

Primary monitor is 30" Samsung Syncmaster 305T. The secondary Monitor is a 22" Samsung Synchmaster 226bw

I've got a 32" LCD, but when i hook my computer up the screen only lets me have like 4 tables fully visible, how do you change it so you can see so many tables?

I just went to Best Buy tonight to buy a new setup and I avoided the having the same problems you are having with your resolution, because the geeksquad guys were on the ball. I wanted to run 2 28" monitors and the computer I was looking at had a the same video card in it that you just bought...8800 geforce with two DVI (I believe thats what they are called) outputs. However, that video card needs BOTH DVI outputs for one monitor to run it at max resolution. The fix was that I had to buy a SECOND video card so that I could use two DVI outputs for each monitor so that they could both be run at their "native resolutions". I don't know if your mother board will support the second video card or not, because one of the computers I was looking at didn't. Good Luck.
heart of a champ.

I did meet Brad Booth and talk to him about Poker Water though. So all in all, it was a pretty good day.

This all happened within 10 min.
Already today though I got 2 outted on 3 differn't occassions and then made a good call with 99 on a A66 board and was shown Q10 which hit a runner runner flush.
I shook it off and had high hopes in the $3 rebuy on Pokerstars. I shoved first hand with AA and got 2 callers. J7o flopped the straight. I elected NOT to even rebuy and just call it quits. My luck will turn around soon hopefully.
Now for the bad beat of life.....
My wallet was stolen so GG personal info. Gonna be a real hassle now right before Vegas. See how terrible I run?
