CARDRUNNERS
What's Your Edge
November 18, 2008
Although I managed to continue to win a little bit over the last couple of days it has come with great risks and I am not happy at all with my concentration level and focus. I get that sometimes that I lose focus when I am on a heater and feel like the level I am playing is not sufficiently incentivizing me to play my best. The result is that I drop a couple of buy-ins at 400NL or 600NL and then move up to 1k or even 2kNL to get it back. At these higher stakes I am super focused and up to now managed to win my losses from the lower stakes back pretty quickly. On the one hand this is good new as I really think I can be a winning 2kNL player once I have the appropriate bankroll, but on the other hand I don’t like the fact that I am losing concentration so quickly at the lower levels. I will therefore challenge myself for the rest of November to only play 400 and 600NL for which I am now adequately bankrolled. I also have to start game selecting better again. I don’t mind playing a tough opponent once in a while as that is the way to get better, but at the end of the day I want to win money and it is never easier than playing some donkey.
Besides poker things are going fine. Work has been a little slow and I don’t get up in the morning feeling excited about having to go to work. This is not a function of the kind of work I am doing, as I like it a lot but has more to do with the fact that a great team is really important for me and currently that is not really the case as there is no real team spirit. Well, some people in the financial industry have the opinion that you will not find this anywhere as most people in finance are selfish and only care about themselves and therefore will not be great team player, but I haven’t bought into that completely although I am getting more convinced day by day.
Last weekend I took it pretty easy and only went out on Saturday to see the new flat a good friend of mine moved in, and it is really nice and in a very cool neighborhood. We then headed to the pub for some dinner and drinks. Afterwards, he and a friend hit a club, but me and my fiancée went back home to relax and watch some TV. I am still stuck on Prison Break but she kind of grew tired of it and rather wants to watch Grey’s Anatomy which is not exactly my favorite. I am really looking forward to the new 24 which I think is coming out in the UK some time this month. Sunday we had to run some errands and in the evening we went to the house of my finacee’s parents for dinner. Her brother and his wife just got back from NY where they went to the BBC election party which apparently was amazing. I am definitely happy that Obama won but with great expectation often also comes great disappointment. I think his first 100 days in office will be really important to show the public how suited he is to tackle the many problems the world is facing.
