What's Your Edge
testing a long post
Flippa made a hilarious reply and I wanted to post it here, because most people probably don't read the replies.
"If Purple were to post a comment on this topic, it would be about 30 lines long, well written, and completely tie in how cottage cheese is the embodiment of the good things in mankind's existence. Personally, I think cottage cheese is good with cling peaches from a can."
Last Friday we drove up and wen to the Bulls home opener. It was good times. However, the Bulls gave the game away at the end and lost. Oh well. We managed to get pretty drunk, so it was all good. Man, I really love being 21. It was always a bitch to drink at events like sports games. I know don't have to worry about that anymore. I would have liked to stick around and go out to the bars after, but my ride was heading back right after the game. My friend who drove is a manager on the U of I football team so he had to be back for the game. I'll get to party in Chicago soon enough.
I'll keep you guys updated on the road to BUSTO.
I "graduated" on Saturday. I put that in parentheses because I still have one online class that I need to finish. That's not a very big deal though and I'll get it done soon. Anyway, I walked and it was a pretty good experience. I can't believe that college is finally done. It was weird leaving the campus knowing that I would never come back as a student.
Here is a pic with me and my good buddy Manzo.
I've been pretty busy since I got home. I got back to my house Saturday night and went to bed soon after. Sunday I had a long day. We got up and went to church and then drove downtown to meet up with some family friends to have brunch. Interestingly enough, the girl that chose where to eat chose the pub that I went to for New Year's Eve. I got a kick out of that and it brought back some good memories. After that I came home and watched the Bulls look good, the Tigers get crushed and Golden State play tired ball. Monday we headed downtown to look for apartments. We found a great place that is about 2-3 blocks from Wrigley stadium. It's a four bedroom apartment and it's really nice. I'm living with three of my long time friends from high school. It's gonna be a blast living there. Our lease starts July 1, so I'll move in as soon I get home from Vegas. I didn't take any pictures of the inside, but here is the outside of it. We have the main floor and the basement.
I haven't commented on Sopranos/Entourage for awhile. I think this season of Sopranos has been very good. I've liked every episode and I like where it is going. After fairly disappointing 4, 5, 6 seasons I didn't expect much. I'm really glad they are delivering.
As far as Entourage, it's not as good as years past. I even think that since season 2 it has gotten worse each season. It's still a funny show that is worth watching. I just wish they wouldn't try so hard to input a story line and instead would show more of the guys balling and hooking up with hot chicks. That's why everyone likes the show, isn't it?
Strange note: My brother decided as a way to make money he would buy these exotic frogs and sell them. He also decided that my bedroom would be a good place to put the massively large aquarium. I have this huge aquarium with three big ass frogs in it. As I was typing out this blog I looked up only to see one of the frogs eat a cricket. Pretty cool. The only problem was that the crickets in there were making noise the entire last night and they made it hard to sleep. Oh well.
I would take a picture of the tank but my camera is broken at the moment. I dropped it at a bar one of my last nights in champaign. I've dropped it many times before but this time it basically landed on the lens and now it won't work anymore.
Today I played in the $1500 6 man WSOP event. We got 3k to start w/ 25/50 blinds and hour levels. I knew there was never going to be much play, so I was hoping to catch some cards. I didn't.
At first, it went well. There was a old timer two to my left who would call all of my preflop raises and bet out if he had a hand and fold everytime he checked. He allowed me to build to about 4k without ever showing down a hand. That would be the biggest my stack would ever get though.
I lost a coin flip with AK vs QQ that put me down to 1700. Then there was a LAG player who made it 475 and I pushed with AJ. He called with A10. The first card off was a 10, but luckily I spiked a jack on the turn. I got bled down from there and had 2200 utg w/ 100-200 blinds. I picked up AK. I tanked it to help get a call and then I pushed. The button insta called when it got to him and then flipped up A9o. 9 on the flop killed me and I was out. It was pretty frustrating. I realized how lucky I'm going to have to get to do well in one of these events.
Yesterday went completely wrong.
We wanted to go to the cubs/mets game but didn't have any tickets so we decided we would try to scalp some tickets. We didn't have any luck. They were asking $125/ticket across the board and we weren't interested in paying that much. We decided we would have a beer or two and try again after the game started. We ended up paying $40 for standing room only tickets that have a $12 face value. It was better than not getting in though. We ended up standing right by a beer stand, so we got pretty drunk. It was a good time. The cubs won but I didn't really care. I was with both a die hard cubs and a mets fan so either way I could give one of them shit.
One of our roommates who has been subleasing is moving out after this weekend so she decided to have some of her friends over last night. She bought a bunch of liquor and also made some good food. It wasn't exactly what I needed after drinking all day. Basically, the last thing I remember is doing a shot of tequila at like 11pm. The next thing I know I wake up and my pants pockets are empty. No iphone, no camera, no wallet. Shit, not good. At this point, I'm assuming I got robbed. How else do I lose something from every pocket in my pants. I ended up finding my wallet. THe only reason I have that is because I was so drunk that I never took it out of the shorts I wore to the cubs game. The phone and the camera are still yet to be found. The thing is that the phone is still ringing and going to voicemail. That leads me to believe that it's somewhere in the house. However, I've pretty much looked everywhere and the camera is gone too. Why would both fo them be gone? I was too drunk to even take off my pants before I went to bed so I have a hard time believing that I would put the phone and the camera somewhere that I can't remember at this point. That leads me to believe I was robbed. At the same time, I wasn't gone from my house very long because I'd assume as soon as I got to the bar I realized I didn't have my wallet and I had to come home. Who knows though. Not to mention that my ipod nano was in one of those ipod players and it vibrated off and broke. Expensive night.
Gambler and I decided to make another bet this month. The bet is whoever makes the most money wins and the loser has to buy the winner $500 worth of liquor. I wouldn't mind having my apartment decked out in a bunch of top shelf liquor. So far I'm up like $2500 and I think gambler is up $10K or so. I've barely played and I think I'm playing well so I should be fine. We'll have to see how it goes. I'll keep my blog updated with the progress.
Tonight I'm drinking away my sorrows of breaking/losing $1300 worth of electronics. Wish me luck.
Thanks for all of the ideas I received following my last post. I have decided two things that I would like to do. One, I am going to be a "big brother" once I get back from Vegas in July. I'm not sure if I'll do the actual Big Brothers program yet, because I think it's something like a 10-15 year commitment and I don't know exactly where I'll be living or anything. I do know that Ezra and David do a similar program, and I think that would be a great place to start. If anyone knows any of those types of programs in Chicago, please let me know.
Secondly, I'm going to start reading this month. I ordered 4 books today today, some that came recommended, and others that I saw reviews of on some blogs. A few of them are about internet business, and a few aren't. I took some time to myself yesterday and I just sort of realized that I really do love being involved in an internet business. I love that aspect about CardRunners and poker. I figure, why not learn as much as I can while I'm doing this, and then hopefully apply it to something else in the future. For now, I'm happy with where I am.
Today, as many of you know, the WSOP announced that the final table will be delayed for 3 months. Interesting news, to say the least. Only time will tell whether or not this is a good thing for poker, I for one am anxious to see how it will play out. At this point, I feel there isn't much we can do but embrace the change, so that's what I'm prepared to do. Imagine what people like Doyle Brunson must think when they look at the WSOP today? It's soooo much different than it was back "in their time" that it would almost be unrecognizable to someone who hasn't been in the game for the past 5 years. Again, we'll see how it all shakes out, but I'm optimistic that it will make the final table of the Main Event worth watching, which is something I think would be cool.
There wasn't a whole lot going on today, I got a haircut, a new prescription for glasses, and a new pair of glasses. I haven't worn glasses since freshman year of college, so I picked up a new pair. I made sure to get a really emo/Wicker Park looking pair, because that's what the Taylor who wrote that blog post yesterday would wear.
Right now I am waiting for my GF to get home from a hair appointment so we can go watch "I'm so over you Sarah Marshall." I am excited because I've heard it's a good movie, and because Mila Kunis gets naked.
Have a good one,
tc
ps - I was upset this morning to find out that there wasn't an iron man chip next to my name on FTP. Why is that? I earned either bronze or silver status last month, playing like 20+ days earning 200 FPP's. Maybe red pros can't be iron men, my dreams are crushed.

My sister lives in Chicago and is a child psychologist.........I will see if she knows any programs like that and shoot you a pm if that's cool.

I started doing the big brother big sister program about a month ago and so far I have enjoyed it. A buddy and I are doing the SOAR program where the two of us are matched up with 2 boys and the 4 of us get together for a couple hours every week. It is a good experience for all parties, as it helps me put things into perspective and realize how good my life truly is. I hope you end up doing it, as even the smallest bit of help can have a big impact on the lives of these kids.

You should be gettin that iron chip by the 5th or so...and if u lose it this month, they will leave it with ur name for a few more days past june 1st.
Im not crazy about the november final table. Thats like over 3months later!!!
I think thats WAY toooo long.
Even the superbowl only has a 1 week wait period to "hype up" the event.
I think its one big mistake from that poeple who though if that.
By November , poeple wont care anymore who wins that 9/10 man sit and go.
peace

I think that you should work in the Private Equity feild in a few years after you are done with the day-to-day stuff at CR and have gotten your MBA.
I also think that you should get your MBA sooner than later before you are 27 and dont really want to bother with it anymore.
Feel free to email or PM me if you want to chat about it / opportunities / etc, but after reading your last post I pretty much think that's where you should be professionally.

I think you would be better off doing short executive programmes at Sloan School of Management or Havard. I'd recommend Sloan because of it's strong technology bent.
I think you would get a lot out of doing and MBA and would probably do a lot of things differently at CR but after your own successful business, you will find it a real grind. Especially stuff like Organisational Behaviour.
The short executive course are aimed at people who are already successful and apart from what you would learn, you would make some interesting contacts,
While you are on the reading trail, I would recommend reading some spiritual, as opposed to religious stuff. As someone who had a 30 year corporate career, I have always considered myself to pretty hard nosed. But recently, I realised that there was an aspect missing - doing things that lift the spirit.
An interesting book I read was No Destination by Satish Kumar. Satish was a Jain monk from the age of 9 to 18 but left, after discovering the teachings of Mathama Ghandi. He and a friend walked, with no money, from India, to Moscow, to Paris, to London, to Washington (one or two baot trips in there - obviously) to promote peace. It was an amazing journey and just gives a different perspective on life.
I wish you very well.

You would think winning like this would mean I finally ran above expectation. You would be wrong. Just had a lot of donks that couldn't fold TPWK to my TPTK or set or whatever I had. I put 1 beat on someone and took one bad one. The beat I put on a guy is when I slowplayed KK preflop to a guy with like an $80 stack. Flop had a Q on it, he had QQ, K river. Not really a beat because all the money was going in no matter what the flop was. I was just trying to get him to shove all his A high hands after seeing a low flop.

I think this is by far the most hands Ive ever played in a single day. It was split in two session. I will post all the big pots, whether I won or lost.
The morning session was really aggro on ftp :
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2610560 I tried slowplaying and it backfired
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2610570 It was a raisin war against him and I, he would always rr me on the button and the past 2 time I 4 bet him and he folded. Standard, i guess, Im not a fan of calling with jacks for a lil more than 100bbs but I guess with our history, its doable.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2610574 Good turn and "good river" My hand is so disguised that I cant fold.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2610585 hmmm limped pot.....
And the combacks starts :
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2610592 Awesom flop and If I was the villian, I might have been able to fold with that action.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?2610606
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2610611
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2610616
Here is todays graph, I lost $370 in the morning and I was quickly down 600 since most of my losing hands happened in the first 30 mins, but I felt that I just needed to tighten up and things would come through :
